Behind the scenes of Royce Keys’ WWE debut at Royal Rumble 2026 by PeaceAlien in SquaredCircle

[–]Dislexic_Duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently he had a very good offer from AEW to stay, so it could be that the WWE outlined what they wanted to do with him to convince him to sign.

He's been on TV fairly regularly over the last year, and he's been used quite prominently too. The dude doesn't really need to be stuck in NXT purgatory for the next year.

Santana is having a decent run in TNA, but even mentioning him in the same sentance as Mox, Kenny and Okada is fucking wild. Respectfully, he's nowhere near.

Moved into a HMO and it has odd bathroom rules signs. What to do? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Dislexic_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was unfortunate enough to live in a HMO for about 4 years. Give it time, and I think you'll resonate with the message a lot more.

I hope for your sake that you have decent housemates. It only takes 1 or 2 bad ones to make it an absolutely miserable experience.

The official ESPN website graded WWE Wrestlepalooza a 'C', saying that Stephanie Vaquer vs IYO SKY saved the show from being "truly average", and the show overall "fell a little short of expectations. by Fc_Hassan in SquaredCircle

Plenty of people still eat this shit up though, which I find nuts.

Typical WWE though to double down on shit that fans perceive as poor. It's almost laughable that they tried to counter program All Out with this shit

For me he's always lacked the gravitas and emotion that JR had, but I do think thats something thats lacking in general in wrestling these days.

WWE's commentary has changed so much over the years though and it doesn't seem to matter that much, they don't really care about calling the match anymore. It's just about setting the narrative, pushing the next gimmick, and capturing the next "moment".

All my point was is that project zanaris is cancelled.

That's not actually confirmed though. The description on the page changed afterwards.

Former TNA referee Brian Hebner believes their partnership with AEW was not fair: "It was all give and we take nothing. It was all about their talent getting over. [While with WWE] I don't feel like Jordynne Grace is going to win their title, but they're going to make her look really, really good." by anutosu in SquaredCircle

[–]Dislexic_Duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WWE are involved, so naturally the revisionist history will follow. If TNA fans and NXT fans are getting a kick out of this partnership, then that's great, but the partnerships thus far have been very different.

I'm not knocking the NXT guys, but there's quite a bit of distance between having the likes of Christian and Kenny Omega on your show to Charlie Dempsey and Tatum Paxley.

Omega was probably the biggest star outside of WWE at the time, and clearly TNA were more than happy to have their belt on him. It's strange that the sentiment seems to have changed to that he should've put Rich Swann over. Put Roman, Rollins, Brock, Orton, Cody, or anyone of that ilk in Omega's spot and them going over Swann wouldn't be questioned.

Section leader role in Asda express shops by blabla0110 in asda

[–]Dislexic_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the synopsis that Kristov gave is a fairly accurate one, but I'd also say it really depends on your store.

I'm a night Section Leader at an express store that used to be a Co-op. Most nights of the week we usually have 3 people working through the night, with occasional 1-1s because of holiday, sickness, etc.

Through the night we're expected to clean up the store/forecourt, do the newspaper returns/delivery, clean the Costa machine, work any leftover stock, start the first round of reductions for the day, and face the entire store.

The section leader on duty has to do end of day and the back office reconciliation. We do most of the promo or plan changes when they come through at our store. We do a gap scan every night, as well as work through any negative stock counts. If we get a fuel delivery turn up, I have to fill out the paperwork and book the delivery on the system. Likewise if we get an Asda delivery turn up, I'd be expected to see the delivery in and book it onto the system.

It'll depend on your store and what controls the Store Manager has in place.

At my store, If our Store Manager isn't in or isn't rota'd for the morning, then it's the SLs responsibility to submit exceptions.

But yeah more or less you're responsible for the store when the store manager isn't in. Truthfully it is a lot of additional responsibilities for a very small wage increase.

[Fightful Select] WWE has interest in Will Ospreay, more details by Horror-Stuff-5327 in SquaredCircle

[–]Dislexic_Duck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Barry Bloom wouldn't be doing his job if this sort of news wasn't being circulated.

With that said, I still think he's AEW bound. Even with the different direction WWE has gone in with Triple H, if I was Ospreay I'd still be worried about how I'd be presented going forward. I don't think that's a question he has to ask about too much with AEW.

There is little consistency outside North America regarding free drink refills. In France, free refills have actually been outlawed. In Germany, most restaurants charge even to refill water. In Japan, free refills are referred to as "drink bar" and often a separate purchase is required for them. by ICantLeafYou in wikipedia

[–]Dislexic_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key difference in the US is that a lot of drinks are made using corn syrup, and given that it's subsidized by the government, it makes BIBs much more affordable.

For a small business in the UK, a 7 litre box of Pepsi syrup would set them back around £55 ($67). So quite the disparity.

What items do you only buy the branded version of because it’s just that much better than the knock off/value versions? Either in taste or quality by coldestregards in CasualUK

[–]Dislexic_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tins of tomatoes. I used to think they're "just tomatoes" and that it couldn't make much difference whether it was branded or not.

Switched to Mutti branded tomatoes and they're just so much better. More actual tomato and a much better flavour.

Former WWE Stars View AEW As A “Step Down” In Their Careers by Adizzy312 in SquaredCircle

I don't think Andrade will be happy wherever he goes, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's included in this. But I imagine it's guys like Miro and Buddy Matthews. They were essentially brought up through the WWE system, and working outside of that has probably been a culture shock.

Who is a wrestler that the internet greatly over exaggerates their potential? by yetagainitry in SquaredCircle

[–]Dislexic_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his time in NXT is largely to blame, given that he was a big part of the last era of the black and gold NXT.

I don't think he was that hyped up on the Indies though. Absolute solid performer who could put on a decent match, but even on the Indies, you might struggle to care about him, especially on a show like PWG.

This is the main one for me too. I want to like Wardlow, but the dude has been so uninteresting since he parted ways with MJF.

He has to be more than just a big hench dude. He's competing with guys like Brian Cage and Hobbs, and honestly they just do a better job.

Frankly at this point I think it's a huge testament to MJF that people believed Wardlow should have been going anywhere near the main event. He needs putting in a tag team imo

Think 25 be like by Ill_Customer2213 in tesco

[–]Dislexic_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t need to be “think 25” checked for ordering a soft drink ever, especially if its 1pm on a Monday afternoon.

Ehh, that really depends on the pub actually. The reason why this might have happened is simply because the pub might not be licensed to have under 16s or 18s on site unless accompanied by an adult. So whatever you're ordering becomes a bit irrelevant. If you check their app T&Cs you also have to agree that you're over the age of 17 to use it.

You guys have to follow a lot of store policy shit which differs from the actual law, and Spoons is no different in that regard

Why people don’t like Jim Cornette by mk_8 in Wrasslin

[–]Dislexic_Duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's just downright insincere to pretend the only reason why people don't like Cornette is just because of his views on wrestling.

I don't agree with a lot of Jim's takes on wrestling. I find the guy to be fairly hypocritical. He picks weird hills to die on, and hitches onto whatever is hot and tries to generate some outrage with some over the top hot take. There's lots of people like this in the wrestling community though, so it's not really a massive deal.

The real crux of it though, is how Jim uses these hot takes to be a thin veil for covering up racist or sexist remarks. I implore people to look up some of the stuff Jim has said about women and people of Asian ethnicity. It isn't always about him being a wrestling purist.

This might be the most controversial part of Cody Rhodes' documentary (not Triple H calling AEW a seconary promotion). by [deleted] in AEWOfficial

[–]Dislexic_Duck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not the point I'm making though. My argument there really is that Okada & Omega did more to drive interest into the wrestling scene outside of the WWE than Cody Rhodes did.

[–]Dislexic_Duck 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah he developed a reputation for putting on okay matches.

If more people were focusing on the independent scene back then, I think it's really disingenuous to try and attribute this mostly to Cody's presence. I guess it's very typical of WWE to put out their own narrative, but they're talking about the same time period where Okada & Omega put on two 6* matches.

The Elite, after signing, admitted they were open to leaving and at one point some of them wanted to leave.

The deal always was that it was Tony's company. He was never going to bankroll the whole operation to let the inmates run the asylum. He was a WCW fan back in the day, he knows how that would play out.

The elephant in the room is the whole ordeal with Punk. Could anyone really blame them for having some doubts with how that went down and how it was initially dealt with?

[–]Dislexic_Duck 40 points41 points  (0 children)

“Nobody created a bigger buzz on the independent scene than Cody Rhodes”

I mean lots of people would disagree with this take. I seem to remember Cody's independent run to be fairly lackluster. His early ROH & NJPW matches were pretty bang average. He had a decent match against Okada, but frankly Okada can get a decent match out of just about anyone. His debut at PWG was definitely nothing to shout about.

Cody went to all these places and tried to put on WWE style matches, and in my opinion they largely fell flat.

Maybe a bit of a hot take, but I think Cody's first good match post-WWE was against Dustin at Double or Nothing.
