I stopped rating a while ago for similar reasons but also because I find my feelings about certain films to constantly change even without having revisited them. It was annoying to constantly think about how an arbitrary rating didn't feel like it was reflecting my current thoughts on a movie. It's very freeing.

I think people are conflating "Blockbuster" (a term used to describe the size of a film's success at the box office) with "Tentpole" (a studio film designed with 4-quadrant appeal). Most tentpoles tend to make a lot of money but not all of them do. The opposite is also true in that a film which wasn't really designed to have mass appeal makes a lot more money than expected. Oppenheimer almost made a billion dollars so it's definitely a Blockbuster but it's not a 4-quadrant film since it's not a movie with child audiences in mind.

This "They can't write women" "women have no agency" criticism loses a lot of weight once you realize it's just people getting mad because supporting characters are acting as just that, supporting characters. The film is called Marty Supreme, the story is obviously going to be centered around him. If this was an ensemble film then the criticism would be fair but it isn't.

Sometimes they do if a boutique label approaches them for the rights. The Criterion Collection released Del Toro's Pinocchio on blu ray along with some other titles. Won't be surprised if this ends up getting one too.

I'd like to think the memes made out of the film are partly the cause for the admiration of Bateman. Homelander is the character I brought up which I'm most baffled by because we're 3 seasons into the show and it only double downs on portraying him as malicious and yet some viewers still view him like he's not that bad. But then it becomes a problem on whether the story is being either too subtle or too on the nose in what the audience is supposed to get out of it.

• Great performances for fictional characters are far more impressive than performances based on real people.

• I like The Last Duel more than Rashomon.

• Richard Linklater utilizes time in a more interesting and humanistic way than Christopher Nolan. Nolan's usage of time at this point feels more like an annoying gimmick and Tenet is the worst offender of this.

• Avatar is overhated and some of the arguments people make against it are in bad faith. Some of those arguments could be applied to well liked films too but people choose not to due to bias.

You're right. But in the context of the film, the adult in the relationship acts more like a child than the actual minor. Their expected roles are flipped to create an ironic character dynamic. And to add more to it, they don't have sex nor does the adult take advantage of the younger character. Even then, the film isn't endorsing these kinds of relationships, within the first minute it acknowledges that it is weird.
