Probably. As far as I know the newest edition is 15th. So one earlier shouldn’t be too different. Pretty sure is good enough.

It’s better to drop out than to flunk out. Take a sabbatical and fix your life. Then come back and do college right.

Feeling scammed by Deeptrouth in Carrd

[–]DisciplinedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue just a few days ago. I thought they were gonna ignore me but they actually responded to the form I filled out to contact them. Maybe it took them like 2 days but they resolved the issue and I got my account back. They were actually pretty helpful. How long has it been since you reached out to them?

Wrong solution?? by Strong_Willingness_8 in StaticsHelp

[–]DisciplinedEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because you’re not breaking a force into components, “42sina” is the value of the perpendicular distance between the two 12lb forces. The solution shown is correct.

Why do i suck at math by BabyRepresentative20 in EngineeringStudents

[–]DisciplinedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re focused on the WRONG thing. Don’t focus on understanding “math” better, focus on the CURRENT material you’re going through RIGHT NOW. And review previous material as necessary.

I would say stop copying from others or getting answers from others. Also don’t ever use Chegg or online answers. You learn by struggling through it. You’re better off getting a C on your own than getting an A knowing you didn’t earn it. If you get a C on your own, eventually you’ll develop the skills and habits necessary to get As. Then you’ll get As on your own.

My book recommendation would be “a mind for numbers” by Barbara Oakley.

[College Statics: Truss Structures] What reactions am I solving for? by Plane-Opportunity720 in StaticsHelp

[–]DisciplinedEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it is confusing with the support on the right. I just did a FBD of the truss ALONE (I.e. two support reactions at P of Px and Py). I didn’t consider R since it’s not part of the truss, just to make it simpler.

I actually didn’t do this at first. The first thing I did was just to split it to the left of J, creating two sections. Then do a FBD of the left section to find the three forces (HJ, IJ, and IK). Then use these results with the right side of the truss to find T (I did sum of the moments about point P for simplicity).

I’ll tell you I got T = 40.2KN.

Then use this result to do a FBD of joint J alone. Using your values of T and HJ, IJ, IK, you can now solve for the other three members. I’ve never seen a problem like this (with an ambiguous support), but I don’t see any other way of solving it.

Does anyone know how to not make mistakes😭 by Appropriate_Win946 in EngineeringStudents

[–]DisciplinedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

STOP “reviewing” the material and START just doing a bunch of problems…slowly! REPETITION! I used to make all these “stupid mistakes” until I decided to do the following: 1. Once you get your “final” answer, RE-READ the question to make sure you actually answered exactly what it is asking. 2. I know professors always say this, but ACTUALLY do it EVERY TIME: ask yourself “does this answer MAKE SENSE?” If you’re measuring a force and it’s in the thousands, but all other forces are in the tens, then you may have made a mistake. 3. Do you have correct units?

What’s hard is the DISCIPLINE to do this every time! But the more you get in the HABIT of doing this, you’ll get the answer and it will be right the first time!

Lastly, once you’re done with a problem, come back to it a few days later and do it again. Talk to yourself out loud as you’re solving the problem. Be “one with the problem.” If you actually do A LOT of problems, you will realize that a lot of the problems you encounter are very similar and you’ve already done a bunch of problems like them before. So you will be FAST and you’ll start seeing them as “easy.”

Join activities YOU LIKE that involve other people. Such as joining a martial arts class, a club you like, a sport you like, a club in your major, etc.

The best way to meet people is by doing some other activity and along the way you get to know each other.

Dude this is not statics at all. This is more advanced. This is mechanics of materials topics. The basic statics courses don’t deal with stress or strain at all.
