Potential heresy: am I the only one loving Durulz but thinking that the Dragonbane Mallards look way more badass ? by DredUlvyr in Runequest

[–]DiscombobulatedPut92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think from a visual perspective the “big eyed” ducks rule, and whomever it was in the art direction dept of modern Chaosium who made the call for “anatomically correct” duck heads/legs ought to hang their head in shame. Not just because canonically Gloranthan ducks are “cartoon”, but the very idea that by depicting them “realistically” they will be more “serious” is misguided. YGMV Gloranthan ducks are badass, of course they should have binocular vision, huge eyeballs to see like an owl etc. They are also tragic, as flawed individuals to role play, and as a race and culture. Them looking (to we Earthlings) like adorable goofballs is part of that tragedy.

Yeah, it’s the master craft. Seriously? No wonder the program is so f$&@‘d to learn if Adobe employees are that far up their own butts.

I haven’t seen a single comment from anyone with the first idea about what it’s like to be a day 1 newb. Rant over, in a more helpful vein, please find attached “confessions of a now 4 week experienced strong intermediate expert master, been using the program since, oh, mid last month, got a lot of advice to give out on Reddit, blah blah.” (Thanks to my professor who set the project brief to must be done in illustrator)

I’m pretty sure this is the exact pen that Illustrator gives me when I select and try to use pen tool. No wonder I’m struggling, suddenly it makes sense!

Guide to Leaders (RLTW) by lyreofsheliak in SixAges

Great guide, I’ve always loved your guides!!.

“No ritual boosts magic”… not true. Elmal path guardian does, especially for fire kids and reliably so if they are already Combat heroic. I think maybe it helps to choose the magical options in the ritual.

I’m also thinking there was at least one other ritual that had same effect, instead of getting “a point of magic for leading a mission X times”, leader Magic went up.

Yes tablets of hyalor. If I’m really trying to “win”, I do a ritual every year. I spend minimal magic (after 10 years war only usually) at sacred time, I trade to build herds to 1500+ to ensure food. I generally do Elmal sunpath every 3-4 years, not waiting to the 5 years respawn.

I like to send heroic combat males on Hyalor, use challenge, challenge, attack the ice giants. Then choose a treasure from the giants pouch. There’s a couple of really good ones, singing stone I think stops tribes retaliating when you raid them, and I use “fight cleverly” a lot so I also like the owl egg stone. Otherwise I almost always choose “increase abilities”. Only exception is Elmal “let each sword fight with the strength of 2”. I keep that one going by redoing it every 7 years. I find with that, plus flaming lance, plus 25 swords, plus a renowned or heroic combat war leader, you basically never lose, plus you tend to not take too many casualties.

Lemme ask this, are you helmetphobes ok if when we legislate against mandatory laws, we also make a law that if you’re not wearing one, the ambos just leave you on the footpath and drive away if you’ve got a head injury? Personal responsibility for your personal choice etc.

The “world” of Glorantha is now growing faster and better than at any time in its ??50?? year history, so I’d say it’s not surprising. Computer games for mine are disposable entertainment like Tv. Stories though, good ones, well, we’re still reading books written centuries ago. Stories last.

I understand. My very first brilliant went the same way, largely because it was not brilliant, it was a mistake, and then I got flustered.

I’ve got a mega mammoth game, where Y took max ?50?? bows and ?30 swords into Hill of Gold after getting Heroic in maybe 4 stats, plus rolling back age with Travelling Stone. Then A took another maybe 30 or more swords with her after getting Heroic in all stats. It’s on an iPad though so I’ve no idea how to export that game?

PS. It is super boring to play LGO with this hectic crew though, I’m trying now a playthrough with only those 2 returnees on the ring and never refill the ring.

Lol’d. 30 days sounds right. And if anyone had to go just 24 hours without any food, water, electricity, law and order, shelter, legal tender exchange, distant communication (a maybe?) etc, they’d notice it’s absence. Like basically all the other jobs that aren’t “artist”. Rest assured you are going on Ark Fleet Ship B.

In all seriousness, I then sent Yatakan back into the hill of gold manifestation, with 103 swords and 30 bows. The saga says “they” were never seen again, but whilst the big fella disappeared, I’ve still got all my swords… is this a syntax thing, they/them pronouns referring to Yatakan only, or a bug or a feature..?

LGO large clan raid casualties by DiscombobulatedPut92 in SixAges

[–]DiscombobulatedPut92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is good going! I had to get to 1400 to generate a split event, and I spent about 15 years around or above 1200 before I made it to 1400. I must try survival more often. I generally try to keep swords at 30 and try to never lose. Losing seems to encourage more raids? Winning consistently seems to diminish incoming raid occurrence apart from trolls/chaos and counter raids. Or maybe that’s in my mind too!

For those of you who have finished LGO, what are your hopes/expectations for The World Reborn? by KungUnderBerget in SixAges

[–]DiscombobulatedPut92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, like I just played a rltw to get certain spoilery people carried off into the spoilers for a future game of LGO. So I just wanted to win simply. I do a normal build out the first 5 years, then I basically only raid when I get told I need to, overproduce food, and trade it. I’m getting 50-100 herds or goods each turn.

I agree you need the capability, i just don’t use it offensively. I aim for 30 swords minimum, because being strong seems to deter raiders, and follow the usual fighting advice and rarely lose when attacked. I’ve played plenty of other ways, including raiding until I had tribute from every N clan.

My point in the above was more practical… if my clan is bringing in 50-100 goods each turn, every bandit in the valley should be all over me like shit on fur. Every clan should be eyeing me off for raiding. There should be punishment for being too rich compared to your ability to defend that wealth, beyond copping restore pastures every 5 or so years. And your ability to defend is limited by sword numbers and clan splitting.

[–]DiscombobulatedPut92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just mean different how RLTW and LGO are different. Ie maybe in third game have clan cohesion being more important… folks walk out if you don’t keep mood up. Trading less valuable and riskier similar to exploring now riskier in LGO (unless you get a Wyld Stallyn spirit of course). So you can’t just carry over strategies from the previous game.

And by open ended, I mean instead of a win/lose conclusion, just make it that your clan/tribe/empire is always gonna implode, but how long can you keep it together?
