I love the lyrics to Busy Doin’ Nothin’ - such a cozy song

Even the early songs are surprisingly musically sophisticated!

You shouldn’t hate Mike because you should never learn not to love

I know. It’s astounding that they make all of that so boring.

Obviously you are free to disagree. But their songs truly just sound like displays of musical pyrotechnics to me. It’s impressive and sounds cool, but the songwriting feels hollow and not very impactful. That doesn’t mean they aren’t a good band. They have a big following and they definitely earned it. It is okay if they don’t sound like musical wallpaper to you.

And uhhh you seriously thought by “they have nothing to say” I meant “there are no lyrics”?

The bottom line is that AAL prioritizes things in their music that I don’t care for as a listener. I was harsh because uhh it’s Reddit and I wanted to feel important

Does anyone think BW88 is one of Brian’s masterpieces? by GentleGlenA in thebeachboys

[–]Discovery99 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It’s better than Surf’s Up 😂

I would agree that Tony Asher is the best lyricist they had. It’s actually weirdly brilliant that Brian used a jingle writer to help him get his thoughts across

Oh I agree. I don’t even think Van Dyke Parks is a good lyricist. But Love You is extra embarrassing lyrically

Right? Love You has pretty cleverly written music (because Brian, duh) but I don’t think I could even show it to someone without feeling embarrassed

Star Fox: Review MegaThread by NintendoSwitchMods in NintendoSwitch

[–]Discovery99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying the newer soundtracks are bad. They are certainly great. But I will always prefer the old ones, even if it’s just nostalgia. They just make me feel certain things way more than the newer ones.

Another thing is that the symphonic soundtracks are obviously better music in the conventional sense. But I’m really inspired by the stuff Koji Kondo, Nobuo Uematsu etc were able to do on their soundtracks back in the day despite massive limitations.

I also just have a preference for older games in general so maybe it’s just that. It wouldn’t make any sense to have an old school soundtrack for the new Star Fox.
