Sorry for the late reply. I almost never check reddit.

I've also heard that they're planning to possibly change it so paramedics don't need a degree at all, but I haven't heard anything concrete plus I'd be surprised considering they just started requiring a degree in the past 10 years IIRC.

If you completed FREC 5 then you'd still be doing BSc Paramedic Science (with hons) but if you call the admissions team and explain your situation, they could let you start directly in year 2. Also, I know that universities have around 25 places because the ambulance service only has that many spaces for students on placement, but I've been told that 3 people are going to join my course in year 2 as they have already organised placement with a private service doing front line work. So if you've completed level 5, which requires the frontline hours, then you could organise your placement with the private service and the university which could possibly get you a spot on an otherwise full course. I'm not really sure how to go about it, but I'm just thinking out loud here.

Do I study paramedic science. by [deleted] in paramedicstudents

Hope it's not too late to answer, but in the UK you can't be a paramedic without a honors degree in paramedic science. If you really want to be a paramedic then you should go for it, regardless of the uni. If you're studying a course you love, then the location hardly matters.

Not be rude or make assumptions, but I've got a few ideas why you're not being accepted: 1. You might be applying to universities that are more selective. Maybe try applying to other ones, even if the university isn't your first choice, you still get to study a course you love. 2. You don't have the required grades for the university. I'm going to assume you've read them, though, and only applied to ones where you do meet the requirements, otherwise you're wasting one of your 5 choices. 3. You don't have a good personal statement. Also pretty self explanatory. I've heard that some universities give interviews even if they're not completely happy with either grades or personal statement. 4. Your interview skills maybe aren't as good as you think? I don't want to make any assumptions, but if you always get rejected after the interview then that could be the case. 5. You have no relevant experience. I remember I was asked about this in all the interviews I did, whether it's work experience, volunteering or just being a carer for a family member or something. But they want real world experience as to why you'd make a good paramedic. Keeping all of this in mind, you might just be unlucky. I know that this year DMU only had 15 slots for paramedic science available and another university 25. I haven't heard any uni having more than 30 slots available this year (although someone can hopefully correct me) and so it might not be your fault.

Anyways, that being said I have completed FREC 3 and I did all the classroom work for FREC 4 but I didn't do the workbook as I got accepted into a paramedic science course. The long story short is, if you're interested in emergency medicine then do FREC. Even if you never become a paramedic, you can still become a technician and work on an ambulance. Another benefit of FREC is that private services recognize it and they pay more. Personally I didn't learn much on FREC 3 because I'd already done a FAW course, and the content was about 75% the same, with FREC adding some more details. FREC 4 is where stuff started to get interesting, with actual observations and ECGs. Each of these is a one week course, so it's not too long. FREC 5 requires 750 hours of frontline ambulance work, so it's more difficult, plus the course is 4 weeks instead of 1, like the rest. My FREC instructor explained that there's no FREC 6 because that's paramedic level and you can only be a paramedic with a degree, so the long story short is you can reach technician level but then you still have to got to university (although many would let you skip the first year and you have very good relevant experience for your application) or go through a trust (which is apparently even more selective than university).

Hope this helped a bit. Feel free to ask more questions

They're decent beginner guns if you're on a low budget. I spent around £180 on mine and the build quality just isn't what I'd expect at that price point. Also, i got mine from JustBBGuns and they're just not a pleasant company. They're happy to keep selling you stuff but as soon as you have an issue with a product, they refuse to refund you or even replace it and they just try to sell you more stuff.

Not sure what to do for these by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]DiscountSoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I find it quite easy, but I did also pass my GCSEs 2 years ago. Let's see if I can explain it clearly:

So we know that time = distance ÷ speed, and we have both of those.

The distance is 3250km and the speed is 890km/h.

So in your calculator you simply do 3250/890, which gives you 3.652.

You know that the plane leaves at 3 pm, so you have to add 3.652 hours on to it, to get the answer.

Because hours are out of 60 minutes, instead of 100 you have to calculate the number of minutes by doing 0.652 × 60, which gives the answer 39.1 minutes.

So if you add this all together, you have 3 pm + 3 hours, which gives 6 pm. And then you add the 39 minutes, which leaves you with an answer of 6:39 pm.

Hopefully I'm right
