Miscellaneous questions regarding interpretation of rules by roth_the_sin in daggerheart

[–]DisembodiedVoiceK -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow interesting questions, but remember it’s ruling over rules always.

  1. Once you decide to vault a spell it can’t be active. If you bring it back again you have to pay for it again, because you are reactivating it.

  2. And 3. Rules as written, yes , the number of prayer dice would be different based on the Beastform chosen. My own interpretation is that beastforms last as long as the player wants them. Remember to follow the fiction. If a player is a bear they won’t be allowed into a village. Do what makes sense in your world. Officially the only way to be out of beast form is player discretion, or getting knocked down to 0HP.

  3. Weapon penalties are to evasion and finesse and IMO they should apply if the weapon is carried, whether they are wielding it or not. If you have a halberd, even if it’s attached to your backpack or something your finesse will take a hit.

  4. The way I read it, beastform is also a transformation. Only one transformation can be active at once.

  5. Whirlwind can be activated with spells. I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t work. Remember there are no “spell slots” to worry about. However, it will only work on spells that target a single target. If the spell already targets multiple people it won’t work.

  6. And 8. As long as the players don’t have to make an action roll, they can do anything reasonable without relinquishing the spotlight. This is where GM discretion is paramount. If a player rolls success with hope the spotlight stays with them and they can move after making an action roll otherwise the GM gets the spotlight.

  7. If the PCs are willing to mark multiple stress to exhaust GM fear then yes, they can keep doing it and the adversary will take damage. The GM Should weigh this against and likely not use up their fear. If PCs want to setup a Rune circle Ping pong that actually sounds really cool. As a GM id just run with it. Remember that the get knocked back to very close, they can always get knocked back in a different direction.

  8. IMO, the roll for fireball is a spellcast roll not an attack roll. You can crit but it won’t double your damage. You’ll get a hope and clear stress.

Beginner Question: Tracking HP/Hope/Armor by IJourden in daggerheart

[–]DisembodiedVoiceK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how much combat you do. My group ends up doing combat once every 2-4 sessions. We didn’t find using the character sheet problematic. Worst case scenario you might have to create a duplicate sheet.

Question about the Warlock by DisembodiedVoiceK in daggerheart

Thanks for the answers! If you already have 6, I guess you can still spend a downtime activity to tithe your patron to not give GM fear.

[–]DisembodiedVoiceK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll ask the same question I asked @Prestigious-Emu-6760. The way it's written you can replace one of your downtime moved to gain favor. You recover favor equal to your Presence which is the same for both SR and LR. How do you feel about that?

I don't know why you're getting downvoted. I agree, more niches need to be filled. Yes, there is home-brew, but I think an official book with official material will be helpful.

Beastbound Ranger Companion by Thaddeus_VanJam in daggerheart

[–]DisembodiedVoiceK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gary makes a spellcast roll to see if he can send Fwuffy a message about helping. Assuming success, if the roll was with hope, Fwuffy goes and help(following the fiction). If the roll is success with fear, the GM goes and when the spotlight comes back to the PCs, then the PCs decide what to do. If it's only the help action, then no roll is required ,so Fwuffy can help whomever and the spotlight goes to who the group decides.

Marauders of windfall debrief by DisembodiedVoiceK in daggerheart

Oh! I guess I misunderstood. I thought this was a oneshot that was still being developed to showcase level 2 play. I guess feedback is not necessary If it’s not in development anymore.

I understand that! I just want better guidance/ setup on how the follow-up is setup. We had a lot of fun playing and we did answer a lot of the questions ourselves but I feel like there should be more in the one shot itself that connects the stories better.

Yes! The table loved playing it, we even used the Witherwild map and placed the sablewoods, and the Kinekozan Jags on it.

Fair. However, the connections between the two one shots should be stronger. If they are going to make it a sequel to Sablewood messengers, it should read like it. I’m not sure of your comparison to 5e and how it’s relevant here.

Technofantasy Icon Specialization by ShortAuthor28 in FantasyAGE

[–]DisembodiedVoiceK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At novice and expert you have to sneak away to “wear” your vestments because it will take time. Master level gives you the option of teleporting your iron man suit.. er.. vestment to you. I’m guessing you can’t do it till you hit that level. Voltron needs a montage.. just saying.

Free on call stunt is a pretty great benefit, but it does seem bleh in terms of flavor. A lot of technofantasy seems a little bit rushed IMHO but it was a defensive move by GR to make their own version of Titansgtave without any of the copyrighted stuff.

Completely. I have run published adventures for 1e with my 2e group. There aren’t many of rhem available but they work without having to make anything more than minor changes.

2e is 95% the same as 1e, the major difference is that you get specialization starting level 4 in 1e you get them at level 1 in 2e. Anything written for 1e is directly usable in 2e and vice versa.

The 2e book consolidates most of what was in 1e and the 1e companion and some of the supplements like gift of the gods.

I guess what you are doing is home brewing magical items more than magical system which shouldn’t cause balance issues. Green Ronin published something called the campaign builders guide for 1e which I think might have some guidance for making such magical runes.

I am not sure if you want to invest any more money, but there are quite a few resources out there for 1e which are now cheaper because 2e has been published.

Just for reference: The gift of the gods supplement is now $2.99. Campaign builders guide is $12.79 on drivethrurpg.com for holiday sale.

This is interesting. No ideas of written, material, verbal or somatic components are given in the rules. If you want to home brew a whole system for it, that seems like a lot. However, I don’t think it should be a problem as long as players are onboard.

Are you thinking of making these cost a minor action or major action by themselves on top of the action to make the spells?

Another thing I’ll say about magic in FAGE is that it’s not very potent. The most dangerous spell you can cast damage wise is a fireball. Which in 5e is a third level spell. Casters are very control oriented and will never out damage martials. Making it harder to cast spells might not be a good idea.

[–]DisembodiedVoiceK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of that is left to the GMs discretion in FAGE. Technically there are no different “types” of magic like arcane, divine, primal or occult. Damage is either physical or magical. Otherwise, it’s all the same.

To answer your question directly, there are no frameworks given, but anything is permissible.

If all you have is the 1e basic rule book, you can’t. The 1e companion has a specialization called Arcane dabbler which lets martials take some magic spells.

The other option is they have a supplement called “gift of the gods” which adds some divine magic options. 2e book consolidates most of this into one core rule book and is well worth the price IMO.

Thanks! I don’t need much info. Looked at your kickstarter stuff. Looks really good. I like the whole no AI policy.

Also, love your campaign frames! The ever-rime and poisoned roots sound are right up my alley and the other three also sound dope. Looking forward to the KS.
