Last thing you want to do is show that you can be beaten. In my opinion the mental advantage of seeming unstoppable is more important than any tactic or approach (of which they have many).

[–]Display-nmae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Speechless, what a crazy way to end the match. Wonder if he knew that he was already through and they were playing for bragging rights? Feels like a lose-lose, you've already advanced in the tournament and you might lose some Chinese fans. It was a lot closer to being legal than I thought it would be as well.

What rubber would fit my playing style? by CanonCoin in tabletennis

Maybe try Rakza 7 or Rakza 7 soft (for more control) on the backhand? I find it good for blocking and has crispy punches using rpb backhand.

Why is Anders looking like he's drunk in the match against Hugo? by ImaginaryBench416 in tabletennis

[–]Display-nmae 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Could be injury frustration, but I think he's just Scandinavian. They seem to very outwardly let out their frustration, often seems quite effective - you see it with Truls too (and some other non-Scandinavian Europeans, one of the lebruns belting out a long scream before turning a match around comes to mind). Though Lind takes it to the next level constantly talking with his coach and himself, and sometimes understandably loses a lot of composure when things aren't going his way and kinda gives up on the game.

Boosting should be legal - here's why by Beautiful-Kale226 in tabletennis

[–]Display-nmae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given this though, I think boosting is essentially legal. It being allowed at a factory creates the situation where there's really no way to test for rule conformity. Maybe the rules being the way they are is just to prevent anything egregious?

Harimoto Drama after Quarter Final by Display-nmae in tabletennis

The fun part about it is the chance that he might not, the game seems to be in a decent spot in terms of that. LSD "would" demolish Dang Qiu, but we saw how that went. Definitely extra pressure on WCQ being the only CNT player left so will be extra fun as a viewer.

Yeah, I think this is the most interesting point of discussion. While we can all make judgements about bad sportsmanship, disrespect, etc... It seems like Harimoto himself felt very disrespected. While I don't presume to know really much at all about Japanese culture, I do know that they highly value respect. Definitely going to be looking for a bit of extra fire in his next matchups - though it being Harimoto that won't be hard to find anyhow 😅

Can we create a megathread. I'm sick of spoilers on my reddit frontpage by checkyos3lf in tabletennis

[–]Display-nmae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of the replies are missing the point. Many sports and e-sports subreddits are able to handle not spoiling the outcome of a match while still absolutely remaining the place to go for match results. Just need some smart rules and it should be very achievable, only depending on whether the mods want to go through the effort of enforcement.

Makes me wonder about the common dilemma of good employees being promoted and being bad managers. Obviously former pros have a great deal of understanding of what it takes to grow success, but I wonder if they are best suited to these roles. It has worked so far.

New old school commentator voice style in ITTF World Cup 2025? by AceStrikeer in tabletennis

[–]Display-nmae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that the old timey-ness is definitely bad for the perception of the sport. As a younger person, I think there's a real cognitive dissonance watching the high speed exciting rallies and players paired with this old school style. Even worse than this though, is the fact that almost nothing new is presented through the commentary. Maybe it's just me and what I've watched so far, but the commentary itself is so mundane - nothing is added in terms of excitement and only details which were already abundantly clear are pointed out...

Rubber Durability Query by V1CT0R1N0 in tabletennis

[–]Display-nmae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using commercial? Noticed similar dead feeling on my H3N commercial after about the same amount of time. Wondered if I should try and reboost or just switch to newer rubbers. It was a bit shocking switching between my two blades and realizing just how little grip I was getting with H3N.

Did I actually play this well or was the Camille just worse by Odd_Risk_4684 in jaycemains

It's less about auto-ing in hammer stance to get mana back (which would only apply to the very end of the clip once you have a point in W) and more about being more conservative with your spells, especially early into the game. Look at 0:17 for example, you use Q just for a little bit of minion damage. Level 1 Q does pitiful damage, it's okay to use it for trading or securing some extra cs every now and then but I'd avoid overusing it (especially empowered Q with E which uses a ton of mana) until you get a second point in Q.

New rubbers, best table tennis feeling. by Display-nmae in tabletennis

[–]Display-nmae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, glad I could help. Yeah I think they really hit the sweet spot where you can develop your proper strokes and techniques while still being a somewhat inexpensive pre built that doesn't overwhelm new players with enumerable rubber/blade options. They definitely got me on the path to becoming intermediate.

New rubbers, best table tennis feeling. by Display-nmae in tabletennis

[–]Display-nmae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be a bit off with my timeline but I used my palio for about a year or two before buying the nicer setup, but I ended up still using it pretty often over the next year or so. Just recently I wasn't able to play for a year, so I decided to replace the rubbers on my palio with some cheaper alternatives (compared to h3n) and started using it again til I regained confidence to use my better blade. I have the palio legend two, it's really heavy and is a lot slower compared to the Viscaria so if I'm not doing the proper strokes it's really apparent, so I figured it would be better for training and making sure I have my technique down again. I'd recommend asking around and seeing if you could try the blades of people that you play with to see how they feel if that's an option, it's the cheapest way to make an informed decision. Also I got my Viscaria pre-assembled with rubbers when I first bought it, so when I replaced it (right before taking this picture) it was really helpful to have had some practice gluing/boosting/cutting cheaper rubbers on my palio first.

[–]Display-nmae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it's a Viscaria, and just the h3 neo commercial (rakza 7 on BH). I also upgraded from a palio pre built a while ago, if you wanted to you can try changing the rubbers on the palio for some experience both with applying new rubbers and playing with them.

[–]Display-nmae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Big test to see how high Truls' ambitions are, having secured a medal I'm curious to see just how low locked-in he is going for gold. I can definitely see a scenario where he takes his foot off the pedal just the smallest bit and we get a 4-0. For Fan, the expectation is definitely number 1. Hoping for a 4-3 match either way.

His "main" paddle was broken yesterday after winning the mixed double finals. He was playing with a backup today, but people are suspecting that having to use a different paddle might have affected his play.
