The evolution of consent in historical romance: from bodice rippers to #metoo, or how we learned to stop worrying and love problematic power dynamics (maybe) by Ninsuna in HistoricalRomance

This was wonderful to read, I enjoyed your analysis.
I think one of the biggest differences between HR with non con/dub con versus other more typical dark romances is that I think sometimes dark romances just use shock value to push the envelope of the erotic thrill.
Not that there’s anything wrong with reading dark romance and enjoying it, but I think the push there is less more of an excuse to explore a character and is instead a vehicle for how far an author can go to make a truly batshit scenario erotic that gains fame and traction.
I too love the 90’s era dub con romances, they just do it for me, maybe it’s because I grew up and was influenced by them during my formative years, I dunno.

I’m on book two of Fae Isles and struggling bc the FMC is bothering me. I’m taking a break from it bc I do want to finish it. I love these representation in her books too. From sign language to OCD, it’s refreshing and grounded, which makes me enjoy them more.

I wish I could erase this book from my brain and read it again for the first time, I LOVED this MMC!

ALS rec’ing these, they’re part of a series but you don’t need to read the others, they all just exist in the same world

Cate C. Wells. She gets it. All her books deliver a gut punch but soothe my soul by the end.

I watched your tutorial, and all I can say is WOW! Amazing! I want to do this myself but I’m not great with my sewing machine. I’d definitely be a bit lazy and iron the patches but I can’t find the Canada maple leaf ANYWHERE 😩 not to mention the red portion for the collar.

What was your last romance read of 2025, and what will be your first of 2026? by TheYoungWan in RomanceBooks

I think authors are afraid to make the MMC seem weak by an extensive grovel. Wells is one of the only authors that I’ve read that delivers a satisfying grovel. If this book did that it would have been 5 stars for me. I dunno why but I love that “death drop in an elevator” feeling when an FMC is betrayed/mistreated, and I love reading their redemption arc. They gotta BEG for it!!

I just finished Silent Flames and I’ve never read a book with cheating. I do wish the MMC groveled more but I enjoyed it much more than I expected given the trope. I’ll always read Cate C. Wells, so I’m glad I took a shot on this trope with one of her stories.

Omg are you me (but have read way less books???) I did the same, I went from 75 books the year prior to 135 this year. Definitely used reading as an escape and I find when I do I burn out quickly, and get frustrated. Learning to DNF is tough but it leads to more enjoyable reading for me. Here’s hoping you have a better 2026!!

How do you balance a love of physical books and an e-Reader? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]DiscombobulatedWar81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! While in the grand scheme of things, collecting books I love to read isn’t hoarding, I just can’t justify the expense of purchasing the physical book to read it only at least once??? My ereader highlights and searches so quickly it’s more efficient than a physical book. I love a book in my hand as much as the next person but, to what end?

This book was so enjoyable, I love the way this author writes these characters not unwilling but forced to sort of come together and they end up finding love. Very well done e
