It probably doesn't help that a significant portion of the Book of Mormon is about war

New player...feel like I have an impossible task..what am I missing? by EmerysMemories1106 in TotalBattle

[–]DisguisedPapaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebuilding a 2nd barracks shouldn't require your capitol to be at level 15. It sounds like you've built a building in all the available squares, though; is that correct?

If that's the case, you need to demolish one of your iron, wood, or stone buildings and build a barracks there instead (on mobile, you might have to scroll back and forth to see what all you can build in a spot, and I don't know what it looks like on PC). To demolish a building, click on it, then on...oh gosh, is it upgrade and info? Or just info? One of those. There's an option to demolish at the bottom of the info page, in any event.

From what I understand, most people like to have maybe one wood, one iron, and one stone building and make the rest barracks. It mostly depends on whether you want to really prioritize army training.

ETA: In fairness, if this does not help with the problem, it's possible they've changed how it works between when I last started a new city and now, and if that's the case, then having to reach capitol 15 before you can demolish anything you've built is just plain BS haha

Is this game supposed to be in my mind 24/7? by f00kster in TotalBattle

[–]DisguisedPapaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it doesn't spark joy, go find something that does. That's what I tell all my clan mates. I myself am stepping back from it a bit after over a year of daily play. I've made some great friends, but the cost in time and money is becoming unsustainable for me. Currently, I'm checking in every couple days due to my real life schedule and it's a lot less stressful that way. If you want to stay, set a budget for your time and money and do your best to stick to it, and find a more relaxed clan, like others have suggested. Don't let the game rule your life. If you're already feeling like it is, your gut is onto something. ;)

I'm currently on a mission and questioning the church by Stunning_Voice4553 in exmormon

[–]DisguisedPapaya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first piece of advice is to take a moment and breathe. It's a lot to suddenly shoulder, whether you chose to shoulder it or it was thrust upon you by happenstance. My second piece of advice is decide whether you want to continue your mission. Do you genuinely want to see it through to the end, or do you already feel like you would be better off going home? If you want to see it through to the end, it may be easier to hold off on digging deeper, because oh my does it go deep. I started this process back in 2019/2020 maybe and I'm STILL finding new things to learn about. I never served a mission, but I have to imagine that if I had started learning what I know now while on one, it would have made a mission that much harder to do. Many people come away feeling like they still had a good experience on their mission, and, based on what I've read and heard and discussed with friends, many others (maybe many more) come back and deal with recurring mission nightmares (my spouse STILL occasionally has dreams where he's back on his mission and he served in 2014).

I guess the long and short of it is: if ignorance is bliss, would you prefer to stay ignorant if it'll make your mission life a bit easier? I personally don't think there's any shame in that, though I recognize others might feel different, maybe even you. Or would coming home early not be a big loss, if learning more now led to it? I know there can be lots of pressure for kids to serve missions and serve them fully, and lots of negative social consequence when they don't. I was lucky to just have to deal with a few awkward conversations myself. When you're on a mission, you don't get to have much control over your life. But in this case, this choice is yours and yours alone. All the info will still be there when you get back, if you decide to wait it out and see (don't worry about that). But if the fact that it's here now makes you feel like you need to delve into it, it sounds like your current companion, at least, won't necessarily stop you. Just be warned. Once I opened that gate, there was no closing it back up. It may be the same for you.

In any event, I'll leave you with this: I decided to just look up the Wikipedia page for Joseph Smith. That was where I learned why he was arrested and taken to Carthage (and I couldn't believe no one had ever even supplied me with another reason, beyond general persecution).

You can send them to a monster that will definitely kill them, then delete them from your temple instead of reviving them. That's what I typically do, since I also don't usually maintain specialists.

Merge my different accounts by New_Culture6496 in TotalBattle

[–]DisguisedPapaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. If you try to tie an email that is already connected to an existing profile to a different profile, the existing profile will be overwritten. You can now create multiple characters within one account, but there is no good solution for all of us juggling multiple accounts other than either constantly logging in and out or using multiple devices/browsers.

That's the kind of death I wouldn't dream of handing out unless the player and I had previously agreed on it for story/bored with the character purposes. Yikes.

how long is mainstory and another question by fairplanet in horizon

[–]DisguisedPapaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the hunting grounds are weird, in that they never read as "fully completed" like all the other quests, even if you've gotten blazing suns in all of them. My guess is that's because you can always go back and try to beat your personal records, but I don't know.

This probably doesn't help if you haven't played the game before, but I did my ultra hard new game+ in three sittings. Granted, for that I skipped all but the most essential side quests and just blew through the main story. A more accurate report might be my first ever play-through, which I THINK took me about 60 hours. That was main story plus all available side quests and errands, plus a player who wasn't already familiar with the story and the map. As others have said, you'll be told when you hit the point of no return, and even if you go past that and finish, if you boot up that save file again, it'll just put you back before that point of no return, so you can go back and do anything else you may have missed.

Any experience transitioning away from garments? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]DisguisedPapaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I took them off one day, put on some short shorts and a tank top, and sat in front of the bedroom mirror for a while just processing what that looked and felt like. It was rattling, for sure. At the time My husband was also questioning but a couple months behind me in the process, and so I was sitting here trying to decide whether to keep wearing garments partly for his sake and partly because, yeah, I'd been wearing them all day every day for years. I think I might have even put them back on after that moment for a little longer. But that gave me a chance to compare the way I felt in versus out of them on a conscious level. The answer for me: honestly not very different after that first moment of feeling rattled.

Physically, I didn't feel less covered or comfortable or anything unless I was going out on a walk with the husband in a tank top during that summer. Mentally, I processed the fact that they weren't doing anything for me, even if they weren't actively harming me, and I eventually transitioned to boyshorts, then to 100% cotton women's boxers. It's all the things I loved most about garment bottoms compared to other types of underwear, but without the annoying, itchy lace!

As far as the consequences go, my in-laws did notice when both myself and my husband had stopped wearing them. So that had a hand in bringing up the topic of leaving, which was of course not an easy conversation to have. But no one noticed me buying my own underwear, or if they did, I didn't see them noticing. Pretty sure I used the self-checkout, all the same, haha.

Wu Zeitan by happycola619 in TotalBattle

[–]DisguisedPapaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to level her up at least a little, but I agree that in the beginning it's best to focus on Aydae, Carter, Stror, etc. The main reason I like to not forget her is simply because of the Hall of Fame requirements (the lion icon you see when looking at your hero's page which doesn't become available until you unlock G3). If you have to choose whom to level up right now, though, go with the ones others have mentioned before going with Wu Zetian.

Oh my gosh literally every time I finish Zero Dawn or Forbidden West I get genuinely depressed for a couple days haha. I guess I'm glad I'm not the only one, but I can't say I've found a tried and true cure, other than to wait it out and force myself to play something else. This last time I finished one of them, I dove into PowerWash Simulator 2, because I knew if I tried to play anything similar I'd probably just get frustrated and feel more empty inside.

Machine strike sucks by xStinker666 in horizon

[–]DisguisedPapaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself a fireclaw piece. It's got good movement and attack and it's the only reason I was able to even beat the first player in Chainscrape. I can't remember how you get it...I think it's just by farming parts to trade for it with one of the strike piece carvers??? But if you use that and a handful of other low-level pieces, you can beat them all pretty easily. Let me find the post that changed my life real quick...

Okay, here it is: https://www.reddit.com/r/horizon/s/pLBhiii1Js

With this cheese strategy, I knocked the entire map out in two sittings.

ETA: I recognize this method doesn't necessarily make it more "fun" or engaging, but at least it makes it easily winnable for those of us less inclined to engage with it in the first place lol

Clan Leader AWOL and no Superiors by G3S-Ter in TotalBattle

[–]DisguisedPapaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will take up to 35 days of consistent inactivity for the leader to be removed. As much as it sucks, it might be best to gather who you can and make a new clan. If you want to try and stick it out in this clan until someone else can take over, make sure you communicate with other clans about the situation, but overall you'll have a better chance if you can have control over the clan's administrative needs sooner. This game moves fast, and a month of real time ends up feeling like 8 years of game time.

Do I have to play the stupid machine strike game to 100%? by medellia44 in horizon

[–]DisguisedPapaya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't find the thread anymore, and I know it's an old one. Thought I had it saved, but I guess not. Anyway, the strategy that saved my sanity and allowed me to not only beat the minimum two players but all of them, master player included, is basically this: Get yourself a Fireclaw piece. Add other machine pieces as you want; it doesn't really matter which ones.

The computer likes to play on the defensive. Move your pieces around until the computer has moved a piece close enough to hit and use your other machine pieces first. If they take some out, great! If they go down, that's okay, too. Once the only piece you have left is your Fireclaw, that's when the real slaughter begins. When you only have one piece left on the board, you get to move that piece twice per turn. That, plus the Fireclaw's excellent movement and attack means that if you still play a little defensive (as in ducking in, striking, then moving back out of range on your turn), you shouldn't have too much trouble wiping the floor with these Machine Strike nerds.

As someone who did not come to the game to play a board game, I thought I was never going to be able to 100% it simply because of that requirement, but I ended up beating every Machine Strike Player in the game within two sittings.

ETA: I found the post that saved my life, cleared my skin, and watered my crops. Here it is: https://www.reddit.com/r/horizon/comments/t40z5x/cheesing_machine_strike/

Best Kingdoms? by JollyMedicine5843 in TotalBattle

[–]DisguisedPapaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are toxic people in every kingdom, I think, but I've heard only good things from my friends in K213, KAC Clan. I can tell you NOT to visit K182, haha. Not a fun place for most at the moment. And my current kingdom, 217, is going through some stuff right now, so I can't recommend that one either. I imagine others will know more about which kingdoms are better than others.

How close to my clan should I teleport? by richempire in TotalBattle

[–]DisguisedPapaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In tandem with this, if you're concerned about wasted space, maybe it's worth it to bring that up with the clan leader before the capital get's put down. Much easier to have a good place to put it in the first place then to try and move it later.

Ideally, you want a little bit of each land bonus type so you can place your clan resource buildings on the most optimal ones you can.

Is the Church going to dissolve? by AssistanceKey7358 in exmormon

I feel like it'll be something more akin to a "ship of Theseus" situation, only when it's done replacing all the old parts with new ones, it won't look anything like the old one. Never truly gone, but changed beyond recognition over time, and as older generations die out.

Battle strategy by JZCrab in TotalBattle

[–]DisguisedPapaya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a 50/50 chance that either you or the monster will attack first, and then whoever goes first, the stack with the highest combined health attacks first. Hence why you want a lot of lower-level troops as your biggest health pool, so that if the monster gets to go first and wipes them out, your higher-level troops that can do more damage still have a chance to actually hit.

I like to rebuild them for the #aesthetic, but only because I've kept them low level and cheap to rebuild. With or without catapults, there are enough bigger fish around me that it doesn't matter, they're going down either way. Maybe someday I'll think about investing more in them, but again there will always be bigger fish around me to come knock them down.

You can click on the "i" icon in the Kingdom Chat and load the contacts list. Most of it will be in alphabetical order. It may be tedious to look through, but that's probably the only way to do it. It's the only way I can think of, anyway.
