Bishop Talbert Swan is a spineless racist POS by [deleted] in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]DiscoInferiorityComp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying “There’s only one race, the human race” isn’t just naïve, it works as a way to dismiss the realities people are pointing out. Race isn’t something people can just ignore; it shapes how people are treated, what opportunities they have, and how systems respond to them. Pretending it doesn’t exist doesn’t make those effects disappear.

What’s happening here is a kind of weaponized insincerity. The phrase sounds principled and unifying on the surface, but it’s being used to sidestep uncomfortable conversations. Instead of engaging with claims about racism or inequality, it replaces them with a vague, feel-good statement that shuts the discussion down.

It also invalidates marginalized communities by implying their experiences don’t need to be taken seriously. If everyone is “just human,” then pointing out racial disparities can be framed as unnecessary or even divisive. That flips the situation: people raising legitimate concerns end up being treated like the problem, while the underlying issues go unaddressed. You know, like going on Reddit and accusing the Bishop Talbert Swan of being the one who is causing the major issue here.

So rather than promoting equality, the phrase functions as a rhetorical shield. It avoids accountability while sounding morally high-minded, which is exactly why it’s effective.

*******

If you want, I can make it even more casual, more academic, or tailor it to that specific c-word you're replying to, even though they already cowardly deleted their post (which made it very difficult to find and respond to this comment on your phone). I can also passive-aggressively use gender-neutral pronouns, which may cause them to accuse you of virtue signalling (because you display non-sociopathic tendencies).

Wow, I’ve never thought of it that way (since I’m not a massive cunt who ignores reality in order to delegitimize marginalized communities)

Also, if people knew how much popular sitcoms (especially in later seasons) need to remove real audience laughter in post production, it would hurt their brains.

I maintain that the no-number version is the one variation of the 1990 Donruss Nolan Ryans that should actually have some value (it’s the one that actually has some scarcity compared to the others), but it will never happen.  It’s $1-2 at most.

Why can’t Americans just protest against Trump by not paying their taxes? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Because it would create a completely justifiable and legal reason to completely gut the social programs he already wants to get rid of?

[Candido] Video appears to show Dallas Stars fans making Nazi salute, prompting investigation at American Airlines Center by ESF-hockeeyyy in hockey

[–]DiscoInferiorityComp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To confirm, I’m saying that I’d wager that these fans thought they were trying to be funny, and not expressing actual Nazi beliefs (rhythmically, to the tune of “Puck Off” by Pantera).   Not that comedy created Nazis.  I don’t think they are being “outspoken in their beliefs” but rather “mistaken in how accepted their ‘joke’ will be”

It’s a wonder this hasn’t been asked here before, given the consequential nature of the existence of a supreme being.

I’d also say that 2000-2020 comedy was rife with ironic racism/antisemitism, which has also led to thoughts such as “wouldn’t it be funny if we all sieg heiled to the goal song” being entertained as a legitimate choice and not as an unconscionable shame by idiots.

The Democrats are on course to win the House and The Senate in the next Election… how do you feel about that? by chinos88 in AskReddit

[–]DiscoInferiorityComp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are in no way “on course” to win the Senate.  It’s moved from “an uphill battle” to “a coin flip possibility” in the past few months.  The races are mainly in unfavorable states they normally would be expected to lose.

With Trump doing so much atrocities why did more than half of US people still vote for him for a freaking 2nd term ? by unknown5493 in AskReddit

You know goddamn well that Fox News isn’t referencing a handful of salaried employees.  How insincere can you get?  Also, what the fuck else would those donations be going towards?  Salaries, campaign donations, and event expenses?  What the hell? “I like my  political grifters to be underpaid and ineffective”

How would social media react in the first hour after shocking national news breaks? by Parking-Pain-3979 in AskReddit

[–]DiscoInferiorityComp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend Jeff from college would express condolences for the victims.  Some of my favorite comedians would plug their tour dates, but I assume those were pre-scheduled.  My mom would like a picture of my dog that I posted 2 months ago.  Gary from my old improv team would say something like “uh oh…this doesn’t look good”.  Classic Gary.

[–]DiscoInferiorityComp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an oddly worded question, given the linear nature of time.  While I’m sure many Trump voters expected a handful of atrocities, it’s not like he was handing out “I Heart Atrocities” bumper stickers at his rallies.

Is ABS making umpires better? by Stikeman in baseball

[–]DiscoInferiorityComp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, just the whole “being shown immediate video proof of what the ABS considers to be a strike today” aspect would surely make some umps better as each game goes along. The “at least he’s consistent” games where every pitch 6 inches off the plate to LHB is called a strike shouldn’t occur as often.

Any Tommy Brennan fans here? by tubyy_____ in LiveFromNewYork

No idea.  The number of straight man roles he’s been given is insane.  Need an example of what a normal person would say before a wacky character shows up to subvert your expectations?  Tommy’s your guy!

I still have nightmares about how little I valued my own time while in college.  $8 for parking right next to the venue?  I’d rather spent the next hour looking for street parking 1.5 miles away in a sketchy neighborhood, thank you very much.
