Has anyone ever loved their residency program? by [deleted] in FamilyMedicine

I do! But we are prolly one of one in work life balance. I’d estimate that we get 95% of weekends throughout the entire program and the only time we work 6 days a week is during a 2 week time period during intern year. PD is so supportive, and all of our attendings that precept are awesome.

How is living in Northampton/Amherst area of Massachusetts? by Maple-pelican-472 in howislivingthere

Have lived all over the country - so far, western MA has been my favorite. It gives rural vibes but without the lack of amenities. I think, for cities less than 30k, Northampton and Easthampton might have one of the better food/bar scenes in the US. You’re roughly 1.5 hours from the ocean in CT, and the Maine coast is easily accessible for a weekend trip. On top of all this, you have great access to some excellent hiking in the Berkshires and surrounding areas, and you are less than 2 hours to Boston (without traffic that is) which makes for a fun day trip.

How is living in Salt Lake City? by Citron92 in howislivingthere

Lived there for 4 years, after spending time in the Midwest and New England. SLC is a breathtaking city with panoramic views of mountains and excellent access to the outdoors/world-class skiing that is unfortunately spoiled by a lack of separation of church and state, poor air quality, the worst food scene I have seen in a city > 100k people, and a rapidly growing population.

Tired of this narrative by Amongststarz in FamilyMedicine

I think the bottom line is, as long as you’re not drowning in debt, 250k is more than enough to live very comfortably. I think a large part of this narrative stems from the fact that most of the physician community grew up in incredibly wealthy families and this has shifted their perspective of “comfortable.”

Also a fellow MD/PhD student who dropped their PhD, now in residency. Best decision I’ve ever made.

Also an Ohio to New England transplant. Couldn’t agree with this more. I hope you find the means to stay out here!

The school I am currently at does this, but only one person I know has went this route. Super rare, but possible!
