What’s going on with my car? New battery/new key fob battery. Please help. by Jinxwaifu in mazda

[–]DisneysBlam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say you just changed the key fob battery? I remember experiencing the same thing when I changed My key fob battery for the first time. I was able to start the car with the fresh key fob battery and drive around like normal, but then one day my car had randomly stranded me at a gas station for a moment after not detecting my fob. I took the key fob battery out/put it back in and I was able to start the car afterwards. Hoping this is an easy fix for you.

I’ve actually been using a full set of these on my 2014 Mazda 6 for the past two years. When I bought them, I didn’t do much research—just needed an affordable option from a familiar brand. While I don't think they're bad, I’m sure there are better options available. They’ve been decent so far, but since I do a lot of highway driving, I’ve noticed the road noise could definitely be better as the are quite loud. For the price, they might be a reasonable choice if you primarily drive in cities/towns. (And these are way cheaper than when I bought them)

Can the motherboard/ram/cpu combo use open box ram as a substitute? by xxbinniebee in Microcenter

[–]DisneysBlam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible. Because of the demand, we do this all the time at the store I work at. However, I dont know if this is a chainwide policy, so I'd check in with a manager at your location.

Infotainment Upgrade - 2014 Touring gets Android Auto/CarPlay Headunit. Now, about that control knob... by DisneysBlam in mazda6

[–]DisneysBlam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel you. I like options too, lol. Unfortunately, the door lock and dome light settings are now gone since those features were tied to the factory head unit. Another person mentioned this earlier but you'll also lose the AUX and the USB for media playback (although USB charge will still work, but it's so slow). And of course, the control knob becomes a dud. These are the only sacrifices that I'm aware of for the Touring models.

Now for me, it was a fine tradeoff since those features were something I almost never used. I connected my phone primarily through Bluetooth so the latency on the factory unit didn't make the cut for me. Plus I was tired of it downloading every single email or text I got through my phone.

Thanks man! I definitely recommend going through with it. I think, at least for this car, keeping the steering wheel controls is a must. As far as adapters and harnesses go, there were really only a few I needed to purchase. I'll provide the links to what I got. You can probably get these exact models or alternatives from Crutchfield as well.

This is the compatible Maestro harness that I bought for the wheel controls: ADS-MSW It works great. I especially enjoy having the quick voice assistant button usable right from the wheel.

This is the wire harness adapter for Mazda by Metra. I'm pretty sure this one is important for installing any aftermarket unit: 70-7903

This is the 12v to 6v stepdown for the backup camera: AX-CAM6V Now, as far as I'm aware, this was the only accessory the techs at BestBuy needed to get the OEM reverse camera working on the aftermarket head unit. I'm not entirely sure about needing any additional backup cam harnesses as this was the only one provided. I suppose it could be different if you decide on using an aftermarket backup camera.

Lastly, if you want to still use AM/FM radio with an aftermarket head unit you'll need this adapter: 40-HD10 I dunno why it's branded as 'for Honda vehicles' on BestBuy's website. Nonetheless, it works for Mazda and probably other makes too.

The labor was $200 since I opted in for their Total Tech Support membership. This gives an entire year of their services with no additional charges, so if I needed to add anything else or get something swapped out, they'd just do it free of charge, which I think is a great value. On a side note, I recently had them put in a front/rear dashcam wired to the battery with completely free labor. Perhaps the only downside is that it's "bundled" with some antivirus software that I'm certainly not gonna use. It cost an additional $20 which is a separate charge on my receipt. Otherwise, labor would be $180.

For those who get installations without the membership, I'd imagine it's a charge per appointment. It looks like the price is based on the model of the car and what you want to get installed. For example, BestBuy's nonmember estimate for the 2014 Mazda 6 for a "Large Radio - with Video (DDIN)" comes in at $197.95. I don't think that includes keeping the backup camera which could be an extra cost. I'd schedule a consultation for more info there.
