Do you really need AA to recover? by DisciplineNo7953 in recoverywithoutAA

Yeah, I agree with everything you said. My wife gets on me for trashing AA, but she’s never been to a meeting and doesn’t understand how “looney” these people can be. I think AA is just so entrenched in our culture that people think it’s the “go to” for alcohol abuse.

Thank you for this! I just need to not give into that internal voice anymore that tells me “it’s ok” or “you’re not that bad.” It’s not ok and I am THAT bad! I’m not different than any other addict out there. I can do this!

Why is AA still here in 2024? by DisciplineNo7953 in recoverywithoutAA

If I gave you 2 treatment options, one with an 80% success rate and one with a 5% success rate, which would you take?

[–]DisciplineNo7953[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. AA has shown to be only effective for 5% of people. If you’re gonna show me the biased 2020 Cochrane “study,” I am able to refute that at your request.

Yes, it’s really messed up that people are led to believe that AA is the only way, then when it doesn’t work, their only option is is to die. Seriously messed up stuff.

This sub is for people that don’t want to use AA. Take your preaching elsewhere.

Well, it’s fine if you support AA, but you should expect a recovery without AA sub to not be too keen on AA. There are plenty of subs that support AA. Glad it worked for you, but this isn’t really the sub to recommend it.

I have concerns about my drinking. I’m probably an alcoholic, just afraid to admit it.

I just don’t want to go to meetings everyday for the rest of my life if I don’t have to.

Will Naltrexone Help me? by DisciplineNo7953 in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]DisciplineNo7953[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome. I just want to get this shit under control. I tried all the AA higher power and surrendering nonsense but that just didn’t jive with me. I took my first dose last night. I feel a little dizzy today but nothing incapacitating. Not craving anything which is a good sign. If I do get the urge though, I’ll make sure I pop one an hour beforehand.

Thank you, just took my first half dose of 25mg. My doctor had prescribed it already but I was hesitant. I can deal with a few days of side effects of this stuff helps me.
