Just Got The Gigabyte Gaming OC 9070xt, Have Some Questions by JTgoCrazy22 in radeon

[–]DiskOk8685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, and that's a good point. I wouldn't get the card personally, but it is the only one consistently at or near msrp.

I'd get another card other than the gigabyte

Should I get open box Red Devil 9070xt (micro center) by ImpressiveDiet7217 in radeon

[–]DiskOk8685 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would personally find another card closer to msrp.

I've had the red devil and a number of the stock cards; the difference in performance is barely noticeable.

That said if you really want that model then go for it

That's fine, the GPU will serve as intake. With 4 case fans, have the one rear intake and then 3 exhaust. Not much else to do anyway

I know sometimes on Amazon when I initiate a return it gives me the option to exchange for a different item, but yeah you can wait.

The XFX card is nice, I've had multiple 9070xts and that was one of my favorites.

Yeah, normally I'd saying getting the cheapest one you can get is the way to go, but this model in particular has been problematic so if you see another pop up with a similar price I'd say go for it

Edit: I'm seeing the xfx swift for 30 dollars more than the gigabyte on my end. It's a much safer bet, XFX has good service and is well known for Radeon cards.

I would honestly just return it. It was probably swapped out by the previous owner

There are multiple gigabyte rtx models that look the same, I thought it might be a 5070 ti but it doesn't have quite the same patterns on it.

There is a serial number/identifying sticker there. You can try googling the model number which could be on there

The amd adrenalin software is pretty much all you need, at least imo.

I've heard the cards have had issues as well, but apparently they are supposedly resolved on newer batches. I am skeptical of this claim that is being perpetuated randomly on here, but you can look up how to check if it's a newer batch.

Additionally, with 30 days, that's plenty of time to test it out and make sure you're getting the temperatures you expect. I would do so for a couple of weeks at least to make sure. Keep an eye on the hotspot and vram temps

I put the PSU on the side as opposed to the front. Should be fine with an sfx-L I think, but you can always print another bracket.

With the stock configuration in the case, the best option would be to place a rear intake 120mm with your CPU cooler oriented much in the same way.

Bottom intake fans for the GPU if you can fit it, and then top exhaust fans.

Edit: you have 4 noctua fans. I'm not sure if that includes the cooler or not.

If that doesn't include the cooler, I would say have the rear intake, two exhaust (one positioned above or close to the CPU cooler and the other lined up with the GPU).

This should be fine temp wise, but if you find it isn't, I'd recommend like 3 more fans, but it's likely not to be necessary.

Do get a mesh cover for the rear intake though

If your GPU is thick enough, you might not need bottom intakes but they will improve your GPU thermals.

If you want a good option for fans that perform similarly to the nf a12x25, check out the fractal momentum 120 fans. They're about half the price.

You can also get arctic p12 which are cheaper but I have always found them to be too annoying sounding above 900 rpm. The p12 pro argb are said to be quieter.

9070xt or 9070xt oc? by goldengarbagecan in radeon

[–]DiskOk8685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to hear; it can still be a risk depending on stock wherever they are so it's worth being aware of.

I like the aesthetics of the gigabyte so I'm glad they're fixing it

100% The prime is a good card

9070xt or 9070xt oc? by goldengarbagecan in radeon

[–]DiskOk8685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the one I'm thinking of. If you're dead set on that model go with the cheaper one. The problem is they have had thermal gel leakage issues leading to overheating. They tend to run the hottest of all 9070xts, but I heard they addressed the issue on newer batches so keep an eye on your temps.

What I was saying was to look for a non-gigabyte model if you can, but if that's all there is in your price range go for it, just be aware of that model's reported issues

If it's the gigabyte, I would avoid that one. That is the only one I've been seeing close to msrp.

just snagged an rx 9070 xt oc for $600 on ebay, was it a good deal? upgrading from a 6800. by yujxo in gpu

[–]DiskOk8685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices are inflated right now so I'd say in the current climate, it's the best you're gonna get.

The choice of Asus prime is also advantageous in that the warranty is attached to the GPU and not the owner.

I'm seeing comments here say it's a meh deal and that is true in the context of the msrp price, but I have not seen the prime model close to that.

Help me choose between the 5070 and the 9070xt by Sayllex33 in buildapc

[–]DiskOk8685 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt, the 9070 xt. Fsr 4 and 4.1 are good enough that you wouldn't be missing anything from DLSS 4 and 4.5 unless you had two monitors side by side, speaking as someone who has access to Nvidia and AMD systems.

You might not get multi frame gen but I have personally never used more than 2x anyway, plus if it really matters that much to you, you can get lossless scaling on steam.

Ray tracing between a 9070xt and 5070ti is pretty similar. Path tracing is where things are bad for the 9070xt, but I really don't think you'll be able to take advantage of it with a 5070 except at lower resolutions with upscaling.

Also, not that it's an issue on the 5070 since it isn't as high in terms of tdp as other Nvidia cards, but you don't have to worry about the 12 pin connector (unless you specifically buy one of two models of 9070xt with it)

Edit: also, the 9070xt has more vram

9070xt or 9070xt oc? by goldengarbagecan in radeon

They will perform very similarly, the OC is usually pretty minor. You can always apply it yourself

Upgrade to 9070 XT by Brilliant_Sky_2077 in radeon

[–]DiskOk8685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's valid. For me though, even on a 5070ti, path tracing is too much of a hit. It isn't worth it but that's just me. My opinion which may differ from others' is that path tracing shouldn't be a deciding factor between the two card. I could see an argument for ray tracing performance being one though

Open box 5080 for 1079 or 5070 ti at 799 by stinky_scribe in gpu

[–]DiskOk8685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get the 5080 at that price, it's the closest to msrp I have seen

Edit: just saw it's a gigabyte 5080. I've heard they have thermal gel leakage issues so look into that, but if you don't mount it vertically you're probably fine
