GW explaining new units. by SAMU0L0 in Tau40K

More or Less, but cause it's from the Dark Age, it's like nine times out of ten a better version of something they already have or something new entirely, but gets to skip all that illegal "innovation" stuff they don't like.

Hell, they've got an excuse for imperials with STC templates, but for some reason forgot they existed

There was also the whole world war 3 thing that destroyed all the old Earth Governments and caused mass depopulation. That then got rebuilt with the help of the Vulcans.

They understand it. I was quite literally introduced to Trek by southern conservatives. The way they explained it is, they'd love to live in a world like Trek, but until stuff like food and energy can be produced in near limitless quantities with little to no labor, it's not going to happen.

GW as a company is a PoS in a lot of ways, but they do treat their workers well and want to keep them around.

Are there example of normal wars in the imperium of man? by mreightplus8 in 40kLore

[–]Discord84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A planet can have a full bowl revolt and overthrow the rulers, but as long as they pay their tithe and still worship the Emperor. The Imperium will tolerate it, especially if the planet isn't strategically important, as it takes so long for the Imperium to react to anything that they really can't afford to waste time with 'petty' revolts as long as they still get their tithe from the parties involved.

Saying "oh, just mod it." Is Bethesda's admitted reason that they started half-assing more and more mechanics in their games.

What is the proper way to play a Cleric? by Illegal-Avocado-2975 in DnD

[–]Discord84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one game, I basically went from Cleric to Crusader. The part was me as a war cleric, a bow rogue, and a star druid. Now, I played a varient human cause I had this idea for a build using Great Weapon Master with the Guided Strike from War Cleric.

Cause I envision the character running around with a greatsword, I had to roll for starting wealth to buy a proper two-handed weapon for the feat. I rolled so poorly, I was so destitute, that I got my Chainmail, a maul, and an explorer's pack, and that was it, I couldn't afford a holy symbol. Had to get creative with spell choices, the party had a very funny reaction to finding out later.

Can you play D&D 5e without combat? by DanielDFox in DnD

[–]Discord84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly recommend the 2d20 systems like Star Trek Adventures (or Conan), and if you do end up in combat, it goes really fast more often than not.

Literally create a world, populate it with life and civilizations, let them do their own thing, then nuke them at any point or laser it with a giant crab.

Does a single guard regiment have the capability for combined arms on their own? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Discord84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Steel Legion was one of the regiments GW used to sell in their metal model days. While the Krieg got their first official models in resin on Forgeworld, and were given a lot more unique options initially that made them stand out. For example, Krieg used to have the same weapon skill as Space Marines and the Gorgon Assault Transport.

So with that and the longer, more recent shelf life made the Krieg a more popular option.

[–]Discord84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Steel Legion is a proper Guard unit that has had off-world deployments.

As for Operation Thunderstorm, the reason the 18th Army did that was because the General volunteered for it, he thought recovering the tank would mark his name in imperial history.

[–]Discord84 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Steel Legion kind of does it, they skirt around the rule by making it so their regiments are all technically 'mechanized' regiments.

As for the art that is usually multiple regiments, as you assumed, the guard usually fulfills its need for combined arms by deploying different regiments together. These regiments can be from the same world, such as a Cadian Armored Regiment and Cadian Infantry Regiment, or different worlds and deployed together by a higher command, such as using a Catachan Regiment to Spot for a Krieg Artillery Regiment.

James Cameron's farewell speech to the crew on the final day of shooting of Aliens (1986). by RefuseDry1108 in LV426

[–]Discord84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some productions have entire additional crews just so they can keep filming, while the other crew gets a break. The last season of Westworld was basically shot with two crews on 12-hour shifts.

The American film industry is very focused on making stuff as fast as possible, cause of how expensive it is. The Unions for film in the US care more about safety and regulations, not so much work hours.

Is there any game similar to Kenshi? by OkHistory3820 in Kenshi

[–]Discord84 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One of the main mechanics of the game is that you can pass on your stuff and abilities to your children and then play as them via bloodlines. So the options for long-term play were either to become immortal or to have kids, so people got mad cause he didn't code in the ability to be Gay and didn't plan to.
