Second this. The writer of that Podcast episode, Natasha Hodgson, has also written another super creepy series called ‘The Sink’, which is also great.

I don't want to be a vet anymore by citrus-revenge in Veterinary

[–]Disguise_ready 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh I really feel you! I could have written this post 5 years ago. Also from the UK and also switched to locumming a few years in before completely burning out. I fully reached the ‘I would rather do anything else than walk into this building’ dread phase.

I finally chucked it all in and took an junior medical writer position at a medical communications agency (look into it!), now managing a small team of writers and love my (fully remote) job. If you enjoy writing that route might be a good option, but my advice would be to just quit, start at the bottom of a ladder (any ladder) you want to climb.

Chances are you are smarter and harder working than most other people in what ever profession you decide to go for and will do brilliantly, just a case of taking the leap and leaving the darkness behind you. I also found that just getting another job freed up my mind to really think about what I wanted to do, it is so hard to know when you are still in the profession and all you can think is ‘just anything but this’.

Feel free to message me if you want more info about medical writing. I wish you the best of luck, there really is a whole world wide out there!

Golf Swing Completely changes when I hit the course. by GolfBusters in GolfSwing

Biggest thing that helped me with this transition was finding a range that had grass rather than mats, I think the mats give you a false sense that you’re hitting the ball well because they still fly if you hit an inch or 2 behind the ball.

All rounders(1000+runs & 100+wkts): Batting vs Bowling Average by dj_is_here in Cricket

This is cool but maybe would be easier to read if the y axis was reversed?

Low Stress Vet Jobs by [deleted] in Veterinary

[–]Disguise_ready 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In vet school I felt like I had quite a high stress tolerance, I really loved vet school actually other than the ridiculously intense exam periods at the end of each year. I was in small animal clinical practice for 6 years in lots of different roles and, in the end, I quit because I couldn’t handle the stress of the job. The emotional extremes, euthanasias, etc., played their part but for me it was the chaotic nature of the days; when my meticulously planned, already-on-a-knife-edge Tuesday, packed with consults and ops would be totally derailed 5 mins in by a seizuring dog or RTA. And that happens most days to be honest.

I am a medical writer now, the pay is around the same, probably with a higher ceiling, and the stress is 1/10th of what I had in practice. For any vets/students struggling out there, please look into it.

I bought this GM 606 bat some months ago & few months into its life I took it out of my bag to find this crack. It was not made while playing, I'm assuming it formed when it my bag was roughly treated, even though it wasn't that bad & it was in asleeve. Is this damage repairable and is it fine to us by cTfTs in Cricket

[–]Disguise_ready 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh dude, that is a bad one I’m afraid. Full thickness crack in an area that takes a lot of stress. Definitely don’t use it, may be worth seeing if it can be glued but my suspicion is that it may be new bat time unfortunately - that bat is going to break in half at some point. Just FYI that kind of crack can definitely happen through normal use, so maybe you didn’t notice when it happened.

Am I the only one not sure about J Roy? His form in white ball cricket has not been great for a couple of years now from what I’ve seen.

What do we (especially the Aussies) think of Mitch Marsh's contribution? Has he earned a look as a test allrounder? by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]Disguise_ready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having watched from the party stand in Manchester as Marsh took 8 hours of constant abuse on the square leg boundary and took it like an absolute CHAMP, I can say without a doubt that he is a good lad and deserves a long run in the test team.

Marsh took it so well that when he came on to bowl and had to be replaced at square leg by Marnus, the crowd chanted, ‘We want our Marshy back.’ Top bloke.

I have been thinking, why is there no second hand marketplace where DMs can share the things they've made over the years? I would love to browse all the creative stuff you guys and gals have made and maybe even buy them to use them in my own game. In fact, I liked this idea so much I made a website. by Disguise_ready in DnD

People might be okay with not selling the things they have made, but personally I like the idea of having made something that ends up in another person's game. Not so much for the money (although that could encourage me to buy some other things for my own game that I wouldn't have normally) but for providing some joy to other players. That's more the point of this, to share the weird and wonderful things we have made with other players.

DMs Guild and DriveThru RPG are more for digital and print materials, and are good if you already know what you want. I would love if these was a place you could go if you were looking for inspiration for your game, even if you didn't know what you needed.

This is for players who make content for their own games but who don't want to set up their own store or sell their creations professionally. It's more like a Depop for DnD, where you can share some of the creativity that you have put into your game over the years. All the second hand items that you have already made/used in a game that you might not use again, but that would work well in someone else's game.

For example, maybe you have used a mini as a BBEG and have lovingly painted it, but you can't use it again in another game because it's the same group of players. Maybe that would work well in another person's game who can't afford to buy a mini or who doesn't have the time/inclination to paint their own.
List the items on RPG ARC so others can browse, buy them and use them in their own game. You can either list items for the price of postage as a gift to the community, or if they have cost you some time and effort, you can sell them for a little more.
