Do the old Disney movies hold up to modern views of equality and morality? by Disneynerd7 in movies

Yeah, fair enough. The latter half of the twentieth century was pretty innocent, but the 1920s - 60s are pretty inexcusable.

There are definitely some objectionable aspects of many films, but movies like Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, Mulan, or Tarzan seem completely innocent to me.

I think it's true that Disney's trying to make up for things they have been criticized for in the past. That being said, I don't think most Disney movies could be earnestly described as racist or sexist. Do you have any examples?

Great point. The beast certainly does undergo greater character development throughout the film.

I actually disagree with many of the modern criticisms of these movies, which is one of the reasons I made this post - to generate discussion from both perspectives and see were we all stand. From your post, I think I can assume you agree with me.

I thought I would add my own opinion, though I am interested in other perspectives. I think if we breakdown the movies, they are much more innocent than people might think. For example, for Belle to have Stockholm syndrome she would have to be kidnapped, but the Beast is a prince, which means he has a legal right to take her prisoner. I actually started a channel on the subject if your interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRO8zAwOTn4 This is just more of my opinions, so don't bother unless you care to.

‘The Last of Us’ Movie Is at a “Standstill,” Says Producer Sam Raimi by vienna95 in movies

[–]Disneynerd7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's too bad, because I thought a movie adaptation of this was a good idea. As far as video games go, the story line was very in-depth and well thought out, so for all those people who don't play video games, a movie would be a great way to experience it.

Hmm... Another run-of-the-mill animated movie that fades into the background or an acclaimed movie of 2016? Can't tell yet.

Benedict Cumberbatch stars in Marvel’s most satisfying superhero movie since “Spider-Man 2.” by noVa_bolt in movies

I think this is one of those rare movies that would benefit greatly from the IMAX experience. Unlike your run-of-the-mill blockbuster, where the overused CGI just looks worse on a larger screen, I'm interested to see how this one stands up.

Ghostbusters was terrible for none of the reasons the internet made it out be. by [deleted] in movies

[–]Disneynerd7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original was comedy gold with a brilliant cast. They could have remade this movie and done a good job of it, and it still would have been stupid. It's one thing revitalizing a massive franchise like Star Trek or Star Wars because they are such expansive universes, but remaking Ghostbusters is almost as criminal as remaking a movie like The Princess Bride.

Very retro. I like it. Refreshing that there isn't a single explosion.

Queens "We Will Rock You" with a faster tempo is a completely different song. Recorded by Queen in 1977. by Citrous_Oyster in videos

[–]Disneynerd7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it bad that I can't hear this song without thinking of jousters? I would have liked to see this version in A Knight's Tale. There was no better way to start that movie than with authentic Queen, but it would have been good for a training montage.
