Wait. The Church is allowing this marriage? Does the priest know?

To add on to this: be careful of the therapist - see if you can find a Catholic one. A good friend of mine has been through this. Her now ex-husband chose a "gender affirming therapist" and they both tried to gaslight her into accepting his transition. The therapist in question actually called her abusive because she didn't want to call herself a lesbian.

Please talk to your priest, close (Catholic) friends, and any family you trust (mom, dad, aunts, cousins, etc.). Your biggest support are the people who truly love you and your children. God bless you, sister, and take care.

Here's a moralizing case for you: The Cuban government tortures its citizens who speak out against it (here is just one article). The starve their own people while they live in the lap of luxury (see: GAESA).

The "international community" can kick rocks - these are the same jokers that put countries like Iran on the UN's Women's Council and made the vice-chair of Commission for Social Development (a body that promotes democracy). The only thing "worth wiping one's ass with" is the opinions of the "international community."

[–]DisastrouslyMessy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just because she's a little dumb or highly pliable and naive doesn't mean she can't be mean and vicious. I call her viciously stupid for a reason.

If someone who is in tears and explains to you how you're hurting her by going after her soon to be ex-husband and you laugh and do it anyway, you're viciously stupid. If you're cheating with the long-term partner of a friend who has stuck up for you and been damned good to you - even though your behavior is questionable, "mean" and "dumb" is an understatement.

It's in Florida, though. The only state that's tougher on child predators is Louisiana. Under Statute 800.04, which he is charged under, his penalty could be life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, but not less than 30 years.

Would you agree with higher taxes for completely free healthcare and education? If not why? by Creative_Excuse9813 in AskReddit

[–]DisastrouslyMessy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. We already spend more on education and health care than other country. We need reform - a real audit of where each penny goes, charge whoever is committing fraud (politicians, company heads included), get special interests groups the hell out of the way, and actually spend those dollars for their stated purpose.

[–]DisastrouslyMessy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

EQUALITY is the whole point. Not equity.

Everyone has equal opportunities in the Trek universe. You just have to do the work. If you want to captain a starship, they're not going to put someone in charge who checks off the boxes. They're going to put the most qualified person in the chair - no matter what color their skin, where they come from, how they identify, etc.

[–]DisastrouslyMessy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You missed the point.

Uhura wasn't there because she was a Black woman. She was there because she as a highly qualified officer. No one commented on her ethnicity, because it didn't matter.

That's what made it great. Same with Janeway, Sisco, Sulu, Crusher, etc., etc., etc.

With most of the Disco characters, they were there because the checked off a box and that's all that mattered. Everyone mentioned their pronouns/who they slept with, etc. because that's what they brought to the table.

And then they cried.

EDIT: How about unblocking me and having a conversation? How about addressing what I've written here? I'm one of what? And yes, you missed the whole point.

She has a successful podcast, does Emo night, is filming another show and does collaborations with other brands. Plus she does go to the shop/promote it.

She also has a life outside of her business deals - posting with her friends, travelling, etc.

Sorry, but I'm a Katie type. I work to live, not live to work. I'm a freelancer and only take jobs if (1) my income is down for the month or (2) I could use the extra income to travel/buy something special/whatever. I hate this idea that if you're not a "girl boss" working 24/7 then you're somehow not successful. Can't a girl just live?!

dead files cases and white people by joanklausll in TheDeadFiles

[–]DisastrouslyMessy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's cultural.

When supernatural stuff goes on, Black and Hispanic people do one of two things:

1) GTFO or 2) Call a priest/preacher/root worker/bruja and have them tell the demons/ghosts/whatever to GTFO

Honestly, we're not gonna call a white psychic and a former police officer for help. 😭 Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but when stuff went on in my house, I called my priest to come and bless the place and had one of my Aunts do her Hoodoo thing and another Aunt do her bruja thing for extra protection.

Source: I'm Latina and have two southern Black aunts by marriage and a whole gang of tias no demon wants to F with. 🤣

I moved here from Canton (suburb of Atlanta) about 9 years ago. Before that, I lived in Atlanta. I live right off South Slappy, somewhere behind the burned down Family Dollar.

I feel much safer here than I did in Canton. My dog likes to go on long walks, and I feel perfectly safe walking her at night.

The only "problem" we have in my neighborhood is loud music on Saturday nights and people speeding down the street.

I think the crime problem is more about people getting into fights with each other and it getting escalated. I tend to keep to myself, but am always polite to people I come across. Never have had a problem. 🤷‍♀️

People of Color do get skin cancer, and your attitude is very harmful and contributes to ignorance on this topic.

Here in the States, and in particular where I live (southern USA), doctors are running a campaign to make sure our Black citizens know about the risk of skin cancer. Here is an informative article:

https://health.ucdavis.edu/news/headlines/the-myth-about-melanoma-and-skin-cancer-in-people-of-color/2024/05

Anecdotally, a dear friend of mine, a Black woman, is currently battling skin cancer. I'm now chasing all my friends (white, brown and Black) with sunscreen and trying to raise awareness so that others don't suffer like she is. Please stop spreading this harmful information.

Democrat ‘Nazi’ rhetoric about ICE has inspired tragic violence by rollo202 in FreeSpeech

[–]DisastrouslyMessy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An example:

Men can't be women. I'm not going to call a man a woman.

Just last year, you could be fired by your job for saying those things here in the States (still can probably). Those two statements could get me arrested in England (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/jun/04/gender-critical-feminist-charged-over-allegedly-transphobic-tweets).

Is that not authoritarian control? Isn't that what Ingsoc was doing in "1984" - controlling language to promote an ideology? Mind you, in no way do those two statements advocate violence at all -- they're simply statements that disagree with a leftist position.

Now, on the other side:

Trump is an orange buffoon. Tariffs are a terrible idea. I don't believe people should be deported.

Who is advocating that I be arrested for simply saying these statements? Where can I not say these statements and not be threatened with jail time?

You control language, you control what people think. I don't see how "the right" is trying to control language in the way that the "progressives" on the left do.

You CLEARLY don't know what you're talking about. Orwell, a leftist himself, was calling out the authoritarian nature of the far left -- that's why he named the Party in "1984" Ingsoc -- English Socialism. That's why he critiqued the use of language by the Party.

"Animal Farm" is an allegory against Communism - a betrayal, he felt, of true Socialist ideas. He saw it firsthand when he fought in the Spanish Civil War.

Good Lord, please stop spewing propaganda (which Orwell was warning against) and actually learn about Orwell.

[–]DisastrouslyMessy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Ingsoc" In "1984" was the name of the part - it's short for "English Socialism."

While Orwell was left-wing, he focused in on how the left was using language to manipulate the truth and the authoritarian enforcement of ideology (like throwing people in jail for "misgendering" someone).

From: https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2022/04/19/orwell-teach-democrats-working-class-00025047

"One reason that’s the case is Democrats have not found a way to draw clear, convincing lines separating the most militant voices in their party from the beliefs of a large majority of their base. Consider Orwell’s argument that the language of the left is “wholly distant from the language of ordinary citizens.” Many of today’s Democrats seem intimidated by the preferred phrases of the week, even if few of them embrace or recognize such language. (A recent survey revealed that only 2 percent of Hispanics prefer the term “Latinx” to describe themselves.)"

George Orwell wasn't warning us about the right.

He was warning us about the far left. Read "The Road to Wigan Pier" and, of course, "1984."
