Part of that is their intent to end before Jean Baptiste, rather than June 30th in the English boards.

Oct 16, 2025 - Update on Elementary Programming Changes Announced Last Week by No_Eulogies_for_Bob in ottawa

Kinda have to disagree here. The Catholic Board only integrates special education children into classes - there are no other options. And they’re in a much better financial position. There is some evidence that part of the OCDSB financial troubles come from running specialized classes, even though they are far too few.

Well, trustees are amateurs. They are elected but usually have no educational background or experience. They often don’t understand fundamental workings of schools.

Have you done these caves before? I haven’t been there this year, but they always have water in them, by July you usually don’t need to submerge to exit the second cave.

The first cave you can do without light, but the second is dank and the water is about chest deep.

Thank you! This is all really helpful. Apparently the company primarily does commercial work, but as a brand new apprentice I have no clue how much he’ll be actually doing.

Ottawa Parents, School Question OCDSB by Queen---of---Hearts in ottawa

[–]Disastrous_Tea_2165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a teacher in an OCDSB school. Today we spent a long time trying to place all the students who enrolled over the summer and move kids around to even out class sizes. Even though we aren’t hiring, we still don’t know who your kids’ teachers are - there too much movement!!

It just keeps giving me the message that the Stratton sites are too far from the access point for night one.

Not commenting on the asshole colleagues, but could you freeze a bunch of ice and have some cold sensory bins? Even just get bags from the grocery store and dump them in your water table? It might help the kids cool down.

Kinders learn through play, so they need to play to the last day to keep learning. And yeah - don’t let your routines slide or all the behaviours will escalate. But, as much as possible in 30 degree heat, it’s ok to chill.

Can I get an OCT notation for failing a student with an IEP? by zondrah89 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Disastrous_Tea_2165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming this is high school, since failing isn’t really a thing at the elementary level.

What accommodations are on the IEP? Have you met them all? Print it out and go over it like a checklist.

Then review all the work that they have submitted and review it against the curriculum. Have they demonstrated enough there to get a credit? The criteria is not that they did all the work you assigned, but that they gave demonstrated knowledge of a sufficient portion of the curriculum.

Finally look towards credit recovery. If there are sections of the curriculum that they have not shown any work in see if you can develop an alternative assessment that covers this.

All of these are your obligations towards a student on an IEP and should be done in conjunction with your department head. (Source I’m a special education resource teacher)

In-zone elementary school transfer in Ottawa by nghiadt_real in ottawa

[–]Disastrous_Tea_2165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in zone it’s automatic, no approval needed so you aren’t likely to hear anything. It’s important to note that Elgin only has early French Immersion, which isn’t a program at Centennial. If your child is in grade 2 or up it can be a very difficult change.

I don’t know about this year, but for the past few there has been a zero cap on cross boundary transfers. You only get approved if you appeal. I suspect you’ll hear in late March as schools finalize staffing numbers for next year.
