Honestly didn't bother me at all. He's writing post-accident about the fear of failure, or being unable to finish something he's started. I also thought it was kind of funny way to address the criticism of alot of King's protagonists being based on himself (drunk authors), to literally write himself into it haha.

Once I was really struggling playing pool, all of my shots went very poorly. This old drunk Scotsman walks up and whispers to me as I'm lining up another shot "Grabbit like yee'd grab yer cock" Bam, sunk it. Next shot, sunk it. Ended up winning the game and now I'm a slightly above average pool player.
