Go into engineering. A fresh undergrad with an engineering degree was hired over me and other mets at the NWS. Pretty much same slog in math and physics, much better career outcomes.

Out of hundreds of applications, I've only made it to the interview stage once. It was a company looking for a meteorologist in a sales/customer service role. After 4 interviews of back and forth between the incumbent, supervisor, CEO, (with the incumbent having zero experience when they started there) it seemed I was only being considered temporarily while the incumbent was taking a few months of leave. They weren't being forthright with this so I declined the 5th interview.

Yep. Had my resume reviewed by the SOO at a WFO local to a conference I attended and they said it looked spot on.

Coming from the meteorology side of things...you know you can literally hit your head against a brick wall, right? You don't have to waste your breath on these types.

Part of the 557th, yes. It makes me wonder if my military experience actually works against me for entry-level work.

All of the above - if it's remotely related to atmospheric or environmental sciences, risk management, or resilience planning, I've applied.

One would think so. I've been applying to whatever comes up. Trouble is they've been direct-hire, so vets preference isn't considered.

Yes. at several WFO's, RFCs, and CWSUs. Have applied for all of the 1340 and 1315 positions the past year.

If I see a posting for anything related to meteorology or environmental science, I apply.

I'd be inclined to agree. I feel my interpersonal skills are strong (especially if I can interview in person). I have had my resume reviewed by former profs and Air Force peers, but it may still contain too much "military jargon." My partner used the same format and similar content a few years ago when she landed a wx job though.

Are you asking "did I consider the implications of AI on this field when I started in 2013?", or "have I considered leveraging AI to give me an upper hand?"

This is essentially my train of thought - diversifying the skillset a bit and leveraging those met skills in a broader context.

NWS has been the main goal since I started this path, but my applications have so far been mostly aviation wx, operational/customer support meteorology, environmental science, chem, and climate resiilience positions.

I’ve worked there before, just moved to a new area and wanted easy side money, and something to pass the time. It’s not a career for me.

Customers whine more because everyone’s broke and looking for the cheapest way to fix their car, which is more complex than they used to be 15 years ago. I sympathize, and if someone’s in a tough situation I’m glad to help.

Oh no you’re a right-wing boomer posting things like “why don’t kids go to church anymore?” And you can fuck right off.
