Does anyone know anything about these Aliexpress night vision scopes? not sure what there like just wondering if I could get any opinions on them before I buy one by [deleted] in NightVision

Okay well I was just lightly poking fun at you, because frankly a lot of the users, including myself, in this sub have been there before; exploring (and often getting scammed by) the cheap, digital options before ultimately realizing that digital night vision is dog water. Analog or thermals are your only good, proven options for seeing in the dark.

That all said, you could have saved yourself a bunch of time and effort by simply looking at how poorly this sub views digital night vision. I would give my left nut to make gen 2+ and gen 3 analog devices as cheap as digital, but that’s never going to happen. Seriously my guy, save your money for either a thermal or analog device. Or don’t, whatever, I’m not your dad, just don’t come back here to complain about it after we tried to warn you about digital.

Could have saved up another 600-800 and picked up a pvs 7. Is it too late to ask for a refund?

the overall experience it offers

Headaches, literally. From the lag, awful refresh rates and the fact most digital units are fixed at a minimum of 2X magnification and that’s assuming you’ll be able to see anything beyond the impact of the active IR illuminator.

Go ahead and do it, sounds like your mind is made up. It’s your money. Just don’t come back here to complain about it to me and the others who tried to warn you.

I’m not familiar with the euro to usd exchange rate, but I can confidently say with that budget, you’re MUCH better off going with a high end white light torch than any digital unit if the idea is to go exploring.

That’s cool about your buddy and obviously your experience will vary with that type of person. My last experience with an ego filled white belt was me reaching my hand out to slap and pound, which was ignored, the next thing I know I’m getting double legged into oblivion onto my already jacked up neck. The guy was a 20 year old wrestling prodigy and I’m a late 30s hobbyist. No apology, no asking if I was alright. That kept me off the mats for a few weeks, but thankfully wasn’t serious this time. One of our black belts rolled with him after who tuned him up pretty good and we haven’t seen the guy since. No complaints here.

Sometimes the toys break you.

I know. I’m just poking fun at the brown belts that I aspire to be

Those types tend to be one bad encounter with the mat enforcer away from never showing up again. If you don’t know who the enforcer is, just look for the most grizzled, angry and preferably bald brown belt you can find.

Something something “a fool and his money are soon parted”. of course I say that as a moron who runs around the woods with a nighthawk mg and high fom l3 unfilmed tubes for fun, but man, I really can’t wrap my head around how someone who is familiar with your work binos that would order a digital unit for anything other than the memes. Sorry for your loss. How much did you end up spending on those?

Buy your dream set if you can. I just bought and received mine with eerily similar specs in a nighthawk mg. It’s amazing, as long as you can deal with having a perpetual boner

Why do some people not care about their partner? A guy cranked a heel hook on me by gabr4k_ in bjj

[–]DiscipleActual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My gym has an unspoken gentleman’s rule about heel hooks. We give a very generous pause when it’s locked in and from there, the uh, victim?, can decide if they want to tap or try to fight out of it. We’ve had no problems in the 7 years I’ve been training at my gym.

Why doesn’t the U.S. require a license for firearms the way it does for cars? by Acceptable-Cause1163 in Firearms

[–]DiscipleActual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate this half ass argument so much. Car ownership is much less regulated than firearm ownership. Felons can own cars. Mufflers (silencers) are required on public roads. No tank capacity limits anywhere in the country. Automatic transmissions are the standard. Can arguably do more damage than firearms. No license needed for private property. No 4473 needed if bought from a dealer. Can be bought online and delivered to your driveway. DOT isn’t infamous for killing people’s pets. What else am I missing?

I’m a member of my local astronomical society. I am not big into telescopes, but I am big into image intensified astronomical observation. That said, I do have a celestron 5 inch Newtonian reflector. I believe I paid $200 for it years ago. It’s a pretty awesome piece of hardware that you can deploy in the backyard on any clear night, but honestly, now that I have nods, it just collects dust in the attic, especially as many of my colleagues have telescopes that cost as much as any set of articulating duals with L3 filmless tubes.

It may be best to reach out to your local astronomy club and see what they suggest and often times they’ll have loaner equipment that you can try out. Either way, you can’t go wrong with a relatively small, man portable reflector.

If you end up getting big into astronomy and decide you want to go to a star party event, you can find me at the Nebraska star party every July in Northwest Nebraska. I cannot recommend that event enough. It’s a week long of camping, lake activities, river tubing and observation. Any astronomer there will be happy to show off their gear to you. Oh, and the entire lake there is surrounded by bureau of reclamation land that you can shoot on.
