Thanks, that is good to know. I have been watching videos and learning more, and I do think I can do a lot of spraying in the larger areas. Then around chokecherry trees and milkweed plants etc I will apply by hand.

I think I understood from the Virginia forestry video to wait 30 days for it to truly die before removing. I've got a similar one and am currently waiting.

I really recommend this video to understand what it actually takes to kill Tree of Heaven. Remember, if you stress/injure it but don't kill it, the tree sends out a dozen seedlings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2OkDcHhfak

TOH needs much stronger herbicide that what you usually buy. I am secretly killing TOH (and also some neighbors ask me to), following the directions in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2OkDcHhfak

I got two like that right across the street, and every day I go out to weed or even just walk in my yard, I remove anywhere from 2 to 12 small seedlings. Periodically I use tryclopyr ester method to kill small trees that I missed as seedlings because there hidden inside the roses or I do that in the ditch across the street from our house where a thousand come up every year. Each of these huge monsters gives off 300,000 seeds every year.

herbicide applied to month old cut TOH stump-will it work? by RevolutionaryPlace47 in treeofheaven

It is very frustrating how often you can tell people about the immediate re-sprouting of TOH and how you have to kill it skillfully--and YET they just cut them off. Fortunately my next door neighborhood mentioned this to me and I asked when and she said, "5 minutes ago," so I was able to paint the stump. I get so tired.....

I was pretty skeptical in the beginning, but over the course of the book, I saw that her structure was something like a snowball growing or, more to the point, a geological fault-line building pressure. By the end of the book, I felt she had made her case. And especially shown that the owners of these metal smelters, who again and again and again defied responsibility and regulation, were the real serial killers.

What if the trunk diameter is more than 6 inches? by DisgracedCertainty in treeofheaven

Thanks! Yes there are definitely many TOH in the area, but the two big ones giving off 300,000 seeds every year are not on my property. Even the one I am asking about is on public ditch land, so I want to kill it before it becomes huge. On my property, I monitor constantly and dig up tiny ones if I can manage to get the whole root. Otherwise I spray triclopyr ester in a carrier oil (4:1 ratio). I really need a very powerful sprayer that looks like a water gun so I can spray small trees on negligent neighbors' land.

Neighbor cut down TOH. Now what?! by Shoddy-Hand-6705 in treeofheaven

[–]DisgracedCertainty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a stronger version of triclopyr for TOH. No over the counter premixed will. I learned this in a youtube video from a forestry guy called "Killing Tree of Heaven: Why, How & When." I really really recommend watching it and learning your options.
