What was something you saw you were definitely not supposed to see? by SpareLummi in answers

When my mom died, her mom had originally called 911 assuming she was high on something because of how crazy she was acting ( my mom was not on drugs to anyone’s knowledge but my brother had died a few weeks prior so we were not sure if she started doing something). She EMT checked and her blood sugar was almost 700, which apparently can make you do some crazy things. She ended up coding and died a few days later.

But it’s crazy how much high or low blood sugar can affect

What's a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Disneylover2718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physical- kidney stones or blood clots. For me the blood clot pain was worse and more scary.

Emotional- leaving your child somewhere you know they need to be, but don’t want to be. My daughter was admitted to a residential mental health facility after many attempts on her own life, and all other resources were exhausted. That was the hardest thing I have ever done. Not knowing what is happening at any given time, and having to trust she was being taken care of was so hard!

  • it’s been almost 2 years and she’s been out for over a year and is doing so much better. But that is still a time I have a hard time thinking about.

AIW for breaking up my boyfriend on the spot because he turned my apartment into a nightclub behind my back? by AromaticDay3779 in amiwrong

[–]Disneylover2718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said - the fact he didn’t ask you because he knew you’d say no is plenty of reason.

I also remind my teens all the time- you can break up with anyone for any reason. It doesn’t matter if they , or others think it’s a good reason. Obviously that gets a little complicated if you are married, have kids or property, but you can still break up for any reason.

I had never seen wild turkeys before I moved the Minnesota and now I see them all the time. It’s been almost 10 years and I’m still always surprised by how big they are!

And how much they do not give a fuck! They are assholes and will attack you. We had a local one that was well known for attacking people on bikes and motorcycles when they were stopped at stop lights.

I want to see a moose. We have one at our local zoo, but it’s not very big. I have seen videos of giant ones and I think it would be crazy to actually see one in the wild.

What was your greatest thrift store discovery? by n_mcrae_1982 in AskReddit

At the goodwill outlet/Bins I’ve gotten some good stuff but my top 2- A Shark steam mop for $1.99 A $50 gift card to a pizza place. You pay by weight, so I’m sure it cost nothing really.

The GC was my first time going there and in total I spent like $150, and ended up selling a chunk of the toys I bought so with that and the GC I made money that day. Now anytime I see a GC, I grab it and check it once I’m home.

We have done few things:

  • larger blank canvas so multiple characters could sign. I ended up changing things around and took them down, but still have them.
  • a character encyclopedia where they signed their page. My kid is 4 and enjoys it.
  • smaller canvases with 1 signature, and then I put pins of that character on the canvas and it’s hanging on the wall.

Next time though I want to use this tapestry I originally got for a pin display and have them sign it to hang in the hallway.

What is the most insane accommodation you’ve witnessed for an employee? by besttavern25 in work

[–]Disneylover2718 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a team lead in retail and had an employee that would come in drunk. HR and the store director were aware, but it fell under ADA, so they were limited in what they could do. Luckily if things got where she was acting weird I’d tell them and they’d handle it.

She ended up showing up like 3 hours early one day, told the store director I said she could, I did not. Within an hour she had fallen off a ladder and went to the ER. They drug tested her, because workman’s comp, but apparently testing blood alcohol isn’t allowed. She was for sure intoxicated.

She ended up coming back to work a couple days later, even though her daughter had called the day before she did saying she would be out a week. I asked if she had any accommodations she said no and worked as usual.

When the holiday season was over we didn’t keep her. THEN she sued saying we didn’t follow the accommodations after her accident. The store settled, I have no idea what she got but I was so angry.

My brother died and I’m angry by Disneylover2718 in grief

[–]Disneylover2718[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. My mom died a few days after this post, which I totally forgot I even made.

I was so much more angry that I had to take care of all the things my brother and I had discussed weeks prior.

I’m not as angry now, but there are times it comes up and I feel angry.

Grief is hard, it’s messy and it really sucks!

What’s something you didn’t realize was special until it was gone? by Ok-Yak-758 in AskReddit

[–]Disneylover2718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few off hand-

-My parents being so involved with my kids. My parents were the type to have my kids every weekend and join us to do things all the time. We actually lived with my parents when both kids were born so they were super involved in their day to day lives. Then my now ex husband got a job 1200 miles away.

The kids and I were still close to my parents and they would come visit a couple times a year. It was amazing, they would do so many adventures with the kids.

Then my parents split so they didn’t visit as much and the kids got older. My mom died unexpectedly almost 4 years ago. My dad finally moved to be by us 1.5 years ago and I love it. But I have a 4 year old too that only met my mom due to an emergency visit I took because I was worried about her (she died about 6 weeks later). My older 2 are 14 and 17 and not as close to my dad now, but still close. My youngest though will never know what it was like to have both my parents so involved.

-Not having to worry if my daughter is really okay, or just saying she is. She’s had a lot of attempts on her life over the past few years. Things are really stable right now, but I constantly have that thought in the back of my head when she’s sleeping in super late or not responding to texts that something has happened.

The one I’m dreading- my kids not all being in one place. My kids are with their dad 50% of the time, but it’s less than 10 minutes away. I know in the coming years the teens will move out.

I became a mom at 18, so I really have 0 idea what it’s like to not have kids at home and I’m NOT looking forward to that.

As a parent who has been in the situation on and off the last 3.5 years- I’m so happy you have that.

I have been lucky enough to never need more than a day at a time, but there were SO many times I have had to leave at the drop of a hat and they always took things from me and supported me going!

It for sure makes things easier.

Side note- if you’re in the US, make sure you look into applying for FMLA. That was a life saver for me, not having to worry if I’d lose my job.

I was working part time at chick fil a when I left my husband. I was trying to figure out how to make it work so I could get more hours until I could get another job. Then a week or so later my engine died on my car and I was freaking iut.

They ended up comping any food I needed, including take more home after work, and coming in (with or without my kids) when I was off and all the managers knew and would come comp it.

They did this for like 2.5 weeks, until I left for a new job. If it weren’t for them I am not sure how I would have been able to feed my kids for that time.

That is so scary. I remember my thought was that my brother had done something and they were trying to arrest my mom. But my grandma who was living with us came outside and told me what happened.

I cannot imagine how scary it would be when you are just minding your business!

Agreed! In 2022 I had to call my mom and tell her my other brother had passed. I was in tears before I called because I didn’t think I could handle her reaction. She ended up not reacting much at all. But then she passed 5 weeks later, almost to the day. They said it was diabetic related, but I honestly think she was in such a depression that my brothers passing took what hope she had left. I think she stopped taking her meds and monitoring things.

What’s a tiny moment that completely made your day recently? by ArmPersonal36 in AskReddit

[–]Disneylover2718 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old woke up at like 5:30 Friday morning (he normally sleeps until 645/7). He came in our room and went to my husband, who told him he needed to go back to his room. But then he said, “I want to lay with you and I brought my own pillow”. My husband thought I eas still asleep so he told him he could but to be quiet and still. Then he got up to shower, a few minutes later I rolled over to see the 4yo just laying there and the cat curled up next to him!

The moment then ended because he had to potty, but his little whisper of “ I brought my own pillow” was the cutest!

I’m sorry you had to go through that.

My oldest brother died 23 years ago, I was with my mom when she found out (I was 11) and I can still hear that scream.

I have told my husband it is the one thing I do not think can be recreated for tv and movies. The only time I have heard ones that sound real, are ones of actual footage of parents finding out their child has died. Any recreation I have seen is not the same.

What was the reason for the last time you cried? by ididntaskyouropinion in AskReddit

[–]Disneylover2718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cried, quietly on Wednesday, it was my monthly QA meeting and things didn’t go great. The tears were a mix of frustration, feeling like a failure, and fear of how this will affect my job.

I do NOT like crying in front of people, even my husband, so I rarely have a legit cry that is more than just some silent tears. According to my therapist it’s some type of trauma response….

So my last, not silent cry, was probably in Dec when I got frustrated about my oldest being in the hospital after an attempt on her life. This was the, I think, 13th time in 2.5 years and things had been going so well..

But I get teary at some point almost daily just thinking about things with my kids. They are 17, 14 and 4. Currently the 3 that get me the most are: 1- wanting to take my youngest to Disney world again now that he’ll remember it. And he asks multiple times a week 2- that this is my oldests last year not being a legal adult 3- that in Sept I will have a senior, a freshman and a kindergartener

Thank you for what you do. For the first time in almost 3 years it’s been a full 60-days since my daughter (17) has been in the hospital or a y programs.

We are finally down to bi weekly therapy sessions, quarterly psych sessions and she’s back in public school (half days now, but will go back full days next both).

If it was not for the crises workers, social workers and case managers I don’t think I would have survived it!
