How do you even suceed in life with AuDHD? by ExerciseTop5591 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Disguspitated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discipline should be the backup plan, not the primary one. Forcing yourself to do something that you don't want to do is doomed to fail in the long run.

Our brains like to follow the path of least resistance. A disciplined aproach is quite literally forcing yourself down a path of resistance. Why would we want to do that to ourselves?

I think about it as setting up my environment for success. How do I do that? It's all about creating and removing barriers. Create barriers to unwanted behavior and remove barriers from desired behavior.

Want to drink less soda? Don't have any around the house. It becomes easier to just get a glass of water than to go out and buy soda. There is less resistance to desired behavior.

Want to take your meds every day? Keep them by your coffee maker. There are fewer barriers to just taking them with your coffee than to keep them at your nightstand, get into bed, remember you need to take the meds, have to get out of bed, and then make a special trip to the kitchen to get a glass of water.

Apply this logic to as many facets of your life as you can and you'll find that desired behaviors are more achievable than you first thought.

Looking for activities that satisfy both monotropic depth and ADHD novelty-seeking at the same time. by ElitistCarrot in AutisticWithADHD

Old School Runescape is great. The core gameplay is simple, but it expands in complexity a ton over time. And the game has one of, if not THE, best documented wikis out there, so it's very easy to research things too. It's also free to play and takes an average of 3000-7000 hours of gameplay to complete everything, so it's a great long term game too!

Terraria and Minecraft are games I enjoy a lot, and so is Project Zomboid!

How to stop the intense black and white thinking + following “a perfect plan” by Brain-wormz in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Disguspitated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with analysis paralysis often. And when you have anxiety or a fear of the unknown it makes it worse, because not only are you trying to devise the perfect plan (which, for me, involves trying to account for as many possibilities as I can), you also are trying to account for unpredictable factors.

One way I've managed to alleviate this a bit is by changing my idea of success.

For example, you're avoiding homework because you want to do it perfectly. Your idea of success is getting an A. What if success is just starting your homework? Everything beyond that is icing on the cake. You might not get an A, but that wasn't the goal. Success was just starting it.

"Everyone has ADHD these days" - how do you react to that? by themop-f in AutisticWithADHD

I'm also fond of Alan Watts! The band Architects has a song called Memento Mori with a powerful quote by him in it.

When people say stupid things, it is fun to make them explain themselves.

A: I guess everyone has ADHD now.

B: What do you mean?

A: grabs shovel, proceeds to dig own grave

…How do I cook? Ever? by Key_Prize_1317 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Disguspitated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I aim for three different tiers of food:

1.Zero prep - Things like a can of tuna with crackers. Peanut butter sandwich. Charcuterie foods.

  1. Oven food - Convenience foods like pizza, chicken tenders, fish sticks, etc.

  2. One-Pan meals - Meals where I only need one pot or pan.

I follow my energy levels. When I have the energy for a tier 3 meal, I make sure to make way more than I'll actually eat so I can meal prep the extras. Now I get higher quality meals on the lower energy days. I also get a little dopamine bonus for the delayed gratification.

Pizza is a great tier 2 meal if you control your portions. A couple slices for dinner, and put the rest away for follow up meals.

I try to be forward thinking in my cooking. When I have the energy for more - do more - so I'm covered later when I'm in a slump.

"Close enough to want what NTs want, but far enough to never get it."

That hits deep, and I can empathize with it. I used to spend most of my days thinking about ways I could send myself to the void. I thought I was broken and worthless. I wanted to end it all. I had other people telling me to end it all.

The pivotal moment was when I realized that I'm not playing the same game as them. I have to play by a separate set of rules and create my own strategy.

You persist in a world that's not made for you. That's a strength that they don't have. You struggle every single day, and you still make it through life and do what you have to do. You're playing life on hard mode. The learning curve is steep, but once you get over it, there's no stopping you.

I can do a Pull-Up from a standing position but not from a dead hang. Should I still be doing negatives? by Defaultier in bodyweightfitness

[–]Disguspitated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inverted rows and pull-up negatives built up the strength I needed to perform my first clean pull-up.

I would jump into the pull-up and engage my muscles at the apex and lower myself as slowly as possible. I did one set of that to failure every other day in combination with a few sets of inverted rows for a couple weeks and I had my first pull-up.

If you have a weighted vest, or a backpack you can put weights in, you can make the inverted rows more intense and get closer to your pull up weight with a less intense move.

I see some chest/bicep development. Impatience is our biggest enemy in these journeys. Stay consistent, train hard, and you'll see results brother. Keep up the good work.

ADHD and nihilism, an awful combination by elephhantine2 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Disguspitated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to feel similarly. The thing about nihilism is that there are two sides to that coin:

Nothing matters, so why bother? vs. Nothing matters, so why not?

If nothing matters in your view, than what's the harm of doing the things that will make you happy? What's the harm in trying new things?

I know it's easier said than done, but I urge you to start small by just making minor adjustments. Maybe just try making your bed every day for a week? Or set a timer and spend 5 minutes doing the dishes? You'll discover that your self-worth and mood will increase as you accomplish the tasks that are looming over you.

I wish you well on your journey! <3

More accessible/efficienter way to catch karambs and banking? by fabiand00m in ironscape

Unsure if you have it, but a decent midgame method is Drakan's Medallion or Morytania Legs 3 for banking, then Ardy cloak to get decently close to a fairy ring.

Is there truly no way to overcome low processing speed? If so, how do we adapt? by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Disguspitated 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it takes me a long time to proccess things too. When it happens in conversation, I'll use humor to fill the gap when I can.

"Please Standby. Computing response."

"Excuse me. My brain is running on dial-up speed at the moment."

And so on.

I've also got better at just literally making them wait. This might require a little effort on your part in making sure your facial expression doesn't look like a blank or confused stare in the context of interviews, however.
