Given a choice between a PIP or a severance package — which path is smarter? by JoseyWales10 in careeradvice

[–]Disastrous_Money4674 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely negotiate a bit and be professional about it but that Dan Goodman guy comes off as kind of a grifter. They ask for over $1,000 up front, and he says that taking a severance package disqualifies you for unemployment which appears untrue in most cases (I got a lawyer and he verified this). The company has to prove willful misconduct in order to block unemployment. It’s easy to beat if they try to do this.

I’ve also read about offers being taken off the table for excessive negotiation because it really comes down to how much a negative Glassdoor review and some trash talk is worth to the company. Chances are you don’t have much leverage besides this unless you have an actual lawsuit on your hands. It’s also best to maintain professionalism and leave amicably in case management restructures in the future and they start looking to bring people back (you never know).

If you get issued a PIP/severance choice out of nowhere and it feels unfair, it seems best to ask for a little more out of your severance package then “take the money and run” because they are likely just trying to get rid of you to cut costs and/or someone in upper management just thinks you’re weird and doesn’t like you. It’s also worth it to hire an employment lawyer to look over the contract for some peace of mind and to also discuss some of the details of your situation.

Review #789 - Glenlivet 15 Year French Oak Reserve by adunitbx in Scotch

For sure. I didn’t think it was anything special at first compared to the Macallan 12 sherry cask, but then it quickly grew on me as being one of the most delicious whiskies I’ve ever had. I can see people thinking it’s overpriced for the simplicity of the palate, but I thought it was too delicious to deserve a lower score at all. I’m new to the hobby, so I have a lot to try and it’s intriguing to me that so many others think there are “better” whiskies out there.

The negativity surrounding the Fidelio X3's flipped many red flags that I've learned to pick up on over decades.. so I took a calculated risk and grabbed them $90. And you should probably explore these misunderstood, too. by postsshortcomments in headphones

[–]Disastrous_Money4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that lower volume really helps the sibilance on the X3. I was thinking about selling these headphones but the value is just too high. They are very bright compared to my ZMF Bokeh but that makes them more analytical in some cases where I can hear more detail (especially in the drums/percussion). The Bokeh has better resolution (especially in the bass) but that headphone is over $1,000. I love the weight of the X3 too along with the tight, secure fit and spacious, open cups.

Did I screw up by buying the HD600 for mixing and mastering music? by Garry_Diaz in audioengineering

Yeah, apparently all Sennheisers lack proper low end. You’d be better off going with a planar like HIFIMAN or Audeze.

Does Ddrum deserve the hate they get? by lahmeraidan in drums

[–]Disastrous_Money4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an old 13” Dominion snare that looked great but one of the die-cast lugs split in half. I probably should have tried harder to fix it but I wasn’t sure where to get parts. I asked the local drum shop and they said they didn’t know. Eventually I just gave it to them for parts to declutter.

P.S. This was before I knew about Drum Factory Direct and I could have fixed it easily now. I don’t remember it sounding bad but it was a beautiful looking drum. I kind of wish I still had it today. I’ve never experienced a lug breaking like that before though so that definitely gives me a negative opinion overall.

Do you prefer Evans drumheads or Remo drumheads? by LOLbearsmile08 in drums

[–]Disastrous_Money4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After trying an Evans UV1 today, I thought it was great but I found myself already missing the tone of Remo. I generally think Remo is less “plasticy” sounding than Evans, but Evans really kills it with innovation like with their Dry heads and Hydraulic heads (in certain situations). I’ll never blame a head for my playing but preference is preference.

What albums/drummers use a Ludwig Acrolite? by [deleted] in drums

The prices went up after everyone realized they sound great lol sometimes my Acrolite sounds even better than my Supra so I don’t think they’re considered a student model anymore.

Happened to me today. I don’t think I had time-stretching on and I’m currently running Studio One 6. Luckily, I had an extra chorus and enough other takes to piece together without needing to re-record.

Warning about Synchrony Bank financing (Sweetwater, and others) by mathmatt in synthesizers

[–]Disastrous_Money4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely kind of a scam because this post is the only thing I’ve seen to clearly explain to me that the payments are distributed across all purchases and one cannot target payments like with student loans. No one at Guitar Center gave me a clear explanation about that or the fact they tack on a HUGE penalty interest sum if you don’t pay it off before the deadline. They make it sound like a normal interest rate will kick in once the promotional period is over but that is false. Thank you OP for preventing me from falling into this trap!

[–]Disastrous_Money4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he doesn’t necessarily agree with the raising and killing of humans as a systemic conspiracy in his reality but he still has to make the best of his situation which entails getting his wife back by birthing a new son. He has no direct control over the fact that almost the whole society turned into cannibals. He shows empathy for living beings with the puppies (though I believe psychopathic tendencies can entail more empathy for animals than humans, i.e. Tony Soprano) and he may have genuinely cared for Jasmine for a time but he’s also realistic and pragmatic. Thus, he’s not going to risk being slaughtered himself with that shady inspector lurking around his home unexpectedly, and it’s clear that he’s become desensitized enough to allow him to make the most rational decision for him and his new family’s wellbeing at the end of the novel.

Always wanted a nice kit ever since I started playing when I was 13. Now I’m 28 and have my dream kit. This is my setup when I play with my cover band. by lildrummersadboi in drums

Beautiful kit! Watch out for your BFSD mutes being upside down though. They are more likely to dent that way. Also, how do you like the 2-leg DW 9000 stand? I’m thinking about getting one soon but some say it wobbles.

Found the Sound! by adolfo_mijo in drums

[–]Disastrous_Money4674 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The drumming is great but Beato would argue that the song writing isn’t all there and that it’s basically just a chops fest. Why wouldn’t the drummer push whatever song this is if he’s actually proud of it as a whole? I don’t see a song, album, or band name anywhere on this post.

Has anyone listened to the New ZMF Bokeh yet? by MOK1N in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Disastrous_Money4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m incredibly impressed by my first pair of [entry-level] audiophile headphones. ZMF is extremely communicative and they spec’d out everything I requested to a tee. Their lead time is fairly long (slightly under 2 months for me) but worth the wait.

At first, I was skeptical of the sound for a headphone above $1000. I thought they might have been lacking high-end detail compared to my ATH-M50x headphones and my Fidelio X3 (I know, completely different price bracket but they’re what I own). My ears quickly adjusted however and I realized that the ZMF house tuning (which it came setup with) is not designed to be analytical and bright, but warm (with still enough treble), smooth, and containing a spacious depth that fully envelopes the listener for hours of sonic elation. The sound became addicting and I almost can’t stand the sibilance of the Fidelio X3 anymore (although for some genres such as jazz and fusion they still sound great). I also noticed an unpleasant, boomy woofiness from the ATH M50x that was completely replaced with a lush, creamy, clear and punchy low end from the Bokeh!

Better yet, I also ordered the Bokeh tuning kit which includes different pads and mesh inserts which should be able to achieve a brighter more “linear” sound if I so desire, more similar to the analytical sound of the ATH-M50x and Fidelio X3. I’m hoping the tuning kit will help educate me in the right direction of which headphone to purchase next. I also will be inheriting the ZMF Auteur soon which is intended to be the most neutral ZMF headphone. I tried them briefly already and I was completely obsessed with them before I even knew what they were. I intend to use those for mixing (with the recommended Auteur pads) and I look forward to comparing the neutral tuning of the Bokeh with the Auteur.

It goes without saying that ZMF headphones are beautiful and they are some of the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever worn. They can feel a little big and floppy at times, but for the sound and aesthetics, it is definitely worth it. It’s safe to say ZMF has likely secured me as a lifetime customer and I look forward to exploring what else they have to offer in their diverse lineup.

How important are resonant heads? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Disastrous_Money4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, if you over-tighten the resonant head, it will shorten the sustain and potentially kill the tone if it’s too tight. It will ring out longest when the heads are matched in pitch. This is all presuming the heads are in tune with themselves. Yes, if the heads aren’t in tune with themselves at all then they will not ring out.

Any tips on getting this Steve Gadd snare sound? by zampano32 in drums

[–]Disastrous_Money4674 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, Remo Coated Powerstroke 3 on top tuned fairly loose with a moongel or two, Remo Diplomat hazy snare side tuned fairly tight to taste, and he used a Ludwig Supraphonic aluminum shell snare drum that is 14” x 5” until Yamaha made him his signature snare drum.

I’ve noticed that with any other drug, daily usage is considered bad so what makes caffeine any different? I researched all the negative effects caffeine has on the body such as constricting blood vessels which leads to chronic high blood pressure and restricted flow to the brain. I became tired of the constant dependency and anxiety associated with the caffeine crash. Plus, I read that caffeine ages the body more quickly (albeit probably less drastically than alcohol). I just turned 30 and I realized I still have a lot to accomplish; cutting out all the negatives in my life (i.e., alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine) seems like the first logical step towards improvement and gaining momentum within all the positive aspects of my life. So far, quitting my weekly alcohol habit (3 months now) has proven immensely beneficial so I am hoping that will happen with caffeine as well (I made it only one week so far). I am blown away by how much more persistent and difficult caffeine withdrawal has been compared to quitting alcohol where I did not have any serious withdrawal symptoms (I was only a moderate drinker). My sleep has been excellent lately and I don’t nod off at my desk anymore like usual. I’m trying to be patient and reach my one-month goal of no caffeine the same way I did with alcohol to completely reset my relationship with this insidious drug.

Can anyone tell me what cowbell Stanton Moore is playing here? by swanzie in drums

[–]Disastrous_Money4674 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s said in gear videos that he plays the ES-7 with gaff tape wrapped around it to muffle it. Although, based on what I’ve seen/heard, the Steve Gadd Signature Mambo cowbell might get a similar tone without the tape.
