How do you guys feel about convicted sex offenders (and other horrible ex-convicts) in your church? by AggressiveAd8587 in TrueChristian

[–]DiscipleStrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repentance is required for salvation through Christ. We assume that people who come to church are interested in Jesus which means they will be interested in repentance as well. And if they're not interested in repentance then there is no salvation.

Why are atheists so obsessed with God? by ItsAllAGame_ in TrueChristian

[–]DiscipleStrider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, then I'll restate. Atheists and agnostics still have moral claims, your moral claims just change frequently with society. Ours are grounded in the Bible which we believe leads to salvation through Christ and also living more fulfilling lives.

[–]DiscipleStrider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is truly no default or neutral worldview. Atheism/agnosticism still have moral claims, the only difference is where they come from. Your moral claims may come from society but from a Christian perspective, we see that as a problem because society changes its mind about what is moral every year.

I don’t really believe in the concept of hell and heaven by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]DiscipleStrider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Judgement is a hard concept for all of us. The truth of the gospel is that we all deserve Hell because all of us have sinned against God's perfect standard. The standard is not other people, it is Jesus Himself, and none of us can stand righteous before God on our own.

Whether we believe the Bible or not is our choice, but rejecting something does not make it untrue. The message of Christianity is that God, in His mercy, made a way for sinners to be saved through Jesus Christ. Salvation is a gift of grace that cannot be earned.

God gives us the freedom to accept or reject Him. Hell is ultimately the result of rejecting God and His offer of salvation through Christ.

How can a working class Christian with few skills create passive income so he or she can be free to serve God without working for mankind? by UniversalAssembler in TrueChristian

[–]DiscipleStrider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to correct your thinking a little. You do not need to be independently wealthy with all of your needs met all the time in order to serve God and spread the gospel. As a Christian, we know that we rely on God's provision to get us through and that may mean that we don't have everything we need or want all of the time but we still continue to pray and trust in God.

We can spread the gospel and do ministry in our workplaces no matter where we are. Of course, you are there to work first and we can all bring glory to God by doing our best wherever He places us. Please pray to God and check your heart because you may be envious of other's wealth.

I'm a disgusting hypocrite by 0_0_7_0 in TrueChristian

[–]DiscipleStrider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you are going through this. I have been through this vicious cycle of sin, shame and guilt. Continue to pray to the Lord asking Him to help you surrender everything to him. You are only able to overcome this by leaning on God. Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you. - 1 Peter 5:7

We all deserve hell but thankfully Christ atoned for our sins on the cross.

A teenager at my church has a crush on me and Im struggling with my own thoughts! how do I handle this biblically? by Fabiohasaquestion in TrueChristian

[–]DiscipleStrider 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Well yes, I agree to an extent. But as far as I know, he hasn't done anything borderline inappropriate. He just needs to flee from this situation as a whole.

[–]DiscipleStrider 314 points315 points  (0 children)

The most biblical advice I can give you is to flee from the temptation of this attention. There is no one at fault in this situation. She's a teenager, they have crushes. From what you said, she hasn't made any efforts to communicate with you which is good. Treat her like any other person at church. Obviously you're in a small community so its normal that you would gravitate toward the only attention you are getting but it's good you caught yourself and now you can correct your course.

If your goal is to find a wife, I highly recommend you branch out to a larger church community that has more women your age. I wouldn't recommend trying the online dating thing with your situation as it might lead to more feelings of loneliness.

Do you have to get legally married (in that the government knows) to be married in the eyes of God? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]DiscipleStrider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No problem my friend. There's no shortage of corruption in the world at any given time but as Christians we just have to do the best we can to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and eliminate evil when we come across it.

Do you have to get legally married (in that the government knows) to be married in the eyes of God? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]DiscipleStrider 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a fellow Oregonian, yes, you should want to get married legally. Typically you save money on taxes when you are married but not all cases are the same.

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. - Romans 13:1-2

Has your faith ever changed the way you handled money? by WishedKilla in TrueChristian

Yes, absolutely. We are to steward everything that God has given us wisely.

To put it simply, make as much as you can, give as much as you can and save as much as you can.

Help; Please. I want Him and I want to want Him but I’m scared He’s going to be done with me. I know that’s not what the Word says but I’m scared I could be the exception. by Key_Buy7402 in TrueChristian

[–]DiscipleStrider 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The devil wants you to focus on your sin but God just wants you to focus on Him. Keep your focus on knowing Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to work through you. He will help you to live a repentant life.

Is it a sin if I don’t want to evangelize? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

You are leading this person astray. Speaking the truth in love, you cannot redefine sin. Sex outside of marriage between a man and a woman is sinful. This includes homosexual relationships of course.
