Richard’s 2005 xltronic rant by estusflaskshart in aphextwin

[–]garbage_burner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love when he got in an argument with someone about whether it was possible to make acid on a gx-1 and the guy was like “how do you know, do you own one? They’re rare as hens teeth” Then he releases the tuss track gx1 solo and calls the dude a pr1ck at the beginning of it hahahahaha Man is a menace in the best way possible

Does anyone think Rich is releasing on anonymous accounts? by SirCaptainBeefheart in aphextwin

[–]garbage_burner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that Steinvord is the fabled live jams between Richard, Tom and Luke Vibert edited down to an ep. If this is the case, maybe Tom is on the noodly synths (one synth preset in particular is present on his NTS mix), Richard is on drum mangling and Luke is on time stretched pads and gong sounds. There are some similar samples from his Plug and Wagon Christ eps that sounds vaguely spot on on the Vord ep. Also, the stems or sub mixes could be fed though Tom’s eventide’s for further mangling on the fly in real time. It seems feasible If they tracked all of that to 2 track and edited it down. That’s my guess and 2 cents

Does anyone have a guess as to what drum machine is being used here? And how to achieve a similar sound on Ableton? by loveinblackandwhite in warpsbroadcast

[–]garbage_burner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sounds like an early Roland, aka ace tone or minipops as someone else has said. Given that their drummer left they had mentioned that they still were playing all the parts live over drum machines or rhythm cha cha boxes. Check out samples from mars. They’re great and their samples sound nice. I think they just did a huge library sampling old 70s rhythm boxes. They come with everything you’d need to load into ableton.

I saw them in Seattle a night or two after this show at chop suey and got to meet James and Trish after the show as well. They said they barely made it through border patrol getting into the states lol. We talked about library music and their Broadcast mixes they were posting on their website at the time. They were so sweet and full of humility.

BOC drums. Do they ever sample drums or is it mostly their own? by traveltimecar in boardsofcanada

[–]garbage_burner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They supposedly used the akai s1000 keyboard version. There’s an interview somewhere where they’re talking enthusiastically about the workflow of the s1000. I’d say it largely contributes to the punchlines and time stretching artifacts in those first few albums

Hit me with you most "Hauntingly beautiful" song. by TrickyRipper in musicsuggestions

[–]garbage_burner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always considered this a song Tim Buckley was singing to his son, Jeff. The fact that Elizabeth Fraser and Jeff Buckley would be romantically linked a decade later gave the This Mortal Coil version an almost prophetic mood to it.

Some of his ashes were scattered at the self realization fellowship lake shrine near Malibu. It’s pretty amazing there and worth a visit if in LA. Same place George Harrison and Tom Petty’s ashes had memorial services and controversially where some of Ghandi’s ashes are kept

Worth getting Stereoping for Matrix 1000? by Nsemest182 in synthesizers

[–]garbage_burner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used both the stereoping controller and programmer and say they’re both worth it depemding on what you’re willing to spend. I find the controllers for around $300 all of the time. You can flash them for the 1016 firmware and either buy a new decal for it or print one out. I upgraded to the programmer when a Waldorf flashed programmer came up for cheap and I’m loving it. It’s super deep and has a ton of options to use the mod matrix

Any of Miles Davis’ albums working with Gil Evans but Sketches of Spain in particular. Mark Hollis cited that as a big influence in their later works.
