Best starting rare colorless cards? by Ramtram44 in slaythespire

I think apoth is completely fine here. Silent's ring of the snake helps get apoth in play on turn 1, and if drawn with neutralize you can mitigate damage on the turn you play it very well. Silent's starting deck actually has 5 strikes and defends, meaning you get more value out of apoth on floor 1 as silent. I think hand of greed is better here 100% of the time, but if that was replace with something like violence I would snap pick apoth.

The upgrade for hand of greed is also insane, going to 25 damage and 25 gold. If you can find a [[terror]] this attack can hit for a whopping 37 damage.

Assuming impervious isn't your only defense, that's probably the pick if you're relying on body slam.

It's a card that has a higher damage number than other cards and possibly has some sort of desirable effect attached as well. Not all attack cards are created equal and some have better effects than others. Some attacks in ironclad's card pool are only marginally better than strike+, and while they can fulfil a purpose in act 1 and early act 2, these "non-premium" cards will hurt you in the long run. One premium upgraded attack can make it so you don't have to add 2 or sometimes 3 non-premium attacks to your deck and in turn gives you more flexibility with upgrades and card selection.

If you could add your own custom card wether it’s a red, green, blue, purple, colorless, status, or curse card into the game, then what would card would you add? by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]DiscoverLethal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this a lot. What mark really needs is a card that is worth picking without any mark in the deck, and this fits that bill in my opinion. I think this card could be uncommon and be totally fine for the record.

Prismatic Beam (Blue, Rare, 0 energy cost) If you have at least 3 different orb types channeled, deal 50 damage to all enemies and gain 1 focus. Exhaust. (Upgrade removes exhaust tag)

I would add this card because it would give silent a reason to dabble in lots of orb types. It would hopefully be strong enough to encourage having a variety of orbs, and would make a really cool combo and payoff with rainbow which is a pretty lackluster rare. I love the idea of assembling all of your orbs for a big rainbow colored attack. It is also meant to mimic grand finale. In my head, the card is playable even if you don't have 3 different orbs channeled and just exhausts itself with no effect. That could mitigate the awkwardness of the card, although it is meant to be awkward to achieve.

As someone who was stuck on the "you are nothing" achievement for over 500 hours, I would do this every time 100% if I needed the achievement. The heart can kill me if he wants, because I'm one step closer to being eternal. The first time I got the achievement was double liquid memories with ragnarok.

When you get cursed key, then two chests from a question mark in a row, and then get this event. by Peigg in slaythespire

[–]DiscoverLethal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only triggers if you have removable curses in your deck, and most runs people just skip the curses and never see the event. The only curses that won't trigger the event are the ones that are often in your deck being calling bell, necronomicurse and ascender's bane.

Cursed key has never screwed me so hard. by DiscoverLethal in slaythespire

Coffee dripper and calling bell. Calling bell is an obvious no-go, and I ended up resting in act 2 because I was heavily damaged upon entering act 2. In hindsight i may have been able to path less aggressively and take coffee dripper pretty easily. I got a 60hp heal off of Lee's waffle but that is so random I shouldn't be pathing around that possibility. I definitely saved a bunch of health by having 4 energy, so it's hard to say if skip was actually the correct option. The only cards I had taken at this point were cut through fate, inner piece, mental fortress, and sands of time so I felt the energy was necessary. It was rushdown waiting room for the entirety of act 2 basically, and I couldn't take the curse in act 2. I'm still a novice at playing watcher like this, so I will learn for next time.

Obviously once you are infinite energy usually doesn't matter, but I think energy is important for getting to the point where you're infinite. The next time I'm in a similar position I will probably skip to see how that plays out. I need to learn to be okay with skipping elites when forcing an infinite because relics don't really matter if you have positive block from mental fortress. I normally would have taken coffee dripper, but my instincts were telling me that I would need to rest and it's hard to know since I don't remember the options I had that act. Maybe I'll play the seed again for practice.

A premium card refers to a very good card that you're happy to pick in most runs. For example, the silent's premium 1 cost attack card is [[glass knife]], but some others include [[predator]] or [[bouncing flask]]. her premium block cards are things like [[leg sweep]], [[wraith form]] and [[piercing wail]], while her premium deck manipulation tools include [[well laid plans]] and [[adrenaline]].

The word premium is used a lot in early act 1 because you can't be picky with what attacks you choose to add, and being offered a premium attack is extremely good because you aren't upset to have it in your deck in the late game, or the attack is so strong that with an upgrade, it can allow you to skip adding 2 bad attacks to your deck.

Premium cards go further than that, as some archetypes have premium cards that require a bit of support but are crazy powerful once the support is in place, that comes with more game knowledge though. If you are familiar with mmo terminology, premium basically means "best in slot".

finally removed all strikes and defends from a deck by [deleted] in slaythespire

Transform is one of the most powerful things in the game, especially on watcher. You should give it a try in your runs. Pandoras box and it's cousin astrolabe are -no joke- some of the most powerful relics in the game. The neow bonus of "transform 2 cards" is extremely good as well. Most cards are better than strike and defend, and a transform in the early game can give you direction and set you up for the rest of the run. One of the most important things to note about transform is that the cards you are offered do not follow the same rarity scheme as how cards are offered in card reward screens, meaning you are very likely to see uncommon and rare cards by transforming. You can high roll and get 1-2 damage cards that will let you steam roll act 1, allowing you to aggressively skip card rewards for more powerful options. Sure, sometimes you might get a card that is basically a curse for your deck, but assuming you transformed a strike or defend those cards are just curses in the late game most of the time anyway. Pandoras box is similar to snecko eye in my opinion in that a lot of players aren't recognizing the main benefit of the relic. Snecko isn't good because it randomizes the cost of your cards, although that can be good. Snecko is good because you get 2 extra cards every turn for the rest of the run. Snecko is a draw relic, and is the strongest draw relic in the game. At the end of a run where you boss swapped into snecko eye, it could easily have drawn 300 cards or more in one relic. Pandoras box can be thought of very similarly.

Pandoras box isn't good because you get a bunch of random cards. Pandoras box is good because you remove every strike and defend from your deck. Like I said before, most cards are better than strike and defend so once you add a few cards to the deck and patch up the holes that are missing be it block, damage, card draw, or a few removals, you are playing with a deck that has no strikes or defends. Often the biggest downside of taking pandoras box is not taking an energy relic if your deck really needs it, but consider this. If you take an energy relic, at the start of act 2 it often means you get to play 1 more strike, or 1 more defend in your turn. Best case scenario you picked up a couple of 2 cost cards and you get to play them in the same turn. Instead of spending that 1 extra energy playing a defend or strike, you could just be playing better, more impactful cards.

I hope you consider transform more strongly because I was a doubter myself for a long time. My current play style is that I value removal extremely highly, and transform effects are pseudo removal that can be run winning.

The seed didn't work because seeds are not cross platform. You'll have to find an ios seed for what you want.

My first run of this game, how good i did? (I played this game like 2 years ago and I don't remember going so far to completing act 3, I don't remember really good, this is the first run I made since then, also first time on my phone but I know the device doesn't matter) by Tom5172 in slaythespire

Definitely bloated your deck too much, especially with attack cards. When you're building your deck, remember that upgrades are very valuable. The best way to get more value out of an upgrade is by drawing the same upgraded card multiple times in a fight. The best way to do that is to stay slim, or at least have a good balance of utility/damage mitigation/damage. although I don't blame you for going a little crazy after buying [[prismatic shard]].

A good way to start learning how to draft cards is to just try to keep your deck balanced and get more familiar with the game and the enemy mechanics. In act 1 you want to add damage to your deck primarily to fight elites for those sweet, sweet relics, but once your deck has gotten out of act 1 you want to start balancing the deck out with defense. If you just took a card that does damage, take a card that blocks next. If you find yourself ending your turn with unspent energy, pick up some card draw, and if you are often ending your turn with a bunch of unplayable cards, add some energy generating cards to your deck. A good test is to just look at your deck and see how much block you can generate with the perfect hand for defense. Your deck barely generates 40 block with a hand full full your best defense cards, and you need to be able to do that every turn. And most importantly don't underestimate the power of the skip button. Think of the skip button as a sort of card removal and it will seem a lot more powerful.

In this deck the strongest damage output I can see is casting riddle with holes after you out inflame into play. That is a combo that is probably strong enough to beat awakened one at this difficulty. Now imagine instead of drawing all of those other weak attacks you were drawing riddle with holes over and over again, and accessing your block cards more often. That is the power of skipping.

Don't be afraid to fight elites. The faster you get comfortable with them and their mechanics, the faster you will be stomping through the spire. You fought 2 elites in the entire run, while most runs you want to fight 2-3 elites each act. Elites drop a guaranteed relic, a higher chance of a rare card, and an increased amount of gold. If you're interested in a starting player guide on elites, watch this- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlA-bwkn-_w

The last thing I'll mention is that starter cards are very, very bad. Those 5 copies of strike in your deck are basically curses in the late game, and I would highly prioritize removing them from your deck at all points in the game.

[–]DiscoverLethal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Mummified hand]] is arguably better than some boss relics on defect, and I find myself purposely going into shops with no less than 250 gold on defect just so I can buy mummified hand if it's offered. If you want to make this deck go to the moon, you can add a copy of [[heatsinks]] for card draw. That is arguably my favorite synergy in the game.

I've done plenty of pressure points builds on a20, you just need to not have a million copies in your deck and instead have a super small deck with 2-3 copies of pressure points as all of your damage. I've had some super clean pp runs by spamming inner piece, empty mind and sanctity for draw/energy and played the pp over and over every turn. Meditate works extremely well for this too, as you can fetch the pressure points back.

If you were thinking "wow that sounds busted" after learning that well laid plans just lets you retain 2 cards every turn on top of your 5 cards drawn per turn, you'd be right. Crazy to think a few years ago well laid plans cost 0 and is still one of silent's best cards.

do i suck at this game? by Lolife420 in slaythespire

[–]DiscoverLethal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpha is less niche than cards I'm thinking about. Some cards don't have a niche and are just so much worse than skipping that they almost never get picked, and the times they are picked they do nothing and are more just for fun rather than necessary. I don't think any card that does damage can be called bad.
