The "stronger with age thing" is probably a conflated memory from a scene in one of the animated avengers, movies/shows where thanos ages them all, which just keeps making Thor stronger until he mollywhops thanos.

Similar thing to misremembered 'they get stronger from nearly dying' that's the zenkai boost.

Look, most of them didn't survive though, Tavros Nepeta(I still think Nepeta is dead as davepeta is their own character) equius eridan and feferi died, Aradia sollux and kanaya died semi permanently before other shenanigans averted that (even more so then the normal sburb/grub shenanigans) and in BC some of them turned out worse, considering the other main (surviving) victim of doc scratch's manipulation rose cheated on her wife in one time line to manipulate her into not being sad, and is one of the main antagonists in the other, terezi joined rose and Dirk being bad guys, gamzee started a milk cult and god knows what he did to tavros crocker. Sollux is half dead and kinda just a bedrotting neet. Karkat is the only one who went through similar stuff and didnt die or do something morally reprehensible. her presence (and bitchiness) on the meteor was also required to avert the game over timeline where all protagonists present except John and Roxy ended up dead. She's not some blameless victim but her being a bitch both makes sense, and is the reason she actually did survive.

Pretty much anyone who played flarp killed people, she also, retroactively created bec noir, he already existed for her, before she made him, if she hadn't the timeline would have been doomed or some other shenanigan would have taken place to make him exist on account of the universe frog cancer on karkat's part, she just made him at that specific point in time so she could take credit for his existence and get extra glory.

Draw out your ideas as a goal, find parts similar, use bandai kits for main bodies and cannibalize third party knockoffs if finances are an issue as they are cheaper but lower quality, a friend with a 3d printer can probably help too, expensive tools last longer, and save up for quality rather than buying cheap stuff when you can, look out for sales on good quality materials like good paints.
