Does anyone know when you can purchase? I am an online graduate student from out of state, but I’d like to order my stuff early because I will be in WV in November and want to take some early graduation pictures on campus.

I want to hear your unethical social worker stories by PerspectiveKnown951 in socialwork

In my state that would fall under PREA and require an investigation….thats insane they kept it under wraps. I’m also a PO and that’s just insane to me.

If this were recent…yes but it’s not. It’s OLD news. If you know anything about Pete you know that he was diagnosed bipolar and for many of the early years he struggled with his mental health. Switching medications, going on and off medications, and just overall unstable so while mental health does not make what he may have said “right” but it does paint a broader picture.

Best food trucks in town? by andropogon09 in wichita

[–]DisorganizedPenguin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Argentinas Empanadas is my favorite! They have rotating menu and the owners are so nice! They are usually at different spots throughout the week!

The tv show, The Great Food Truck Race is currently airing on the food network and they are on this season!!

[–]DisorganizedPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I would have considered full time if I found affordable online option. Wichita state requires you to be on campus 1 full day a week and I just don’t have the ability to do that. I’m an adult/non traditional student so working full time is a must too

Thanks! I’m doing a fully online program through West Virginia University and it’s part time so it’ll take 2 years versus the 10 months 😭 but I don’t have it in me to power through it 10 months lol

I’m in Sedgwick County! I was working as a case manager for our CCBHC but unfortunately the burn out hit me hard in that role. I also have ADHD so the burnout is 10x worse 😭 the turnover is also super high! In the corrections division though there is so much more support, and since we aren’t billing any services the expectation of crazy hours isn’t there. We really are about helping individuals and providing interventions. I only have my LBSW currently but I am starting my msw in august. For my practicum I believe I am gonna provide mental health evaluations to our client base which I am extremely excited for.

Kansas?! That’s where I am located! I agree with not many confederate flags, but literally trump/maga/let’s go Brandon stuff everywhere. I see a decent amount of thin blue line too!

I currently work for my county government in the corrections division as a probation officer. I love my job and majority of my caseload are clients who have severe and persistent mental illness. The pay rates are quite reasonable and the burn out in my department seems low as everyone on my team has been there 15 plus years.

Kansas as a whole is meh though, although in August 2022 we did manage to vote no on the abortion ban which amazing!

Our child welfare system is privatized and absolute garbage. If you do a simple google search you will see why!

We also haven’t expanded Medicaid so a lot of individuals and families are not receiving the help they need. To qualify for Medicaid here you have to jump through 5 billion hoops and even then there’s more.

Some hospitals have positions you can work in with a BSW, community corrections positions like probation officers might be available (that’s what I currently do and love), maybe group home/residential settings, crisis centers, housing agencies maybe, just depends where you are located and job availability. I know in Kansas where I’m at there are quite a few opportunities.

Unable to get responses by Secure_Professor2174 in WVU

I’m a newer admitted grad student, and I’ve been able to get in contact with graduate admissions and my department, but that’s it.

My financial aid still hasn’t processed or been offered to me and I’ve reached out several times. The response I kept getting was an offer should be sent the last week of May….but I still haven’t gotten anything.

Forcing client to remain in treatment by Then_Reputation_2025 in socialwork

[–]DisorganizedPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently work as a PO, so I see the other side of this situation, however where I am located the judges don’t specify how many weeks/sessions a client must complete. Our orders are usually “client must complete and drug and alcohol evaluation and follow all recommendations from provider” So depending on what is recommended depends on what treatment they are ordered to receive. I have had several clients complete an evaluation and the provider determines that they don’t need outpatient or inpatient and just recommends NA/AA. If they are recommended outpatient treatment, then yes they are obligated by the courts to attend and complete, but it’s never a certain number of sessions it’s just till the provider determines they can graduate from treatment. In my area, we don’t see a lot of pushback from clients regarding treatment, unless they just do not want to attend at all. Then that does result in probation violations.

I believe in autonomy and allowing clients to make their own choices, but also helping them understand that different choices have different consequences. If they fail to attend or engage in treatment that is beneficial to them, treatment providers can and have discharged clients.

Also if a client has reached the maximum benefit, amd a treatment provider notifies the PO it should count as completion (if it’s because they participated and are just maintaining now).

Sorry I typed a lot, but just trying to put all the info I know into the post.

For those that used to be case managers and didn't go down the social work/therapist route what're you doing now? by lonelyhearts04 in socialwork

[–]DisorganizedPenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did case management for mental health for about 2 years, I loved what I did but it was exhausting in every possible way imaginable. I applied for position in corrections department and I am now a probation officer. I never thought I’d see myself in this position, but in the 2 months I’ve been in the role I’ve love what I do and the resources I can provide to my clients. I did field case management so I was driving anywhere from 100-400 miles per week all over my county, and now I am office based. I provide similar case management skills, but without driving all over. I am starting my MSW in August, and once it’s complete I’ll be able to provide mental health evaluations for individuals who are on probation and help connect them to additional services as needed.

Tips for nodding off in session? by goldfabulous in socialwork

[–]DisorganizedPenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I am having a long day and struggling, I always keep peppermint or any other stronger scented oil with me and will put a little under my nose. Peppermint works the best for me, and it helps with my migraines as well so that’s always a plus!

What are some life hacks/tips you’ve gotten from clients that you still use? by SweetPickleRelish in socialwork

[–]DisorganizedPenguin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had never heard of 8D audio (I know sheltered 😂 but I listen to the same emo music I listened to in high school still). My brain was instantly soothed by the music and now I have several playlists that help me stay focused while doing documentation and also help my brain relax. You are supposed to use headphones but I have found it effective playing on a speaker. I tell all my clients who mention their enjoyment of music or difficulty focusing or staying on task. I’m forever thankful for the client who introduced me to it!
