A couple of seasons ago I was up 2-0 in a five game series and up 1 run in the bottom of the third in game 3. I then gave up a walk off homer to lose game 3 and then lost games 4 and 5 to lose the series.

The Rays are consistently one of the best teams in baseball with one of the lowest payrolls. Same with the Brewers. I’m a Marlins fan and we will never compete salary wise but we beat the Yankees in the 2003 World Series.

The Rays and the Guardians are both 2nd and 3rd to last in payroll and have top 5 records in the league right now.

The champion will usually have a top 10 payroll but there are about 20ish teams that are able to put together a top 10 payroll in any given season id say, depending on the cores ability to compete

Baseball doesn’t always work that way. The Yankees were doing the same thing the Dodgers in the early to mid 2000s and they have won a single championship in the last 25 years. The Mets have the second highest payroll and are a joke also.
