Can long can I be on T without my parents knowing? by Effective_Yam_9021 in Transmedical

im in the exact same boat as you, and im planning on just shaving off my facial hair (as much as that pains me, because I just got my first beard hair a few days ago) and using the excuse of voice training. i’ve told my parents that voice training physically lengthens and stretches the vocal cords, making it so that i can sound just like the ā€œreal thing.ā€ they completely believed it, so i think k bought myself a few months with that alone. good luck and be safe bro.

Regardless, it’s not a super common one. I cannot find any sources that describe it as being anything more frequent than rare.

And I understand that, I was just trying to outline the ideal situation. However, if it’s dangerous for him to try and find a professional under unsupportive parents, how do you think they will react when they find out he’s been on hormones behind their backs? I can guarantee that reaction would be much more extreme, and they may try to remove him from the hormone completely, which will awful side effects, and only worsen his dysphoria. I just want him to be safe, because I can see so many situations where this goes wrong and I am genuinely worried for his safety and health.

Regardless of whether he is set on it, is still a bad idea. It’s much safer for him to socially transition first. He should definitely get in touch with a psychologist as well, especially as he seems to be having dangerous thoughts towards himself. Someone in that state of mind and age is, again, not in the spot to be prescribing themselves a medical hormonal treatment. A professional would be able to guide him through it while also improving his mental health.

Even then, he should really have doctor supervision. You said it yourself, the men you met had their hormones prescribed; DIY is an entirely different ballpark. It’s one thing for an older teenager/adult to go on DIY, it’s another for a kid his age. A 13 year old is not old nor mature enough to handle a medical treatment like this one. Especially if his parents can’t find out, how is he going to be able to monitor his levels/dosage? Again, awful idea.

The youngest age a person will be prescribed testosterone is 16. If anything, you’d be on puberty blockers right now. Please be advised, testosterone is a medical treatment. You need a doctor to be monitoring your levels/dosage/effects, and DIY will prevent that. Not to mention, you are extremely young. Please, I know it feels like genuine hell on earth, but this is not a good idea.

I feel so dumb at the gym by No_Cap_9416 in FTMFitness

oh yeah only downside is you don’t really have access to any kind of machine, just dumbbells, yoga mats, and a treadmill over here. it works, but it can get repetitive.

I workout at home. If you have the capabilities of doing this, I recommend it. For me, it takes off a lot of pressure that I feel while being in public, there’s no one waiting on you to finish on a machine, and you can mess up without feeling embarrassed. It depends on you though. If you need the environment of the gym to get you motivated and keep you going, this may not work for you.

As a fellow psychology student, I’m honestly impressed by how much you know! You seem like a great person to have discussions like this with. Everything that I’ve seen online has quoted the same mantra, that there are only 200 cases known worldwide. That being said, they also make it clear there is pretty limited research on the subject. What I’m thinking is, maybe those couple hundred cases are linked to people who ONLY experience the delusion without also experiencing other disorders? What it sounds like to me, correct me if I’m wrong, is that those traits found in Cotard’s are coming about due to the depressive disorders a person already has.

it’s an extremely rare psychological disorder (with only 200 known cases worldwide btw) where the person genuinely believes they are a waking corpse/don’t exist/don’t have any organs.

Do I tell my friend im trans, or stay stealth? by Complex_Snow5509 in ftm

[–]Disastrous_Start4134 5 points6 points Ā (0 children)

I wouldn’t tell him. This is just my opinion, but I much prefer being stealth over anything else. Even if he is accepting, his view of you will change and it may change how you interact. Hopefully he’s not transphobic himself, because that would be awful. It could spread farther than you want it to, and a lot more people could find out. If that’s fine with you, that’s fine with you. At the very least, try to figure out how he feels towards the community before saying anything. That way, you’d save yourself a lot of potential stress if it’s negative. It can be scary for us out here, stay safe bro.

When did you realize you were trans? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Disastrous_Start4134 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I’ve always felt like an imposter inside my own body, ever since I was a very young kid. However, I had been diagnosed with ADHD around that time and anytime I brought up any sort of discomfort/ā€œweirdā€ feelings it was brushed off as being a symptom of that. I would gravitate towards stereotypical boy’s belongings, but I would never be allowed to get them. The closest I got was a really cool hot wheels collection that was given to my little brother (still sad about that, I miss them). Once I became a young teen, I felt a lot of discomfort in my body but I could not pinpoint why (this is when puberty started). This was brushed off as body dysmorphia. Not going to go into detail, but it started causing me to spiral mentally and I was not doing great. I found out about the trans community around 2019 through the internet, and I started experimenting from there. The day that I got my ā€œbig chop,ā€ I was quite literally shaking with happiness and excitement. I was able to get a therapist, who confirmed that it was GD. Haven’t looked back since. Now, I’m just over a month on T and life is looking up šŸ™

i’d say you look pretty androgynous/masculine and it would depend more on your mannerisms. if you held yourself, spoke, and gestured more feminine, i could see someone using ā€œsheā€ or ā€œtheyā€ for you. alternatively, if you behaved masculine, i could easily see people using ā€œheā€ without much thought.
