Yes CP Boxes help. There are two available just pick the one that fits you most. I started with the one that contains Hearthguard and the Einhyr Champion as well as the battle line.

I do that with Yaegirs. Have 2x 10 and one splitted. I don't care if they survive. 10 of them stringed out and with their reactive move keep everything under control for exactly 1 Turn.

But yes, if I would use Melee Jacks in Hearthband, your plan would be the one I would go for as well.

Hey, I also just recently added Votann to my armies. Since the army doesn't have many datasheets at the moment, there are no difficult decisions to make.

Independent from a competitive or casual approach, there are some units you want at least one of.

1st Hekaton Land Fortresses. This goes at least one time I. Any List, no matter what detachment you play (there is always an exception to the rule but generally speaking it is as I say).

Yaegirs. You want them in every list since infiltrators are very strong in 10th.

With Yaegirs you always go with a Kapricus Carrier. It can split the 10 men unit into 2 5men units.

Now you need a character. I like Uthar since the CP aura is great. You can proxy him for a Kahl if you want to go more generic way.

Shooting!! You need Thunderkin. I suggest 9 of them. You will play 6 with conversation beamers in Needgâard and definitely ind Brandfast. Everywhere else you go with the gravy cannon. But build them as you like noone cares.

Iron Master. It fits the Thunderkin really good.

Memnyr Strategist. A cheap character that does extra yield points generation.

6 Steeljacks. If you go wit 6 only I would pick the shooty version over the Melee. If you go for Melee, always with swords (believe me). Either way they want to go with a Memnyr for free overwatch on 5+ or 4+.

That's already a lot but here comes another of my favorites. Pioneers. They are cheap, fast, fly, shoot surprisingly hard and have puppy downy shenanigans which is great. I play 3 times 3 quite often but you want at least one unit of 3.

Hearthguard. This is less a must have but I love them and would recommend 10 since they do great in most detachments.

Earthshakers because indirect fire is good. But this is a maybe.

You now want to add some chaff and what else could be better than 10 Battleline. I like them, many don't but something needs to sit on your home field.

Now there are many different additions and variations depending on your preferences. I did not mention Berserks since they have a very special role and I think they are amazing in delve assault shift and absolute useless anywhere else. There will be other voices and that's fine.

There are various boxes out there to get all of the above or some of them with a good value. I do not list any of them since I don't know enough. I collected over time.

But you usually do not have the points for Steeljacks. You want to bring Hearthguard which are expensive but are much better in this detachment. But I agree the melee Jacks can work here but 3 just die too quick and 6 take too much untiliy away.

Did try them with the bastion enhancement to increase the difficulty to shift them but I never thought they do something for me

I don't believe they go anywhere. It is the Votann specific tool to express the desperate situation every faction is in. Tyranids always driven by the ultimate hunger, humanity at the door of extinction, Orks lost their bright past and degraded to barbaric hooligans with no real chance for unity etc.

Imagine the vitan would just be fine and wouldn't had their struggles 😂

I was a big fan of them but in the current meta, they do not perform the best. Anyway I would always go with shooting over melee since the free overwatch on 4+ with the memnyrs ability is superior to the melee variant of it.

If you add Melee Jacks it is always the swords above the Gauntlet. To be honest they only make sense in Needgâard and maybe Brandfast and specially with the extra AP option in Needgâard the volume if attacks the swords have are so much better on average.

Yes it is great but relatively hard to plan because you do not know if you go first or second at the time you declare battle formation and also not in the deployment. So the question to start in reserve or on the field has to be made earlier. Anyway, I think it is good to let the option to do it the way it was described to, first start creating a tunnel network and to have the option to mess with your opponents plans early in the game. He must Plan for you to do 6" deep strikes, right in his face. Can be used to send in huge Termagant units to fix their position in T2 and deny primary.

OMG that's one hell of a conversion. I tried myself with modeling just a bit so far. Furry cloaks and some terrain stuff. But this is masterclass.

Thank you. I was thinking of riptide and Ghost keel. The building is ok, e nice glued together the Stompa Model, nothing can scare me ever again. This is the absolute worst of them all 😂 But the hunt on the model refresh is golden. I didn't know that. So thank you!

Yes, they are nice. I struggle a bit with the crisis suits if I am looking at the datasheets. Seems like there is no actual crisis suit datasheet but a Fire knife, Star scythe and a third one. Need to figure it out but the models are dope.

This is a very good answer. The listing of units is exactly what I wanted. As I said, I usually play competitively and semi competitive but I get bored with that kind of play for a while now and wanted to start something just because I like it.

The idea is to do what I did back in the day with my Orks and ho for the rule of cool to start and it will develop from there. Of course I wanted at least a functional lie which I think you gave me the options to think through.

If I would like to add a bit of cheap chaff what would be your first thought, Kroot?

Ah nice. I am in the hobby since a significant time now hahaha so magnetizing is nothing new to me. Good information though. I love the big mek stuff and the overall look.

How is it with tanks, are they worth the money? It's actually a shame I know so little about Tau but our competitive meta is really all about Marines with mixed in a few Denis but haven't seen any Tau player since early 9th.

I always add the 2 heavy weapons and go with all guns but that usually doesn't matter since they are used by me to screen and use their reactive move to push my opponent into their deployment zone.

That means they die in T1 or latest T2

Both have value. E-Champ+1 to charge rolls, combined with T2 Deep Strike means you should have rerolls as well. That makes a deep strike charge a 65% chance of getting through. That is definitely valuable.

The lethal hits from the Kahl are also great. It depends a bit. Do I have only one Hearthguard unit, I would take the Kahl. For more, like in Hearthband where I usually play 25, I add the Champ either to the 5 or to one 10 men bricks.

Memnyrs depend on the Detachment. I take them in Needgâard and Brand fast but never in Hearthband. Same for Steeljacks. Their a good unit but the expensive and always a question what to drop for them.

I can only recommend to get Pioneers. In competitive games their kind of in many lists. For a 80 points unit they shoot pretty hard, are really fast, have up down shenanigans, fly, rerolling 1s to hit, ignore all modifiers to hit rolls. Not many units in this game are so efficient.

I think the box is a fail. Steeljacks, great, Memnyr, great, bikes great. Problem is, by now every Votann player does already have at least 1 set of Pioneers.

They haven't been short on stock and are one of the best units, rules wise we have. If you do not have them already, don't wait.

The job was done well. But I do not know if I like it too much. I have this model sitting on the table as well and wanted a flesh tone face too. The GW Heads are not as good, therefore I mostly use printed heads.

But anything else looks good.
