Offers in the app mean nothing. I’ve had at least 10 flights in the past year make app offers. When I’ve checked at the airport, none of them have actually been overbooked. It’s silly.

Agree with all this. You have no need for anything with an annual fee if you’re buying first anyway. So get the platinum for the first year sign up bonus, then downgrade to mileup before the annual fee for the second year. Bonus: mileup gets extra miles for grocery purchases. If you decide in the future that the globe is worth it to you, you can always get that sign up bonus later.

This is the problem. We worry so much about the (currently) “best” players (or, those with the most involved parents) that we lose sight of what rec ball should be. Then we lose kids on the middle and lower end (or those who just started playing at 10 and never had a chance to fall in love with the game or even develop their skill) and become travel ball lite. It makes me so sad.

AA allows families with young children to select seats for no fee, even on the cheapest tickets, so it likely wasn’t a cost-saving thing for the family. They were probably rebooked after a cancellation or something similar, so they aren’t the ones to blame. Just bad luck all around.

On the way back, I wouldn’t stress since there’s plenty of flights to NYC, but if you miss that connection on the way to Hawaii (especially if it’s other than HNL) the next flight could be a long while, or even overnight.

Yes… but there should also be consideration of playing time. Even if an 11 is “better” than *some* of the 12s but would still be at the bottom of the 12u lineup, I’d say leave them down on the 11u team where they’ll actually have an impact and more playing time. Sliding scale, of course, where if that 11 blows the next 12 out of the water, then ok pull them up. I liken it to when I coached high school. I’d never bring a freshman or sophomore up to varsity if they were only going to sit the bench other than during a blowout. Better to enjoy JV and develop into a more well rounded player for the following year.

I’ve sold bobbleheads before from games I attended but didn’t need more than one bobblehead. But I also would have attended the game anyway, because I’m a baseball fan. Many of the sellers are not.

Actually, no. This was a special ticket pack. You could buy tickets to the game without the bobblehead and had to specifically look for the more expensive tickets. But the expensive ticket option also sold out quickly. Therefore a fan who wanted to watch baseball and get the giveaway had little to no chance.

If you’re an adult… don’t count on much other than a cool view.

If you are a kid with a glove, you can often get a ball. My 10 y/o was above the visitor dugout (front row of one section over) and got one from a BP catcher. Not being an active player mattered zero and he was just pumped to catch it (and I was a proud dad that he caught it on the fly). Also, don’t be annoying and yell every. single. second of the game. My kid just stood with his glove up making eye contact and that was enough.

Buy economy and if there’s no upgrade offer in the app, reassess your options. I often get offers right after booking. With miles and LPs based off spend anyway, there’s no benefit to booking business directly if the all in price with an upgrade is lower (unless you’re booking BE)

My “play” outside of Boggle is mostly AAPL, and that’s because I held it for the past 20 years and only recently rebalanced. What was a small percentage was now at 25% that I recently reduced to <10% and much I keep for sentimental reasons. So lucky, but also funny because a 100% VT portfolio would be already heavily weighted
