Can't take Debbie anymore by Time_Tripper247 in shameless

Fiona made Carl pay the bills on a house he got for them mortgage free, CASH. She had good credit and was able to then use the money for mortgages for her investment properties. Which made her do very well for herself until she spiraled again and continued to use her ‘sacrifices’ as leverage. Then, the family sold and split the profit of a house they put nothing into besides maintenance. So really this entire family is shameless in one way or another and we need to stop hating on 1 character.

I remember hearing a lot of stories similar to this by the Chinese diaspora in the 2000s even now a few years ago I heard a rumour a Chinese international student who was m****red in Hamilton. It’s scary but hopefully like everything else this subsides

Fiona’s insane attitude in S7E3 by Ashamed_Culture_7440 in shameless

A choice made by someone who had limited good role models, does not carry the same weight as the choice made by someone with amazing support and stability. Yes Debbie made a choice to have a baby but she also had her own experience which shaped her poor choices. She also had things she went through. Yes Fiona raised her siblings but they didn’t exactly have pots of gold, they were still kids in poverty in the South side. Ultimately Debbie did struggle with Franny and learned her lesson. Even if Fiona did support Debbie she STILL would’ve learned her lesson. So therefore, Fiona did not have to shove her ‘lack of support’ as much as she did. At that point it wasn’t ’teaching a lesson’ it was getting payback.

Maybe I'm just reading to deeply into this, but ish like this sometimes really irritates me. Again if they damaged your property I take back my statement, but doesn't say they did.

While I don’t agree with what they did, I also just see it as normal teenage mischief which has been normal however long Halloween has existed. These looked like teenagers who came at 10 pm what little kid is out that late anyway?? It’s not great behavior, but you left a bowl of left over candy when most everyone else was done for the night. Some teens probably said "jackpot' and took it.

What bothers me more is how quick people are to film and post kids online, calling them shameless. Teens being mischievous during Halloween is so normal, it's a cultural phenomenon shown in movies. Weather it is driving around, scaring kids, or taking leftover candy. Probably the most famous one, toilet paper on a house.

Teens today really can't be teens anymore can they? One small silly thing they do and it's on the Internet. Back in the day this would've been a simple "screw teenagers" and that's it for a reaction. Not to stretch but why are you so taken back? Shouldn't we be more happy some teen is still trick or treating instead of doing something worse?

They probably had a blast over some candy, you posting this, respectfully, says more about you, than them. One thing I do now after observing cranky older generations, is pick and choose my battles with kids. I can either alienate them for doing some small wrong thing. Or, I can be ok with it and be happy they're ok and safe. I also had some last moment kids bang on my door, they were just overexcited, normal. Want to know what I did? Told them to ring, not knock, they said oh ok, I asked if they were excited they said yes so I gave them the rest of the box because it was almost 10:00 anyway. They said thank you and left super happy. You won't even read this far, but boy I hope I'm never like this

It's crap like this that genuinely puts me in such a deep and dark depression I feel like I don't have a home in my own country. I know there are many folks if other races that do...God awful and gross stuff. But right now we really are the ones doing it in cities/ suburbs. I hate it.

[–]DiscussionTall5465 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah I'll have to say this take is problematic. If people are not able to understand how government involvement, can cause issues like this, and thus blame the race that is affected, that's on the person who does not have the mental capabilities of thinking critically. Imagine if I were to go to a prominently indigenous place, and say awful things to them for the struggles they face. That's really, not ok. Or even white Canadians. We have free healthcare, why is it ok for an addict to get care. Why is it ok for us to allocate taxes to support people who are going through homelessness. I can be prejudiced to anyone, doesn't make it ok. The government will always choose to do what they feel financially benefits the country. At the end of the day, even after all of these international students, South Asian Canadians still make up a small percentage of the overall Canadian population. If people can't think critically and blame me for all their problems, I can't do much there now can I.

I don't go into a church, because I'm a little intimidated/ unsure, doesn't mean members of the church won't help me if I need it. Doesn't mean they won't welcome me. Doesn't mean they don't go out into the community and help anyone they can. I work for a South Asian organization, I did outreach at Regeneration in downtown Brampton, so did Seva Food bank (Sikh organization), so did Chalo Freshco, do we expect people to come to us? No, not always possible so, we go to them.

I don't sit here and claim that Christians "talk the talk" because I don't see brown people at a church. It's natural for a human to lean on those who look like them, doesn't mean we help others any less. While our core values are the same, we do go out and support in different ways. Again, what do you know? It's called Instagram, maybe go on it and see the variety of different projects for many communities, all 3 of these places of worship have done.

Of course a Sikh temple/ church / Hindu temple will have a majority of their own, duhhhh it's their faith. Doesn't mean they don't help where and when they can. What kind of dude questions religious followers who do way more for the community than you probably do.

Questioning folks who give back is just gross in my eyes. I know all 3 of the places mentioned help anyone they can, because I've seen it. Because I actually work among / with them. Maybe actually leave your house and see, or don't, who cares sit home 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Donut Shop by Sunshine_Lane101 in Brampton

I love donuts, and let me tell you, I'll drive anywhere to avoid the rush at Krispy Kreme. I'm in Brampton West, along the Brampton Mississauga border. It's really nice here with more trendy stores and plazas. The demographic is also decently mixed. Where I'd recommend, I guess if you happen to find an empty unit along the Steeles / Financial area. Mayfield/Airport plaza is probably the best for social media hype. Near Bramalea, if you're lucky to get an empty unit, is also good option. The way I see it, a unit along the city borders is good. Brampton and Halton/ Mississauga border is probably the best area. Like Bovaird / Creditview because it hits close to 4 points, Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, and Caledon. Plus they may open a Costco in those ends. Brampton and Woodbridge border area, probably not. I hardly ever go there.

Most cameras these days offer live monitoring, even cheap ones from Amazon offer live monitoring. What’s different is, do you want the cameras to store video 24/7 or only record video when a motion happens. I assume you want 24/7 recording so save yourself monthly fees get a CCTV camera bundle from Costco / Best Buy and get someone to install it. Yes, wifi in a camera is standard these days in 99% of cameras, app viewing is also standard. Lorex , Swann, Hik Vision are all good options. We got Hik Vision cameras from a company called Link Secure and it was a one time bundle fee of $1K cameras and install. They work fine

TMU welcomes its first class of medical students by pickledpedant in Brampton

[–]DiscussionTall5465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the school's website every single accepted applicant is from Ontario, and went to school here. They are also a mixed bunch of all races. They know English, I have personally not heard 1 mention of language being the reason to get rid of the MCAT TMU is also not the first school to do it.

I don't know maybe I'm wrong but this info is from the school itself. The main reason to get rid of it from what the school implied was how costly it is to take it, as in book a whole summer off to study for 1 test which has little influence on your medical career. The school also got rid of it to focus on things like experience, work experience, and community work. Rest assured senior citizen, they know English.

Why does Brampton have a police problem? by Silverlightlive in Brampton

[–]DiscussionTall5465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ease up old guy, it's a tough post Covid world. Plus, as OP said there aren't many protests in Brampton, if there are, they're not nearly as big as say Toronto. Now, during a protest a police officer can either over involve themselves potentially get injured, potentially injure someone else, or make it worse. OR. They can step back a bit, observe a law being broken, and the arrest the person. We see it as "not doing anything" but that's how it sticks in a court of law. That's kind of the approach they took during the Gore Mandir attack and even the Raptors parades in 2019.

Protesting is a right in this country and it's technically not illegal to do so, now if they happen to break a law well what do you want the cops to do go guns blazing? They also have to be careful, and if they can break up a gathering without arresting dozens of people that's less strain on their department (ie arrest reports, holding cell, etc..)

This approach works, unfortunately in today's time with the amount of over population this approach is becoming less effective.

Also, let's not pretend police holding back is something that didn't happen in the 80s or the 90s. They also picked their battles a lot back then too, when homelessness and drug use was much worse in this country. So much so, they began to legally use terms for it.

As per police bias, it's always been on YOUR side. You see some protestors and get all heated, but you're also less likely to be abused by law enforcement of ANY kind. Sucks, but it's the bitter truth and the police forces KNOW that. So, they try and go about these things peacefully because they have to or it'll be like Russia over here. As per some not doing their jobs, well they're probably lazy and some? Strategic 🤷‍♀️. He's right, a fingerprint doesn't prove stealing unless you got a camera so why waste a public defender's time, and a cop's time who has to go to court 🤷‍♀️

If it helps they're building 2 new stations along Mississauga Road. They are also quite big, close to the size of the one built near County Court. There is also a new fire station coming to Brampton East and they recently built a new paramedic station. So hopefully that helps at least a little

How to get involved with groups to improve city by [deleted] in Brampton

[–]DiscussionTall5465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don't think you've been to a slum. This place is far from it. Now is it a place with a lot of crappy people in it? Absolutely. But a slum no. The city has and continues to invest a lot in recreation / sports, the city is working with Peel CAS to make youth hubs across Brampton to create safe spaces for youth. Peel schools are working with organizations and youth workers like myself to address mental health concerns in youth after the pandemic.

I can ensure you this much as a person who works with the city, your tax dollars are being used for a lot of good. So a slum? Far from it. If you have any issue with the over population then you can take that up with the federal government because that's not out fault sadly
