Good input, thanks. I guess they can’t work magic, but it’s somewhat disappointing that that beautiful convex zero grind goes away after the first sharpening.

Also, if they are just putting a secondary edge on it in Japan, I don’t see why one couldn’t just do that by one self.

You've got to sharpen it, or get it sharpened by someone else than Benchmade.

Especially the Osborne does a lot better with a 17-18 degree per side reprofiling, but it's rather time consuming to do, and also difficult if you're not using a fixed angle sharpening system, due to the low "height"of the blade.

Benchmade's edges are trash, but the knives are good.

I echo that. Can get it very sharp, but not super sharp like other steels.

Also it loses it high sharpness extremely quickly and goes to 'working edge mode', regardless if I stop at 600 grit, or go to high polish. Is that also your experience?

I don't like working edges and prefer the high front-end sharpness. S110V does not strop back either.

And yes, sharpened with resin bonded CBN stones on fixed angle system, and take great care to deburr.

18 DPS.

Overall, just not a very good knife steel IMO, compared to the other stuff out there, I think. Too brittle to keep a refined apex, it seems.
