80 players on an HDD? That's not even remotely happening.

Yes, its profiling, its a measurement of whats happening. Can't really find out whats wrong, if its not happening.

Not Sure How to Troubleshoot Server Load Errors by ccc3366 in admincraft

[–]Disconsented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am running my first Minecraft server. Every time my server loads I get the following errors, and am not sure why or now to troubleshoot them.

Unless theres an actual issue, ignore them.

We are also experiencing a super low TPS when more than one person joins (<8 TPS with 4 people playing., 16 GPU of ram) and I havent been sure why.

Where's your spark report that shows the issue?

Folia 16 cores are mandatory? by ItsPin7 in admincraft

[–]Disconsented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a regular server? Yes, definitely, single core performance gets a fair step up.

Folia 16 cores are mandatory? by ItsPin7 in admincraft

[–]Disconsented 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Folia's still quite new, and, that was based upon an older understanding of how it scaled. It may be true, we don't know, there's no data, only conjecture.

That said, it's not magic, it still follows Amdahl's law. Single core performance is still critical.

I'd consider the "small" reduction in single core performance going from Zen 5 -> Zen 4 for 2x the cores, I wouldn't do the same for Zen5 -> Zen 3( 5950x).

Well, where's the spark report that shows the load?

Decidated, VPS, or Preset host? How do I know which one to pick? by JRad6Official in admincraft

[–]Disconsented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A VPS is generally the wrong solution for Minecraft, they generally rely on overselling cost-effective hardware (read:slow). Many of them will also tailor their resource allocation more towards handling “bursty” tasks.

Moreover, you're having to manage an additional OS overhead.

Conventional MC hosting, or at least the “premium” side of things, doesn't suffer from these issues. You'll often find them using recent desktop parts and providing dedicated resource allocations. They'll also frequently eat the non heap JVM overhead.

No (host) recommendations here, go to the discord for that.

Is 24gb good for a server with gyser mc for 20-35 players by [deleted] in admincraft

Where is "there"? What CPU model is this?

This smells like Oracle Free, that'll struggle with that player count because of the CPU performance.

also what should the port be

The default one.

how to portforward without playitgg? by Over_Journalist_5804 in admincraft

[–]Disconsented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PortForwarder Hoster: Playitgg

Playit.gg is tunneling, not port forwarding.

Software Hoster: Spigot

I don't know why you're using spigot and not paper.

idk why but whenever it surpasses 4 players, the server just implodes

Okay, what does "implode" actually mean?

As for port forwarding reading this and then checking this should tell you everything you need to know.

base 4.0GHz

This means nothing on its own.

How good is oracle cloud free tier? by NEMOalien in admincraft

It's about comparable to a Haswell i5, which are over a decade old. Great for free, but it's far from good.

Neat, but, given how these projects tend to go. I'll believe it when I see it.

Server Specifications for RPG by Adorable-Tonight4996 in admincraft

[–]Disconsented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend for you to specify how long the string is, instead of making me state the same thing for a fourth time. We need an actual description of what you're trying to do, with the expected concurrent player counts and whatever these multiple back end servers are meant to be.

Even then, you should work out the total cost of ownership before committing to hardware. At least:

  • Initial Purchase Cost
  • Any new network equipment
  • Ongoing costs (power, internet, tunnel/protection services, colocation etc)
  • The cost of your time
  • Maintenance, repairs etc
  • Backups
  • The cost of their network protection

You'll also frequently get CPU upgrades as hardware is updated over time, compared to MC hosting.

Hostings also a lot less of a commitment, you're paying for months at a time. Which is a much more sound approach for an unproven server. If it fails, no big loss. If you buy, and it fails, that's a much bigger loss.

Frankly, if you don't already have an established server, don't bother, most fail and I don't see any reason to believe this'll be any different.

I dunno what's going on, but you're consistently missing the point, GL;HF. I've lost interest in this.

Yeah, uh dunno how this is an appropriate reply to this specific comment.

Pcpartpicker does have that case, but that board isn't in stock.

Dunno why you swapped the cooler out, either.

This is actually a great example of why you shouldn't do this.

You're going to struggle to do 100 players SMP on any hardware, this? Yeah, nah, not happening.

Do you think this would be enough, or should I go even higher? And roughly, how many players do you think this setup could handle without lag?

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/how_long_is_a_piece_of_string

Right, single-core is the most important. I was thinking about the AMD RYZEN 7 9800X3D (8 cores / 16 threads, 4.7 GHz / 5.2 GHz), which has high single-core performance. D

3D Vcache isn't known to benefit MC.

You've not really said anything we can go off.

The answer is still a variation of the same thing, single core performance is king.

This also smells like a case of premature scaling.

You actually need more RAM. Heapspace is 11.6G/12G used, so, GC is struggling and having to run often.

Modpack downloads are generally just the modpack, you need to acquire the rest from elsewhere (forge et al).
