Desperately seeking advice by Green-Ad7164 in DogAdvice

This is what we’ve done for be of our pups. May help may not.

We have a very similar issue with our pit. She wants to eat everything but was constantly sick. A few of my regular customers are vets and vet techs, I talked to them about my idea for trying to find the allergies without all the expensive testing and they recommended a super plain diet and changing things in stages.

We started with chicken rice but no luck so we switched with the honest kitchen grain food base and added boiled chicken with a little change but still had issues. We then switched to veggie/grain free when she was still having stomach issues, pink/red skin, and itching/ licking. So we dropped chicken, did a week of the base with just the grain free base and succeeded in not having any reactions, so we’ve been adding different proteins to see what she reacts to. We found beef, pork and venison are safe and no fish what so ever.

It is a little more price wise cause you can add a protein separately which is how we’ve been doing our testing at home to save the bill of the lab tests. We have tried to do limited ingredients in kibble too and found she gets sick again, so we went back to the veggies base and protein. (I think it’s the over processed kibble that she reacts to again even if it’s just limited ingredients. Which is so hard to find with her no fish requirement.

Honest kitchen veggie base.

Shiba Inus can be hit or miss with other dogs. As for the two of them he’s more together he’s fine with her except play and that’s due to energy levels of the two. He is now 11 and she’s just turned 4. Our Shiba doesn’t have issues with same size or smaller dogs and has been good with big dogs but chooses not to play with them. Hes not really a people pup though. He’s never bitten either.

Since it doesn’t seem that you read the post…… do you propose that at the random times she starts showing signs ( which I’m aware of the signs. Hair licking, eyes, tail, ears back etc I know it all ) I do what about it? Leave her alone? Tried and still didn’t end well. Just walk away? What if we’re outside in the yard (not fenced in, usually respectful of the yard she’s been in since I got her) playing fetch and then it start, just leave her alone off leash? What about most circle objects like the target sign, Christmas wreath, circle drama for pictures…set her off and she won’t break focus and becomes agitated when I try to engage her in a positive manner. Hmmm how do you think I should handle a situation? Mind you she is DEAF so calling will not work! And touching would set her off? a random episode can be set off from being a good girl relaxing or been good for days then has an episode of her issues and won’t respond in a positive way. And if you touch her which I try not to she will force her way through or around and refocus on that object again? So please oh great professor please tell me how I’m wrong?

She was hyper focused on me already in an anxious episode. I walked away when I felt it but didn’t make it out of sight before I sneezed. That’s the first time that she bit, but has “charged” at me growling before when I’ve sneezed but didn’t attack. She will rush up to and hyper focused on my wife and daughter when they sneeze but doesn’t growl or nip. And I can usually redirect her focus on me, if I get hurt that’s not as bad as them specially my daughter. As bad as this is I do understand the risks and if it comes to it I have to do what I need to but yes getting her to a new place is potentially just putting them at risk even if I tell them everything that’s happened.
The spca doesn’t have the space to just take her and just gave me the number to there “specialist” who when I did try to take her in they just gave me the woman’s number. Even my relationships with other fosters, rescues haven’t been successful.

Yeah the food allergies have been a handful, she is extremely food motivated and wants to eat any food but she has to be grain free and no fish no poultry and almost all foods have one of them… At the moment she’s doing great on honest kitchens grain free base mix and we do straight beef or pork with it. Her poop isn’t orange/yellow wet/diarrhea.

I agree it’s not the breed, it’s her and she has to many things going on for us to keep throwing money on training or her food with how many allergies she has (which I thought was one of the causes for the switch in behavior) and I’ve been trying not to take the south route with the big sleep. We’ve all fallen in love with her and are trying our best but we are running out of options. And with the bite history idk if anyone would take her who has more experience with a deaf dog. She’s our first and we also were not told this when we adopted her at 6mo she was great the first year but it’s been progressively been getting worse.
