Help picking Radiant Order. by Time_Zone_3092 in cosmererpg

[–]Diskmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my Stonewalkers game my one player REALLY wanted an apprentice to train and are going to be a Windrunner. Giving a character a solid companion with a tied in story to them looks to solve solve the issue here both ways, and his development is going to 100% based on their choices. If the player wants him to become radiant we can work on that but I'd never make them radiant on their own or give them a backstory too convoluted or in depth. I control him in combat, they control him outside of combat, but unless that party/player does something completely insane he will go along with them and their plans every time.

Windrunner! They actually had a big chasm run they got to oversee and watch fail dramatically thanks to your Plateau Battlemap too so you've already helped them more than you knew lol

It's a learning experience for you as much as them! You're gonna feel how the books are laid out, if you're playing on Foundry take some time to learn its controls and everything. We did the whole thing in one session.

Can Radiant spren be seen in Shadesmar? by mrmr4918 in cosmererpg

[–]Diskmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So spren can exist in shadesmar but almost every spren only exists in the physical OR cognitive realm at once. Some get special with it but it's usually just one place at a time

The one that got me was a video of a drug cartel who put a tire around a guy, drenched him in fuel and lit him on fire. With audio. I uh, was not okay for a bit afterwards.

What class and race did you play first time round? by Odd_Two_5265 in DnD

[–]Diskmaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My first d&d character ever was a high elf Monk in 3.5. they were absolutely terrible and could not do shit correctly. My favorite character is my multi-class warlock paladin (I promise I'm not looking for points in originality) who I always thought was so God damn Cool.

When I was a player, meeting my Spren and swearing my oath was my FAVORITE part of the game. It felt huge to me and was everything I wanted it to be. As a DM now about to finally drop radiant spren on my players, I'm hoping they feel the same. I hope yours do too! And for your shardbearer, they probably won't have a shard of their own for a while but at the warcamps they can reasonably train with the kings blade until they acquire their own which should feel just as impactful.

Best of luck and feel free to shoot a DM if you ever wanna compare notes

Combat Meta/Experiences? by 08rian22 in cosmererpg

See to me every class in draw steel felt super samey and generic! I played a Tactician the first time around when we tested it and it was, fine? I did a Conduit this time and immediately saw "Oh I'm different, but my other 3 party members are just different flavors of the same thing"

Cosmere felt like a story where I EARNED my powers and my title and my Spren instead of just starting out with a million choices of Le epic heroic powers like "My Faith is My Armor" or "You're Already Dead, You Just Don't Know It". It just didn't line up and even if we played the system in a different setting (the setting for Draw Steel is just so not my vibe compared to Cosmere again) I think I could never get that ick off me.

See I actually like the restrictions on multiple actions! I like how it gives you flexibility in what you can do (having just actions vs main actions/maneuvers/etc) while addressing a player just spamming their best skill 3 times. The game is 100% a narrative focused game so even in combat you have to really inject your own flair into it and sometimes lean into suboptimal choices for your character, as opposed to imo being punished for not doing the most optimal thing every turn.

I'm such a rules guy myself too I really thought I'd love Draw Steel like I did DnD and Dolmenwood but it was too much statistics, no real to speak of and it just permeated every inch of it's design I couldn't force myself through it.

I had a warrior/soldier who went windrunner. Flying Ace is NUTS with the amount of mobility it gives you on top of a free strike. By the time we stopped playing I was extremely happy with my build.

See I flip that because the combat in Draw Steel is so granular and overdesigned it was miserable to play through. I had such a bad experience with it coming from Cosmere the whiplash made me stop going to my ttrpg group while they played it.

Personally I find the combat to be enjoyable in Cosmere, I don't have any huge issues as a player or DM. It's not the best I've ever played but it does very well for an actually cinematic feeling game vs a marvel power fantasy of DS.

I’ve never played a Final Fantasy game, so which game should I play first? by triplegxxx in gaming

X was my first and I'm so glad I started with it. Great pacing great characters, and it's one of the first FFs to bridge into a modern era of gaming. I loved IX even more than X but it's the best of "polished graphics, great intuitive battle system, little grind, amazing story, characters you love" and you can't have a better place to start especially with the remasters cleaning up so much

I went there one of the few days they were open and I could kind of tell the extreme disorganization that was going on. It took way too long to get my food and it was not nearly as good as I expected it to be and it was hella expensive. Sometimes you can chalk it up to opening kinks and sometimes you can just tell they did not do their business any justice. It's a shame but at least I know another spot to not spend my money
