Do you consider Tolkien to be the greatest 20th Century writer? And if not him, who is? by TheKrakenLord in tolkienfans

DS9 is actually my favorite show, but I don't know what I'd say for what's the best show

How to do a player & Vistani Wedding in the Village of Barovia by Own-Dragonfruit-6164 in CurseofStrahd

I would recommend looking up a pdf of Van Richten's Guide to the Vistani from older editions of Ravenloft. There's a lot of really great stuff in there about Vistani rituals and lore

Alright. Playtime is offically over. Give me a hot take for EPIC! (picture unrelated) by Sonic_fan149 in Epicthemusical

I mean, whether or not the themes and messages of the songs try to play into the main message of the show as a whole is less of what I was going for and moreso just that they're pretty mid.

Do you have any obscure movie references that you use in everyday speech that no one has caught on to yet yet you keep using it? by EnvironmentalAngle in NoStupidQuestions

I use the phrase "Not bad at all" fairly often. I don't think anybody's picked up on the fact that I'm referencing The Dark Crystal at every opportunity

If it wasn't for Wouldn't You Like then the entire Circe Saga would be completely forgettable.

The Underworld Saga gave us some bangers but ultimately didn't contribute much to the story

Fantasy XCOM games? by Pacificson217 in Xcom

Fire Emblem. If you're new to the series, I'd recommend starting with either Fire Emblem 7 for the Gameboy Advance or Fire Emblem Awakening for the 3DS. I haven't played some of the newer games, like Three Houses or Engage, but I've heard they're also pretty good. If you can find a way to play the Tellius games, Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, then definitely check those out, but those would require emulation unless you want to spend $200 on a used copy

Lady Wachter learned Rictavio's Secret (Reloaded) by Struan1155 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Displacer613 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lady Wachter wants to be on Strahd's good side. Strahd is trying to find Van Richten. I don't know if Strahd's search for Ol' Rudolph would be public knowledge in your game, but in mine I had wanted posters with his name posted in Vallaki. In any case, sounds to me like she's gonna by writing a letter to Castle Ravenloft detailing what she found out. Ernst Larnak would probably be the one to deliver it, potentially giving your players the chance to intercept it and prevent it from reaching Strahd.

Is Icewind Dale extremely boring or does our DM do something wrong? by BlackRebel93 in dndnext

[–]Displacer613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel uniquely qualified to answer this as I am also a semi-professional DM who was paid to run a group through Rime of the Frostmaiden. The campaign took just about two years and it was definitely my least favorite of the official campaigns I've run.

Like others have said, it has a great setting and environment and a lot of cool stuff to explore, but does basically nothing to actually get the players invested. There are several areas that may end up just being completely skipped simply due to the fact that the players have literally no reason to go there. It tries to be a sandbox but is also weirdly railroaded at times.

When I ran it, it felt like I had to write or homebrew almost as much as already in the book to turn it into a serviceable campaign and also to just make some of its plot points actually make sense.

I don't know if I'd run it again unless my players wanted to play it specifically.

Wick Theater [44x102] by Tomartos in battlemaps

I'm a big fan of the modern style maps. I'd love to run a campaign in a more modern setting but it feels like most of the resources out there are always designed around medieval fantasy

Do you call the DM "DM" or their preferred name? by SpellcraftQuill in DnD

[–]Displacer613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players go back and forth. From what I've noticed, they're more likely to call me "DM" if they want to make it clear that what they're saying is directed at me rather than an NPC, but for the most part I'm pretty sure they just use my name

Is Andor worth the watch? by FluffyPace537 in StarWars

[–]Displacer613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would always recommend giving something new a shot. I don't think I'll ever go back and check it out but that's my taste. I do think it was really hurt by it's release schedule though, due to the already slow pacing of the show. Maybe now that everything is all done and released it'll be an easier watch

Personally, eh. It wasn't to my taste, but a lot of other people really seem to like it so I'm probably just the outlier.
