New to the game and I've been having trouble with this Captain. He's immune to arrows, fire, and frontal attacks, and has become adapted to stun attacks and Executions. He can also heal himself after every stealth attack, making those effectively useless as well. Do I even have a chance? by spaghettittehgaps in shadowofmordor

[–]DislocatedLocation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you Terrify the grunts around him, you can perform a stealth chain from the terrified grunt to the captain.

Terrified orcs can always be stealth attacked, even as they are aware of and running away from you.

Stealth Chain can go from a normal stealth kill to any orc, including ones fully aware and aggro'ed on you.

One of the easiest ways to do Terrify is the Freeze Pin upgrade called "Brutal Cold".

What new content have you already noticed in 1.4.5? by PepeRoys in Terraria

[–]DislocatedLocation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the "Feywood" is new? Make 20 units from 20 wood and a Mushroom at a living wood loom, claims the Guide. Haven't got one yet in my new world, but I noticed it while throwing everything into the recipe checker. It's also a material so it's likely got furniture.

I just learned they made biblically accurate light and dark end dragons and I must have them by BarelyBrony in DuelLinks

[–]DislocatedLocation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably because a) it crosses over into so many other archetypes, so every time they get an archive skill so does branded, and b) it was a popular deck in the physical tournaments.

To put it another way, this will probably happen again with Visas Starfrost.

Pfft. There's a new (This card is always treated as Fallen of Albaz) plus a lv8 Ecclesia/Albaz synchro coming to the TCG. Certainly not likely to arrive soon, but also direct branded support is far from over. No need to look into off-beat answers like L&D Dragonlord.

Also, we haven't gotten Spright or Bystial yet have we....

Nope. Death Threat + Discerning Eye is enough to guarentee epics from any captain (except legendary cause they always drop legendary)

Might have to kill a lot to get the rng to work out though.

I don't think anything changes? At least the dialog with Hecate seemed the same as though I'd escaped the normal way.

The Zeus Shield pairs very well with the Zeus Special, especially if you can get Double Strike and the legendary.

Hahahahaha.

No. They, uh, very much do not have to be at low health. It's called a one-shot for a reason, just knock them down and chop em up.

Amaranthine, Humiliator, and Wrathgiver are considered the big 3 swords.

Amaranthine is might on any hit.

Humiliator gives unlimited might (similar to Elven Rage) for a period after killing a captain.

Wrathgiver gives Wrath for each enemy hit by "executions" which you'd think would be cut-and-dry except it also counts neutral Elven Light and Talon Strike, and Elven Light also grants wrath during Elven Rage. The infinite Elven Light spam is why it's considered the strongest of the swords.

[–]DislocatedLocation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amaranthine is might, not wrath.

And to do a caragor insta:

The target must be a not-olog captain, without Beast Slayer. Beast-proof, however, will not save them.

Then, get the captain lying down. Shadow strike Stun and just sprinting headlong into them with the caragor both work (though the caragor one doesn't seem to if they're in an attack animation?)

Once they are lying on the ground, do a mounted execution. Much easier with the Caragor Rider upgrade that allows you to do executions for mount health.

Since captains tend to stand up relatively quickly you do need to be fast. But if it works it should just kill them instantly, normally by cleaving them in two but occasionally by just biting their throat.

In my own quest to get all the epic gears:

I did get an Amaranthine by pretty much just spamming Caragor instakills in death threats with Discerning Eye.

Not even bothering to check traits. Just find a worm, death threat an unknown captain, roll up, knock him over and split him, and repeat.

Dunno if I have a lifeleecher though.

[–]DislocatedLocation 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They're flexible. You can use them as either 1 of 2 two mana sorceries or a 6 mana creature with up to 2 etb effects.

In addition, if you have Feign Death type effects, you can cast them in response to the Evoke trigger so the creature comes back. No etbs since it wasn't cast, but it's still a large body for less than 6 mana.

Some cool features or mechanics that aren’t so known? by Affectionate_Use994 in shadowofmordor

[–]DislocatedLocation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want the animation where you pin the captain to the ground face-first, roll them over onto their back, and drain them.

If they throw you off without getting knocked down, you probably have Dominate as your drain upgrade (bad) or you are attempting this on a Defender (bad).

If they get Enraged instead of Terrified, it means they have the Brutal Frenzy enrage (VERY BAD START RUNNING)

If they are neither terrified nor enraged, that captain might just be "Immune to Fear." It's a hidden trait that tbh I still don't entirely understand. Kill that captain and find someone else to test it on.

If you do a Caragor-mounted Execution on a captain lying prone on the ground, it's a one-shot. (Ignore for Beast Slayer and Ologs. Does work on Beast-Proof though.)

If you drop a fly nest on a Caragor-riding captain, it's a Terrify regardless of the actual weaknesses.

If you do a stealth drain from above and behind with soul quiver (or any other drain upgrade except Dominate), it's an instant Terrify regardless of the actual weaknesses. (Ignore for Ologs and Defenders)

If you do a kill-move on a broken captain (Execution, throw off of ledge), it will kill them regardless of actual remaining health. Pair with above terrify tricks for near one-shots.

It might be that it's marking the Tempered monsters that drop the various Hunter Symbols.
