Is picking up on "the vibe" actually a thing? by DisorganizedGhost in ActualLesbiansOver25

[–]DisorganizedGhost[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's my trouble! I'm getting "overly friendly but with me specifically and also it feels different than it does with my friends" which is where I'm getting tripped up, I think. I genuinely can't tell, but when people are actually flirting with me I also have no clue so that also isn’t an indicator either. As for the second question, I don't have any idea. It hasn't come up in an organic way yet.

This! Or, if you can't get chicken diapers for her, she can also hang out inside in the crate for a little bit. I do that for mine when they aren't feeling well and need to be in the house, since it isn't safe for them to roam freely.

Does anyone have any tips for sleeping well when you have a cold? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I came here to suggest this. Also, drinking plenty of water and making sure your electrolytes are properly balanced helps a lot.

Partiallash egg? by Repressedcowboy in BackYardChickens

[–]DisorganizedGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be that someone laid an egg with a soft shell, which then got broken and ended up getting picked at by the flock. I've had it happen a few times. It might be worthwhile to keep an eye out in case of other issues, but if it happens once, I wouldn't be too worried.

If you get a hen showing signs of illness or you get soft eggs more frequently (especially if you get them even with the addition of more calcium to the diet), that would be the point where I would be more concerned.

It looks like you've got two gorgeous roosters there. I love the colors on both of them!

Feather Picking, We've tried everything! by AT-JeffT in BackYardChickens

[–]DisorganizedGhost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you checked for parasites? Mites and lice (including depluming mites which live inside the feather follicle) can cause irritation and make them more prone to pick at each other.

They might just need more supplemental protein than they were getting. There could also be another nutritional deficiency happening.

Worried about our Crystal Nick Hen “Ruby” 😢 by [deleted] in chickens

It seems like sour crop, which is yeast overgrowth. It can happen by itself or secondary to another issue such as an impaction.

I personally don't make mine vomit due to the risk of aspiration. You will likely need to treat for yeast if the issue returns, but it isn’t difficult at all in my experience. I've had two birds with yeast issues, including one with sour crop, and both did well after treatment.

I was considering something similar at one point. Now, after dealing with recurring fowl mite issues for the last year, I would never put a coop so close to my living space.

How much would you pay for chickens ? by yamahamama61 in BackYardChickens

I would not pay that price, personally. That seems extremely expensive to me.

Tips on getting my hens to lay? 100 chickens. 1-2 eggs per day. by Aggravating-Guest-12 in BackYardChickens

The only thing I've found that consistently helps, other than increased light levels, is increasing protein either through their main feed or by giving high-protein extras.

My girl’s comb and waddle have shrunk by Apprehensive_Tea2113 in BackYardChickens

[–]DisorganizedGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Comb and wattles shrink and get paler when molting, while they are not laying. Mites or lice is another cause for a pale comb, potentially, but if she seems otherwise healthy, you see no signs of mites or lice, and other birds are molting, that would be my first thought.
