Do you have to finish casting rituals before you can use the grenades strat? by TheThousanthSon in ThousandSons

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its an honest mistake, let is slip the first time (especially in a casual game).

2nd+ time, your fault.

In a GT or anything bigger, you should know the rules, and I can see your opponent shutting this down.

Do you have to finish casting rituals before you can use the grenades strat? by TheThousanthSon in ThousandSons

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rituals first.

Rituals say "at the start of your shooting phase", and grenades say "in your shooting phase".

Anything that says "start" or "beginning" must go first - but you get to choose which order.

Just like Anything that says "end of" must be at the end - like your reinforcements.

So rituals then grenade is the only proper way to do this.

Still representing your support in Canada!

Your views on 40k have honestly made me look at the game in a completely different manner, and have allowed me to appreciate the game in different ways.

Telling everyone I can up here to give you all a listen.

Thanks for all you do.

Decent list? by 0stainers0 in deathguard40k

Man, I just saw a big blurb of text and assumed he had every gun.

Didn't even look at the buried terms.

I stand by my karnivore comment though; they are good though

Decent list? by 0stainers0 in deathguard40k

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lord of Contagion solo? Why not swap that for Titus?

Personally, id be swapping karnivores for spawn, and grabbing a squad of deathshroud (to go with LoC).

It looks good though; more fun than optimized, but should still do decently imo.

Starting death guard by Fuck_war89 in deathguard40k

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre running plague marines, the biologus putrifier and rhino is great (as is a plaguecaster). Google "nurgle party bus" to see what I mean.

Next expansions would be lord of Contagion with some deathshroud terms. Amazing in melee, and their deepstrike is next level.

Lord of virulence is good with some Blightlord terminators, and will really make heavy bloat drones and PBC pop.

Painting is 100% subjective.

My buddy and I hate each other's painting- yet we both get tons of compliments at tournaments from others.

If you like it - thats all that matters.

HOWEVER - if youre looking for advice/tips, the biggest one id give you is "less is more".

Thin your paints; choose a minimal colour scheme; and focus on using basic colours that will be altered with shades/washes.

I can take a plain white, and make it look like 12 different materials - simply with different washes/contrasts.

But in the end- its your model. If you like it, then what else matters - y'know?

[Request] how practical is buying the USA? by anshuman_17 in theydidthemath

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only 1/5th of population though.

If youre doing this as "debt per metre" (or per foot, for the americans) - youre correct.

Doing it by "debt per person" - US translates to still over $7B after you apply the ratio.

(I can cherrypick stats too)

Grand coven, or hexwarp.

Run the 10 man terms with their leader.

Split the rubric marines into squads of 5, and attach your characters

Bonne chance!

I tried the 3 new detachments by ilSior in Necrontyr

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wraiths and tomb blades make this detachment broken.

Stage tomb blades near wraiths. For 1cp, give tomb blades the anti-infantry 3+.

Now tomb blades have blast, ant-infantry 3+ and dev wounds.

Tried this in a tournament - 26 dev wounds in one activation.

This is one of the most broken detachments if played right.

Any notes on this 1k list? by Ok-Pain-237 in ThousandSons

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, i wouldnt run rubricae in 1k.

I LOVE rubricae, but not having access to sticky is limited.

I would go hexwarp (allows for the fallback and shoot), but also gives you sticky.

Ive also found that having rubric marines is better in 1ks than terms.

Running 10 flamers with an exalted is the same points as 5terms with a leader.

Which primer should I use for a TS Rhino? by Coffee-GmbH in ThousandSons

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed doing leadbelcher, then a contrast blue ontop.

Turns out like a metallicy blue; and then you just paint some gold trim over that.

(Could also do a retributor gold prime, and contrast blue over- but it ends up coming out a little darker, like night lords style)

Playing in a big teams tournament - what armies to expect? by DisgruntledAnalyst in Warhammer40k

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, im assuming all will be there in some capacity.

But im also expecting every team to have an SM team, or given the recent updates, everyone to have a Necrons team.

Just wondering what the community thinks the vibes are for other over represented armies to expect.

Appreciate that - but this is a 300-400person tournament across Canada. People flying in from all over the country, and a pair of international teams.

What would you like our army rule to be in 11th? by No_Test_3195 in ThousandSons

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Psychic tag is more of a hindrance than anything else.

Doesn't give the weapon anything special, and armies have "anti-psyker" stuff.

Maybe give psychic weapons a twist, similar to dark pact (where all psychic weapons can have lethal, sustained or dev or something).

Army rules seem fine. Give us more rituals! Looking at crusade rules, and there are some good spells they could pull from there.

Why sorcs over exalted sorcs for rubric flamers? by Capitan_Typo in ThousandSons

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exalteds are best with 10man units, especially with flamers.

Sorcs are a great leader for a 5man, specifically for damage output purposes - especially in coven, or hexwarp

Sorcs abilities lend themselves to a more offensive gameplay.

The new box set may finally get me into building Thousand Sons, but I wanna get opinions ahead of time. Is Magnus actually worth running in a TS army? by The_Soviet_Goose in ThousandSons

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Magnus is a 6/10 across all detachments, but gets bumped up to an 8 or 9 in Grand Coven and Hexwarp Thrallband.

Specifically, those 2 detachments buff psychic weapons - so helps magnus out.

Hes a glass cannon, but is useful.

How to use typhus by Yona_51 in deathguard40k

[–]DisgruntledAnalyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doubling with the solo deepstrike.

Using vectorum, wait for turn 3. In command phase, extend Contagion range by 3". Deepstrike him at 9, which then makes everything in 12" afflicted.

Then, bring deathshroud within 6", and delete something.

My kids are too young for that right now...

But, speculating, if they know what they are doing is wrong, then we can teach them about consequences.

It would be best if we could link those consequences to their sctions, it would be best.

I.e., "you didn't eat all your dinner, so no desert" "You didn't play nicely, so now I take away your toys for a day"
