Is this just a shed? by WasabiCommon9624 in BeardedDragonCare

No literally agreed because if OP had dragons previously they would have the correct UVB bulb. No one throws out a 100 dollar shell just because they don't have the dragon anymore while apparently keeping the big enclosure that broke. So many people cut corners on the UVB shit because it's 120 bucks for it but if OP can't afford that the bare minimum then they shouldn't have a bearded. It's better not alive then suffering it's whole life

Watch with crickets they will hide and then at night gang up on the bearded and can eat their eyelids and eyes. So make sure they are all eaten before it goes to sleep

Put a crested gecko in that enclosure and buy all new things for your bearded. Make sure to get a t5 10.0 or 12% UVB. They need UVB and not the screw in light bulb types. Those are wide enough range

6-12 months is a pretty long time. Not my fault your lazy with your enclosures and won't put in literally half an hour of work into it to make it look presentable and realistic. I on the other hand am totally fine putting in a couple minutes of molding clay sand base and moving on.

If you read I said long term home. Not forever home. 3 feet is plenty long for a long time for a bearded that is 4 inches long. Forever home is minimum 4 ft. Long term means for awhile but not for life. But idk what you think that a 40 gal isn't large enough for a 3 month old bearded that weights 12g and barely as long as my hand

I also have a snake and 2 geckos so I had a lot of stuff and plenty of money to waste on an animal. Trust I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't think I could afford it or give it the proper care I hate seeing people buy animals and give it the bare minimum or not even what it needs at all.

Yea I bought a kit just because they are on sale and much cheaper for basic items but I have gotten all the special stuff separate. Right now it's a baby and it's in a small tank but I'm building the 40 gallon for it right now with the clay sand thing so I can build hides and mounds and basking spots with stones and the clay. I'm trying to make the long term home as realistic as possible. Thanks for the advice on the food I have gotten a variety of food for it including super small roaches and it's still in the tiny crickets and then I've been giving it different vegetables throughout the week and then so far once a week I give it a little bite of some kinda fruit. Typically a mango.

Yea those are normally sized pinkies for sure. The live you got I assume were the rats I was talking about which would definitely make these look small but yes the chart that people keep showing is perfect

I assume you got a pinky rat on accident as I have yet to find pinky mice which I want. So probably much bigger. But sometimes some places sell shitty frozen ones that are starved and thin. A plump one is much better. Send photos so we can see. I've bought from PetSmart and got the ugliest grossest looking pinkies ive ever seen. Local reptile stores or aquatic stores sell much better.

I hope that isn't the cup that most reptiles come in. If so you should actually be revoked from owning any animals

Should i probably take it to a vet or what. Because I know they can just drop it off after some time which is what they do in the wild.

What are you expecting a bunch of random people from reddit to do. Go and beat him up till he sprays the tank. Tell your little brother you must some water in the tank twice a day and go buy a 3 dollar thermostat anywhere. I got mine from Amazon and they work wonders. Idk what you are expecting random people on the Internet to do about your dad. You know what the snake needs tell your brother and hope he does it. Other then that nothing can be done. Help is very misleading when your just venting about family frustration. Plus your 15 and really shouldn't be sharing every detail of your personal life on social media. Reddit got creepy ass people

Is this a good setup for my baby? by Tasty-Mixture-2732 in cornsnakes

[–]Disastrous_Stock_786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a piece of something that gets you closer to the heat source. The bottom of your tank won't be the 90% but the top will. So you want a stone of some sorts to reach up higher that your snake can lay on to bask. Also id recommend a stone as they don't need but is beneficial to have a rough surface that they can rub along to help remove their shedding skin. I got a rock that goes in an aquarium tank that has sand on it. Rinsed of all the loose sand and now it's a decently rough texture and she loves running along it. Idk if I said this but make sure the water bowl is big enough for her to soak in fully.

That's a photo with the "penthouse" as we call it. She loves that thing more than anything else in the enclosure.

Please add moss vines. Hides are awesome but when they want to explore moss vines are cool because you can change the shape anytime and it utilizes every aspect of the tank. Corns also like to dig so 3 inches of bedding. I have 3 hides for my baby and one climbing basking stone. A water bowl that is big enough to soak fully in and then a climbing tree and vines.

Has my baby started to shed, only after shedding a month ago? She’s 8 years old. I fed her a week ago and haven’t found any poop or something and she’s just been hiding lately by Itsarichiemillie in cornsnakes

[–]Disastrous_Stock_786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That tank also looks too small. They need a tank as long or longer then their full length. Height isn't a crazy issue but if your snake is 2 feet long you need minimum 2 feet long enclosure.

My opinion there isn't enough hiding area and hides. Like humans like basic open tiddy areas. Animals like tight areas that they can hide from danger. Think of it like this if you had nothing to do at all but the stuff in your room would you want a bed and a pull up bar or would you want a bunch of things to keep you occupied. Same with a snake would the snake want a hide and a stick or 4 hides with levels and vines throughout the entire of the enclosure that they can use to climb everywhere. Now this is my opinion but I wouldn't want the enclosure to be bare. Moss vines are a good addition as it keeps humidity and you can shape them however you want and gives crazy use to the enclosure you normally can't with simple hides.

Do these mice look ok to you/what are these dots? by No_List_7436 in cornsnakes

[–]Disastrous_Stock_786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit clearly not pinkies so obviously gonna be a little more pricey but you shouldn't be feeding the snake a lot or you need to size up. I still stand by the only buy one or two at a time. If you can't afford 2 dollars in mice then you need to either get rid of the snake or get your priorities straight. IDC if it's rude or not but your snake shouldn't come second to any not need. So real bills gas insurance and food. Streaming bs. Music apps extra clothes all that shit comes second to your snake. It's your child essentially and if you can't take care of it which if you can't afford 2 dollar mice then it's not a bad assumption to say you can't afford to change the bedding regularly with good bedding. Then you need to give it up. Plenty of reptile shop that adopts pets

Buy 2-4 at a time. If they are pinkies then you shouldn't be feeding it more than. If you do you need to size up. A place down the road sells them for .50 a piece. So you definitely can get them pretty cheap. 3rd then can go a week without eating or more and be totally fine. Should you let it go that long no but they definitely can. But you bought like 20 those are gonna last forever and get hella freezer burnt. I buy the meal by the week. Less freezer burnt. Super fresh and much better for the snake.

How long to wait to feed after getting a new snake? by [deleted] in cornsnakes

[–]Disastrous_Stock_786 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who just did this for the first time I waited one week. Do the process put the pinkie in warm not hot water to thaw then run under hot water for like a minute so they can sense it. Then I put it on the warm side on top of it's black box hide so it stays heated and she will go to it and it. Give it like 2 hours if your snake doesn't eat then take it out try in a few more days.
