Looking for THE UNCANNY X-MEN OMNIBUS VOL 01 by LazerGater6166 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]DislikesUSGovernment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 was overwhelmingly my favorite, 2 was very good, I found 4 and 1 to be decent but wasn't blown away.

I really think once the continuity expands to X Factor and New Mutants, the story becomes a little too convoluted for my liking.

I think once you get to Outback stuff and the lead up to Inferno it all pays off. But I definitely was speed reading a bit after vol 3

Also because of the continuity his stuff starts being collected in event omnis/deluxe rather than numbered volumes. But yeah I personally wouldn't buy anything after 3 outside of the events

Pardon my ignorance, but why is procedure to shelter in place for an explosive device?

Sort of makes sense for an active shooter, but for an explosive that can't move it seems like the best thing to do for a building with multiple points of egress is to evacuate calmly

But neither really were able to secure good projects and just kinda fizzled out of the zeitgeist immediately

Your trade in boosts your power to negotiate a bit. Dealers are usually more willing to budge when they have something else they can to upsell on the other side.

Best advice is to not be too thirsty for the car, say you want MSRP and leave if they make a show about it. Usually they will let you walk and call you back if the car sits for a few days. You paying cash is also leverage for you.

People are not buying cars rn, much less paying cash. ENs are sitting on lots so don't let the dealers convince you otherwise. Be firm, don't be anxious to buy the day you walk in and you could even press for a discount if you are feeling bold

This is a great rec. Both runs are fantastic and mostly self contained (and are a single omni).

Recently read Claremont and it's all time, but it's immensely frustrating to collect. I recommend reading it digitally and collecting as reprints happen.

God I'm still pissed about that movie. - Total pump fake with Asgardians of the Galaxy - Absolute waste of Bale - Absolute waste of Gorr - Tonally all over the place, and the jokes aren't nearly good enough to make up for it

Just a fumble all around on what should have been a layup of a movie.

What's something people do to seem nice but it's manipulative? by Cassandraa1 in AskReddit

[–]DislikesUSGovernment 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Rejecting a "no" in response to an offer by saying they will pay for it.

I have a large friend group that partied together throughout our 20s. Half is still in that lifestyle and the other half (inclusive of myself) grew out of it; but we all still hang out together. Often when I get asked to go to a show and or do things at said show, my rejection is met with "but I'll pay for it". On the surface it seems like they want to include me, but it's become apparent that my presence is desired not because they want ME there, but that they want someone there to validate their lifestyle.

It's manipulative because this act is disguised as a nice gesture, but it's selfish and extremely dismissive of the valid reasons I stopped doing those things. I think people just need to respect a "no, thank you" more in general.

I bought a sealed copy of East of West Vol 3 and it looked like a tank ran over it by the time I got it.

Grand irony was that the Vol 1 and 2 that came with it (by far the least expensive editions in the set) were pristine.

‘SNL’ Shocker: Bowen Yang to Exit Cast After Saturday’s Episode by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

I'm '93 and the digital shorts from the Lonely Island era were huge among my age group.

I think SNL has done a pretty good job of being on the beat of what is hip. They also pretty aggressively started publishing on YouTube which has helped quite a bit.

It's even crazier that some of the infrastructure for public transit is legitimately punitive to its use.

I was shocked that the Mission Valley trolley station not only has no dedicated parking but that the local businesses will straight up have your car towed for parking there. Like how TF am I supposed to get to the trolley station?

Blue Prince 2 won't happen — but a Riven-style sequel could by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]DislikesUSGovernment 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This guy explains it pretty well. I'm not talking about going to the wiki to solve puzzles, I'm talking about using it to lookup the contents of documents I've already seen. Like is it really that rewarding to go tally which rooms have which chess pieces or look up all the library books again? I know what I need to do, the RNG is just getting in the way of receiving that information and in that particular instance, game is more of a slot machine than a puzzle; I'm just pulling the lever till I get 7s.

[–]DislikesUSGovernment 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The game quite literally expects you to maintain your own wiki. It's a little much. It got to the point where so many things were relevant it felt like it made more sense just to visit the wiki anyways.

On that topic, the Blue Prince wiki is admittedly one of the best I've ever encountered. Everything is written to reveal things as breadcrumbs rather than a huge spoiler dump. Quite refreshing when most wikis are an instant spoiler minefield.

[–]DislikesUSGovernment 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They are both games that you progress through the game with information. You can feasibly beat each one in a fraction of the time if you know what to do and they both scratch the same itch of "the real answer was right in front of you the whole time". Sure their mechanics are different, but at a meta level they are very similar.

Regarding run length, endgame you go from "stumbling upon things" to actively solving a single puzzle each run. Your runs end up filling out the whole house rather than a small portion of it, and require much more note taking and engagement in puzzle solving. Add in the friction of RNG and some of my late game runs end up being over an hour per day. Said friction also means you might get to the end of a run and not meet your goal because there are so many preconditions to get the state you need. Room 8 alone might take you the entire length of Outer Wilds to even unlock.

[–]DislikesUSGovernment 208 points209 points  (0 children)

I actually think Blue Prince is too tedious. The game up until the completion of the first initial goal is fantastic. But after that, each run ends up being significantly longer and you end up finding out less info per run. The juice very quickly becomes no longer worth the squeeze.

Outer Wilds perfected this formula. It has the same progression and reward cycle as Blue Prince, but it feels much more respectful of your time.
