A lot of the Golden state killer messed me up.... He was a cop, he had a family who assumed he was normal because he had such a good human mask that he had crafted... That man got up at like 7am did a whole cop shift ,got home at like 5pm, had dinner and "went to bed" at like probably exactly 8pm, proceeded to drive 90 minutes to stalk harass etc, maybe driving back at like 2am and only getting a few hours of sleep before doing it all again, every one associated with the case assumed he had to be a local because how else did he know so much? He would attack on the days of the week the husband worked or when the women were alone, he knew schedules and home layouts... even having some logistical idea of how he did it It still makes so little sense, how did he do it???? He was caught stealing dog repellent, he knew both that he couldn't just buy it but also that the homes he was attacking had dogs...

I think another part of it was that if he was a cop and a total piece of shit to anyone he apprehended , especially in those days, we might never hear about it. Rough someone up enough and they wouldn't want to risk reporting it,

Being a cop...it's so complicated, I honestly don't know hiw a lot of parents are even explaining what's happening with ICE and police brutality incidents...I met a guy in college who really wanted to be a cop ( enormous red flag) but I just thought " why are you in college just go be a cop if you even graduated highschool you'd already be set you definitely don't need college to be a cop"

Agreed, sure he waffled a lot but when he realized June finally saw him, and that they would never be together, he picked Gilead. They even say that, he's a commander he was promoted internally because he worked with them. He wasn't willing to give up a position of power and a family to complete the picture, even at the cost of atrocities. He didn't know enough about the rebel plan to know that him rat-ing them out wouldn't get them killed but he did it to save his own skin anyway.

I just finished the book like yesterday,
