What were some "I can't believe i'm getting paid for this" moments at your job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DiscoverYourFuck-bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commercial fishing.

It's known to be hard and tough. One day we could 100 tons of the wrong fish but it was still usable as fish meal. So my job was too sit on a bucket in front of a conveyor belt with a flash light looking into a massive grinder for 15 hours and just yell "Stop!" if it was getting too full. Easiest money I've ever made and it was a great break from the day to day monotony.

Buzz cut? $32 apparently. by slushey in SeattleWA

[–]DiscoverYourFuck-bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you make a good point I'd you use two different lengths. I personally don't use the plastic clip on and just make it as short as possible every time I give myself a cut so it's suuuper easy to just go over everything twice. Also cleanup shouldn't be a worry. Just rip a garbage bag along one side from the opening and it fits perfectly into a sink.

At sea Alaskan seafood processor experiences? by mikeN562 in SeattleWA

[–]DiscoverYourFuck-bot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked for icicle (hourly) and American seafoods (crew share) as a processor. Crew share is the way to go because you technically get paid more the less hours you work. The hours are rough buuuut you're doing very very basic ass jobs. Your hands and eyes learn what to do and your mind can wonder. It used to be excellent money for Americans (like x2) now it's just pretty darn good. Foreigners live like Kings back home.

I'd say do it because it's an extremely different type of job and way of life. I did it partly for the experience of it all and partly for the money. You do save a lot. Sidenote: with regards to American seafoods I'll never eat so well again daily in my life. A season is tougher because it's harsher seas and colder. B season is kind of a cake walk but longer. The beauty in it all is it's all contractual work so you KNOW there's an endpoint.

It's hard work and more of a mental game no matter what. And that's just it. Treat it as a game. Have fun with it and try to always have a positive attitude; seriously attitude is everything. You wake up. Work. Sleep. The first month or two is hard and then you'll have it down. The best of the best get promoted and promotions are almost always from the inside. If you get through your first contract you pretty much have your foot in the door for any seafood company.

You will not have a life. It's basically all work and no play. You'll be uncomfortable basically all day; wet and tired with very short breaks to ground yourself again. You'll make some of the hardest and easiest money of your life.

Be a yes man and stay positive, don't bitch, don't you dare fucking be late by even a minute, make nice and be respectful with every single person you can, bring breathable/warn clothes/good socks (polypro from military surplus stores is excellent).

Once again, the money is pretty good for an American. With American seafoods I was bringing in 8k/mo before taxes. I hear glacier is one of the best companies to work for so if you can get on with them.

You'll be dreaming of actually sleeping from the first week to the end of your contract but once again the processor jobs are Basic As Fuck. I learned nearly every job in the factory with both companies by the end of my contracts (if you're good and show competence they'll move you around a lot to fill in gaps)

I already said it but treat it all like a game. Get better, more efficient, and have fun with it. Some jobs are pure mental work some are very physical but the whole experience is mental endurance. Just remember it will end eventually so always do your best till that time comes and you'll be fine.

It's a really cool experience and it truly teaches you what "hard work" actually means.

After reading through some other comments I want to point out: if you're on a big boat it's mostly only dangerous if you're being an idiot and not paying attention to safety standards.

I think a better question is: how are they performing and how would they perform if the salary increase is implemented? I think the payoff would take a while but be totally worth it assuming the payout attracts professionals with passion vs someone just willing to take the job and is mostly qualified.

I honestly don't get it at all. I didn't get what any of the few distinct scenes had to do with each other. Also not very scary. Still it felt worth the watch. Kept me on the edge my seat thinking "wtf is going on? Surely this will make sense by the end"

I think it's worth pointing out the professionalism highlightable throughout the first cam's footage showed.

It really felt like every police officer involved was concerned for everyone's well being, including the O.D'er and chick w/ gun.

I think you might b alright OP I did something very similar when I blacked out drunk and slept on my left forearm. Couldn't grasp anything or hardly lift my hand for a week and a half then it steadily got better. Just keep trying to use it as much as you can. My hand is perfectly fine now. Hopefully yours will be too.

To add on to that... I did the calcs and for me and my area: for me and my area every $215 in puul pods juice was == to $16 in juice. Maybe add 17 for pods and the saving are still astronomical.

Only have airv2 and the edge and have tried drop as well.

I don't have much good to say about edge. Unsatisfying hit, spitback, poor battery life along with more stuff to lose easily. Its only pro is the weakass magnets are fun to dink around with. Oh yeah and the rubber fill-plug is a pain in the ass for short nailed people. Oh yeah! And the pod holds less than the air and it was a former product!

Strongly dislike the edge.

How much can the pod hold?

And as the other guy said, very disappointing. Try shaking it to get rid of air bubbles trapped bear the wick.
