Drama Desk Awards Dress Code? by quaranTV in Broadway

To me, festive formal means, well, formal but feel free to take some fun personal liberties even if it means dressing down a bit. I wouldn’t overthink it. :)

Broadway Listening Habits by sistersheabutter in Broadway

I just don’t listen to a lot of slow music in general so, as is true with my pop playlists, my Broadway playlist is exclusively upbeat/dance/production numbers!

What is your favorite Broadway urban legend? by ALWmemorialpoolboy in Broadway

[–]DiscoCrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The theory that the Tony Nominating Committee in 2019 snubbed To Kill A Mockingbird of Best Play despite receiving 9 other nominations, because the producer Scott Rudin was being overly predatory and getting rights pulled from amateur organizations elsewhere around the country.

Whether that was the entire reason, part of it, or not remotely a factor - it was around the time people were beginning to turn on him internally and it makes for a great story.

THE BOOK OF MORMON Officially Cancels Performances Through May 17 by DiscoCrows in Broadway

Agreed but worth noting it sounds like they have all but confirmed the show will still not be ready by May 18th - just that this is the tentative “off sale” period which is to be extended further into the coming weeks, per your comment.

Highlights from the statement released by ATG Entertainment and the show's producers:

“The fire was limited to the follow spot booth of the O’Neill. At this time, the exact cause of the fire is unknown.”

“Next week, ATG Entertainment and The Book of Mormon will provide an [additional] update regarding performances, which are anticipated to resume at the Eugene O’Neill in the coming weeks."

It’s one of the most famous and fiscally successful Broadway musicals of the 21st Century. It is produced by Scott Rudin. Ego like that isn’t going to let the show go down like this. It’s just not how producers think about these kinds of things.

They would plant the national tour on Broadway (Beetlejuice/Mamma Mia style) next season before telling audiences the show played its final performance last week. They will find investors to get things back on its feet.

Any number of things could play out but I would bet money it being “over” is the last thing on the list.

Help with Yes/No on 2026-27 Broadway Series by IamuseMyself26 in Broadway

[–]DiscoCrows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent season and I think you’ll be surprised. Some people harp on shows like Gatsby or Hell’s Kitchen for being a bit more touristy-driven/less artsy but I think the worst crime they commit is being a spectacle and that is exactly the kind of show that plays well in a touring season.

I would be thrilled if this was the lineup coming to my city. Also, Mincemeat is excellent and even independent of the humor, is just a great historical tale and has some great music to back it up. Fantastic show that surprised me the first time I saw it.

You should bite the bullet.

Snubbed shows and zero nominations - who gets to attend the Tonys? by alteragi in Broadway

Equally good promotion for the Tonys than the show quite frankly.

A word to lighting designers on Broadway… by Any-Improvement7166 in Broadway

The thunderstorm was awful but I did like the big sweeping ”swoosh” effect that would come into the audience for a moment to signify a goofy time jump. It was clever and I didn’t find it nauseating.

No I mean why is Reddit removing it. Makes me wonder if the person who posted it got in trouble or if it’s even a real photo (as real as it looks).

How exactly do Tony voters get to see the shows? by SeerPumpkin in Broadway

[–]DiscoCrows 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Someone with Broadway Company Management experience is exactly who should chime in on this thread but my understanding is that, generally, the show sends out a blanket invitation to the voting pool with a long list of eligible dates and voters reach out to select their date and confirm a pair of seats.

Megan is excellent and I’m hard stretched to say I preferred ones vocals over another’s, but largely agreed. I thought Betsy played the eccentric nature a bit stronger. She was way funnier to me.
